Little tip Jimmy! 1.) For the door hardware, put an o-ring between the hardware and the plastic door card. 2 days of driving it will instantly start to crack it. 2.) You can use some home depot roofing tape to sound deaden the plastic door cards and remove the plastic sound of it. It will instantly make the car more quiet.
@10:54 dyna matt for car audio. will eliminate that "cheap" feel, make product sound solid when hit or tapped as it eliminates the vibrations and makes panel denser
For the door cards, you could also spray some Bedliner/undercoating behind the plastic so it doesn’t sound hollow or “plastic-y”. Also use some foam tape where it makes contact with the door to prevent rattles
Jimmy you should really do head restrictors and a head oil drain for it. It makes these cars 100% more reliable and removes so many future headaches. Its so cheap to do as well. You just pop a rear frost plug out, tap 2 holes and run it to the oil pan and all your future oiling issues are gone. The Aussie boys say its a must and they know their RB's.
I am so excited for my rivnut tool n serts to get here also ordered a ton of downstar 10mm bolts with black n gold beauty washers im hype af thanks to jimmy i now found the perfect most useful tool ever the rivnut tool
Spray dynamat on the other side of door panels it will help like no other . Also they sell button style screws that you bolt up then they have a cap that you just snap on for the seamless look
Spray the inside of the plastic door card with a light coat of undercoating, then get some oem looking fabric to put in the middle part where it has the fabric on the factory door card, and then flock the rest of the door card, boom looks good, and no more cheap plastic sound and feel
Get some spray glue and felt. Put it on backside of door cards. It makes a million times nicer they just feel and sound so much better 100% trust me buddy luv the progress on this car
If you end up needing the strap for the door make a slot in the panel and put a couple fingers width hanging out but mount it on the inside. That would give you a handle without a floppy ricer strap hangin around

you shold add like a rubber seal around it like the one that are used on edges of door for dings. also maybe using canned bedliner on the back or even the one that is made for "sound deadening" from walmart might work to make it not rattle.
Flocking the door cards would look super dope! And I think if you put some sound system style insulation on the back side, it would help with the feel and any potential rattles. 😁 love the content!
Hey Oakes Try some sound deadening material on the inside of your door cards, (dynamat)... Us sound guys use it to sound proof and reduce vibration and road noise.... Proper stuff will add a few kgs of weight but really good stuff.
Also for the door cards maybe add some light sound detoning (if that’s how you spell it) and some fabric in the outside, you know it’s the little things
Get some oem bmw door pulls and graft them into the door cards and maybe add sound deadening to the back tho. Cool upgrade for the e36 tho! Keep rolling man
Jimmy, I'm down for doing the 33 in stages, but while you have the engine out you should 100% do head drains so you don't kill the motor. Looking forward to the builds future 👍
All you need to do is use some spray glue and wrap the door cards in thin black fabric like a headliner. BOOM! They'll instantly look higher quality and more OEM.
If you don’t like the pull tab like that, open it up so that it’s flat and not flapping. You can even mount it low and out of sight. Just with enough slack to fit your hand behind to grab it. Won’t be flapping around or looking cheap.
You should sticker bomb the door on the part that would be plastic on OE to give it some character but understand if not it's a slick build my guy 😍 and those cards are dope 👌
if you added syno matt to back side of door cards they would no longer sound like echo'ing plastic, it would sound thick and soil when hit as it would absorb vbrations due to dyna matt
Jimmy Jimbo to fix the plastic feeling buy a flock it kit it will make it feel way more oem and I used spray foam in the back to make it not sound hallow but it's jank but worls

Jimmy, you should flock those e36 door cards!
agreed, ive done it on door card inserts when the fabric was peeling. way easier to get good results flocking than doing fabric

Those door cards are rad! I bet a tiny rubber trim, like the kind used for overfenders, would look clean as hell and cut down on vibration.

Cool to see he used these door cards, I've been on the fence about getting them for a while but was never sure how well they fit.
I’ll throw some extra stickers in if you get them ;)
Use some sound deadener inside the door cards, couple strips inside each will take the knocking sound out.
Yo Jimmy, pop the little plastic ring for the lock pins, off the old doorcards. It'll stop them catching on the new door panels when you lock the car
Use the part from the top of the old door card. It will cove that little gap and you can throw some m3 on it to support the door on it

Dynamat the back of the cards and add pinch trim molding to the edges and that should get rid of 70-80% of the hollowness sound of them.
