Really great video Jonas. Regarding the Sahib, I think most vc'ers these days take M45's comparison videos with a healthy pinch of salt given his vested commercial interests so I wouldn't be too concerned on that front. Other reviewers including Captain Phoenix are more in line with your assessment. Good stuff.
I'm interested in getting the Shihab, but to be clear, it wasn't cut from the master tapes, it was sourced from the master tapes. It was transferred to high resolution digital files and mastered digitally. Kevin Gray cut this from digital files. Fred Thomas confirms this. In fact, all of Sam Records' releases are 'cut' from digital files, even though those might have been created from master tapes. Again, Fred Thomas confirms this.
Yes another viewer let me know in the comments. I went to the Hoffman forum and read up after filming. Digital or not, SAM are very good sounding records. But now I know for future videos. Thanks for pointing out. Jonas
It’s all over the Hoffman forum, stated directly from Fred. They are ALL cut from digital. I agree, they sound fantastic but the hype stickers eluding to the fact they are AAA is disappointing.
@@christopher.cordova I have to check that out. Well it’s a shame that the sticker feels misleading but then again, after the MoFi gate, maybe we all are on our toes with transparency. I wonder how many digital records Kevin Grey has his name on the hype sticker… Thanks for letting me know!
Thanks for posting this video and pointing out how good Shihab sounds. Michael45’s video did not do anybody a service and was just unnecessary. What’s the point comparing it to an original that is more or less unobtainable for anyone including himself? Regarding the source, Fred has never claimed that his releases are AAA. But they sound fantastic regardless. I have all of them.
@@andysmusicden thanks for watching. I enjoyed Michels comparison. I do t think it was unnecessary but I agree that most will never be able to compare. But that’s what makes it great. Imagine if SAM was the better one (according to M). I dident get the notion that Michel thought that the SAM sounded bad, just less than the others. At the end of the day I’m so glad we can all share and talk about our experiences with spinning records. Thanks and have a great day.
Michael 45 must have had to pay for the record hence the poor review. Everyone knows he is on the promo gravy train. The Doors ERC just ONE example. There are more. Many many more…….
I do think that he would come out and tell us if he was and with the shop it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day it’s all about trust and I trust that Michel gives me a good review and an honest opinion. I would love to be on a gravy train but I don’t think any one that puts down hours and hours every week does it for free records. You could get a lot more records if you did something else with that time. At the end of the day, the records are going to be very expensive if you break it down per hour. 🤣

I do hope that Michael can give his honest opinion on the records he talk about. I’ll check out Captain Phoenix! Thanks for the tip! 😀
Am certain Ludwig’s review are honest. The tapes aged.
