My life changed too when I started doing this and putting money in stocks. The first few years it as really great, but this year I haven't felt like my portfolio is doing well. I have lost more than $40,000 from my portfolio the past four months, and it's now very worrisome.

The year has been really rough for everybody. But I've been able to cushion the effect though. Have you thought of using an investment advisor? They can make you good money especially during uncertain times like this.

Been beating myself up a bit that I sold my 53 shares of NVDA at $303 each back in May 2023. Now thinking of liquidating a few other investments to rebuy but afraid to do so. I also currently have 500k in savings making me next to nothing.

I bought NVIDIA around September 2022 because my financial advisor recommended it to me. She said the company is selling shovels in a gold rush. It accounted for almost 80% of my market return last year.

In fact, I had no prior experience or understanding when I began investing in 2020, but by the end of 2023, I had made a profit of almost $750k. All I had been doing was going by what my financial advisor had told me. This demonstrates that all you truly need is a professional to assist you; you don't even need to be a great investor or put in a lot of work.

Among those that outperformed AMZN are ODFL, DECK, ISRG. Included in the group of 35 is: ORLY, FIX, CPRT, SAIA, XPO, and URI. Notable is that you have a car parts retailer, an HVAC company, auto auction, equipment rental, and 3 (!) trucking companies. Don't get hung up on tech companies -- there are a lot of moving parts in today's economy.

The companies that are in the best position to compete with Nvidia are AMD and Intel of course. Look at their history of competing with Nvidia in consumer graphics cards. AMD has been competing with Nvidia for years, yet Nvidia maintains roughly 80% market share. Intel has basically failed to gain market share.

"They're not talking about tens of thousands of wafers. They are talking about fabs, [saying] 'We need so many fabs. We need three fabs, five fabs, 10 fabs.' Well, I can hardly believe that one." -- Morris Chang (founder of TSMC) That is a pretty good indicator of demand going into the future as fabs are expensive and they're not likely to want to create over capacity for something that may be short-term.

Intel, along with a group of other companies, is trying to develop an alternative to CUDA called UXL. AMD has pretty much failed thus far. CUDA has been around almost two decades. Four million developers use it. It's taught in colleges, and businesses have invested plenty money into applications that use it. It's also compatible across all Nvidia products. From what I understand, developers like using it. Other companies can develop an alternative, but that does not mean that developers will take to it, that it will produce comparable results, or that Nvidia will sit still and not make further improvements. Other companies have tried to create alternatives to Google, too.

What I see is companies that have 100 billion in cash are customers. Nvidia has end users that are flush with cash that don't have a sure plan to grow. Upgrading their computers to ones that are faster and more efficient is a sure way to get a return on their investment. Then there are companies like Tesla that is likely going to solve FSD and create a new use for super computers. The lower cost of these computers also grows the size of the market. Then there is the government, the military will be upgrading as fast as possible. The rest of the government will upgrade slowly providing a long run cycle. Managing big numbers with competence is more difficult than managing with competence. Nvidia's product is deflationary. It does more for less money. How much a company can benefit depends on what they do. For sure they can save money but some will make money hand over fist.

Say demand for B100, B200, GB200 is tremendously high. Can Nvidia accelerate production (supply) to meet demand? It is wonderful to have a big back log of orders but can they increase production? I think most analysts are in agreement that the demand for their technology is substantial. If Nvidia can substantially increase production and deliveries, this will translate into substantial increases in revenue and profit and then "earnings" which will increase stock performance. Anyone have information on chip production capability at Nvidia? Thanks and good luck to everyone.

Buying Nvidia or any of the techs after a 4 month rally at their peaks is somewhat similar to buying tulips at their peak, but who knew where the tops were back then.
Today we can see parabolic rises on the charts, they never last for long.
If people must buy. only buy with a little for the back of the drawer.
Or wait for the seasonal pullbacks in the wider market.

From the beginning, Nvidia has been about accelerated computing. AI is just one application of that. Some people point out that the hyperscalers are developing their own custom chips, but that's task specific. To compete with Nvidia, their chips would have to be good at a variety of other tasks with equally good software that developers want to use. I don't think they are trying to compete with Nvidia. I think they just want more supply for their own needs, and to reduce cost and dependence on Nvidia. Tesla has been trying that for years, and now Elon is saying that he'll buy every chip he can get from Nvidia. Breaking away is easier said than done. Nvidia has been at this for many years, and Blackwell cost $10B to develop. At what point do they say that it's just not worth it to try and re-invent the wheel? When everybody is trying to win the AI race and Nvidia offers the best product, how much do they want to spend on something that may be sub-par? You also have to consider TCO (Total Cost of Operations). Nvidia likes to make it very hard to compete with them on that.

NVDA has the best shovels and pickaxes. AMZN chose NVDA for Project Ceiba world fastest computer. MSFT and OpenAI are spending $100B at least to build fastest super AI computer. All this is just the past 1-2 days. At least a couple hundreds of billion there. Using anything else is slower and behind & cost on future upgrades (which seems to be yearly now.) Getting SMCI servers now allow purchasers to swap between AI GPUs right away which also comes with liquid cooling technology right away. Unless people being penny wise, dollar foolish, I don't see why they won't take all of NVDA chips and servers with NVDA chips now. 1000x faster than others is hard to catch up. You can't buy time.

There are stocks that do well even in a down market. Plenty of pundits said we would have a recession. Three years later it still hasn't happened. The question you should ask is where do you think the stock will be in two years. I'm confident it will be significantly higher. Nvidia is primed to continue to lap the competition for the next year. As countries, (not corporations) start to spend in order not to get left behind, it will benefit Nvidia.
