*Very well-made, stable, comfortable **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love that everything fits in bag. Easy to paddle for single person as well, however might be too heavy to carry by one.*
I love this kayack so much and the man making it is absolutely the type of man i wanna be this is the dream i knew he was never gonna stop upgrading this thing until it was a full on ship the moment i heard "maybe an electric motor. Just cause."
Dude, I've been looking at sailing rigs for kayaks for the past week trying to figure out essentials for building myown. This is, by far, the best and most efficient that I've seen so far. Good job mate! You have any more videos where you go into more detail on some of the configurations?
Now set an Atlantic kayak crossing record! It's been done back in 2010 but not nonstop as far as I know. Fame equals fortune in this world! At any rate this is good stuff! I hope Hobie is looking! 30 years ago I would have tried myself if not for kids, a wife and too many obligations. No regrets!
Bro thank you. I bilt my own 4m- 80cm kayak out of polystyrene and fiberglass something like the wolfyack and made it with a mast insert. Now I just finished the sail rigging and I used this configuration. furling main and gib. I made a leeboard and a rudder extremely similar to the store bought ones, pvc piping chair. I'm planning on mounting t rails so i can attach and remove various things like rod holders, sonar mount, phone mounts etc. Thank you so much for sharing your rig setup.
I'm obsessing over this build. It inspired me to watch instructional sailing videos all day. I didn't see this mentioned, do you know how tall the mast is and the square meters of each sail? If money was no object, I'd recommend an electric turbine mounted on fold-down hydrofoils :)
Dude i jack some metal pipe and plastic pipe from the job yesterday. I work for a plumbing/hvac/fire sprinkle company and have a metal shop and acces to anything i need. I have a field and stream Eagle talon 12 footer and this is a great dyi copy of a very expensive rig. I just made the sail just now from a harbor freight canvas tarp. I cut it down to size and reinforced the edges with contact cement and then sewing it. I want it to roll around the mast with a spring pulling tension.
Ok, so this has inspired me to do something of the similar to my 12ft open top yak. I'm gonna finish what I've got and then I'll post a video to my channel. It's inspired me to make videos now even lol
Nice! I like the way it's rigged on to the sit on top kayak. I'll prob use an aluminum plate instead of wood. It'd be great to simplify it further like the Falcon sails. I'm planning to do a similar design to the Falcon but not drill a hole into the yak the way they do. Well done.
Hi Matt, that is a brilliant setup. I have an electric outboard on mine. Hope you don’t mind me borrowing some of your ideas. I’ve made my own outriggers out of wood & are not hard to make & look great. I would like to send you some pics of some of my ideas if I could. Steve, Kent, England
Cool rig, I just wonder about the backstay being in the way when you're fishing. The Adventure Island rig is appealing because there's no stays at all, but it's a big beast. I also wonder about whether she has too much of a lee helm when reaching because the sails are mostly forward of the centerboard. Puts a lot of pressure on rudder. One of the kits I'm looking at has the mast on a track and leeboards, so you can tune it to balance for your boat. But that one has shrouds and a forestay too.
Very cool setup, but why are you are using two furling lines on the mainsail? You only need one. Same goes for the jib furler.. Use the jib sheets (lines) to unfurl the jib. The main furling line should be pulled when furling (rolling) up the main, not when unfurling the sail. Pull on the main sheet to unfurl the mainsail. The main sheet is that line over your head that connects the mainsail tack (rear corner) to the back of the boat and controls the main.. In this case you would technically be using the main sheet as an outhaul.. The idea is when the sails are set (unfurled) their respective furling lines are stowed, that is wrapped neatly around their drums and out of the way. Too many unnecessary lines can get you into trouble. Especially on a little boat.. On that note, this yak doesn't need two sails, only a main.. But it's still very cool.. Now I want one.
Hello Matt, some really cool design concepts there. I have been working on my own DIY sailing kayak and recently uploaded a video to help others come up with ideas. I'd be interested in your feedback on the design if you had a moment to check it out.
I would pay money for this exact thing which could fold for storage. I live in a sailing community and they could even help me put it together. But looking at this and making it myself is beyond me.
Mad props to Sailing Yak for building an epic Yak!

Man you are awesome. This is definitely the greatest yak mod I've ever seen.

Dunno if that’s safe in such a small boat.
@@SailingFrolic I doubt that it's safe. But it has been done, and in a folding kayak, no less. (Hannes Lindemann, his kayak was a klepper aerious II)

love this boat easy to move, very stable , comfortable after 2 hours of fishing

Simplicity is beautiful.
That’s a wild rig. I eventually hope to try some of this type of thing on my yak

This is brilliant. I’ve wanted to build a sailing yak for years. Never saw ideas that made sense. Are you going to market plans or kits?

That's ingenious mate!!!!
Nice, love it! Could you please explain how you made this ingenious furling mast.
plz do the mast is incredible and I would love to replicate a slightly smaller version for my yak

Where can I get some of those cleats or where can I get some rail mounted ones?
Where can I buy those cleats? Any track mounted ones?
Where Did you get the blocks pulleys and all that?
Please post the schematics on this somewhere! Mostly because I want to rig this up to go fishing out in Oregon 😅
Brilliant!!! 👍
If you make some fiber glass or more solid outriggers they can actually help you go faster
Any updates on this? Did he get a spinnaker rigged?
What about building a deeper keel?
Brilliant!

존경 스럽다 나도 해봐야겠다
What do you edit your videos with
Hey mate - Adobe Premiere Pro 👍🏻
Thanks
Done for 10 years most fun I ever had too old and crippled now
🤦🏻♂️ only just noticed the post was three years old. Anyway how did the Spinnaker go?
holy shit this is incredible... that's it, I'm building a mast for my paddleboard, I'll be in the obituary if anyone needs me

That thing is sick! The outriggers look too small or something
this is so rad!!!
You can have a rudder Mount electric motor

Monkey man strat for the win
Unlimited time and money question... Hydrofoil outriggers :D
Hi Matt Kelley
Sail. From South Africa to UK. 8000 miles. Alantic ocean.
¡¡Maestro!!
Awrsome.
Maybe I'll find a cheap fishing kayak to do this on cause $3k is a bit much for my poverty ass.
Haha same
Dont think thats big enough for my fine figure 😂😂😂
Haha - I will say, it’s pretty buoyant, but I agree, I’m not as agile on it as Nick is!
To much rope mess..
