I had a pair of the 1801Ps installed a few months back. They are absolutely phenomenal units.

Very cool, I have the same 4 channel amp and also the Kenwood XR1000-1, paired with a 2018 Kenwood NAV DNX995s to go to a fill High Res setup, I messed up and went with terrible terrible Infinity component 6.5 speakers running at 2 ohms front and rear (that was totally my fault for cheaping out lol). Over all I love the Kenwood stuff just not as "impressive" as some of the other brands but sounds really nice, the Infinity's let it down by not having any real mid base. In fact, I really went with the Kenwood equipment based on the incredibly in depth reviews that both Fernando and Dean did about all the features of the head unit on their channel. I love what you guys do and you both inspired me to get back into car audio after a 15yr hiatus lol, thank you.

I had some great kappa perfects like 15 years ago hehe

I have a pair of 6.5 Infinity Kappa components in front and they sound great. Rears are old school MTX Thunderpro 6.5 midbass drivers, those 4 are on a Kenwood Excelon XR-4S. Have an XR-1S amp powering a 10" Image Dynamics IDQ10V3 in the trunk.
Maybe your system isn't tuned right or needs some tweaking. My brother has 6.5 reference series and his still sound good.

@@rxtuninginc8444 There is an element of tuning im sure (the rear speakers are just floating in the rear tray in my civic), I had bought Inifnity as I too really like the older Kappa speakers. I didnt do my research enough. The speakers I have are Intinity Kappa 60.11CS 6.5 2 way components. They just fall short though on the low end. Even the ones in the front doors. Also, doing my research AFTER (I guess I got excited when I finally decided to pull the trigger lol) I bought led me to believe I should have bought pretty much any other Infinity speakers and most definitly a 3 way component set. Live and learn lol. But real world they just leave me hanging.

Finally an install using the Kenwood XR Series, I've had mine installed for about 6 months now and I am very happy with there performance. I installed them into an 04 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS, the factory door speakers were 6 3/4 inch so I was ultimately able to go up to the 7 inch driver. Crutchfield say's that only the 6 1/2 inch driver will fit, which it does but only after an adapter is made out of 1/4 inch abs plastic, but that is as far as proper fitment goes on this specific install. Everything seemed great until I tried to put the door panel back on and it would not clip back in around the speaker location, and that was because of the added 1/4 inch adapter along with the already thicker than average speaker basket made it stick out about a 1/4 inch further than the factory speaker did. So after thinking about it, I remembered that car audio manufactures normally measure there speakers from the mounting holes and not the actual speaker size itself so after noticing Kenwood offered a 7 inch version I got the idea of enlarging a photo of the 7 inch driver on my laptop to it's actual size based off of the 6 1/2 inch speaker I had and measured between the screw mounting holes and found that it was exactly the same as my factory door screw mounting holes. The speaker basket fit like a glove the way it should unlike the 6 1/2 and I was able to mount it to the door without the need for any adapter, saving that needed quarter inch to allow the door panel to clip into place. The amount of bass output from these are insane and it's a good thing I sound deadened and ccf the whole door. The tweeters weren't going to fit in the sail panel as they are, so I did what Dean said couldn't be done or wasn't designed to be done and took the grill off very carefully and by utilizing the screw hole on the back attached the tweeter to the metal bracket on my door almost identically to how the stock/factory tweeter was mounted. The sail panel then clipped in over the tweeter just fine with enough clearance. So if anyone that wants to install these into a 2000-2005 Eclipse they can, and to not listen to Crutchfield as they were wrong on both the mid bass and the tweeter fitment, mainly the mid bass as the tweeter as is surely wont fit.

I'd like to see the comparisons from the Bose system to the new XR Hires system.. That little Bose door woofer really caught my attention. How about a before and after test on an RTA to better see the freq response, db levels, etc.?

Lucky for you this is on the powered hardtop. So amp access is pretty straightforward. On a soft top it’s behind the soft top.
I did a kicker key for the fronts and added rear 6.5 in the cubby’s. And added a small sub in my 07.
Curious to see how this install goes.

Love the look of those XR1801's. Can't get them in Australia unless you buy from America, even then I am finding them to be out of stock at most retailers.

I wonder if the 5 channel could have been used so the rear could have been used for a 8" sub, or underseat kenwood subwoofer or 8" kenwood enclosure for future upgrades.

There was no room under the seats. They sit on the floor. The owner is also very tall, so behind the seat was out. It was not that important to him

I've had the Kenwood XR-1800P setup in my VW Atlas for a few years now. I wonder if the tweeter included with the new XR-1801P are improved/different. The woofer is obviously different with its cast frame.

What would you recomment for my 2009 Bose miata with keeping the OEM bose amplifier? Seems the midrange speakers are terrible, but they have to play 700Hz and up, right? The 8" woofers only do 700Hz and lower. Would it be an upgrade to do BLAM LFR80's for mids and Harman/Kardon Flow80 woofers? Another question: could you replicate the adapters that you made for this speaker install?

I have a kenwood excelon dmx 706s with 4 infinity kappa 62IX power by Kenwood XR401-4 channel amp and doesn’t sound as clear I was expected like too much bass over clarity. How should I tune up my amp? Should I use the x’over before tuning the amp or after? I’m all confused 🫤
If anyone will anser my complicated question, I just want to say thank you!

That is not a subwoofer, even the 10" bose speakers in my G37 are not subwoofers. They are midbass drivers. They get low, but not subwoofer low.

Why in the world would you not go focal or Hertz? So many better options over Kenwood for speakers.

Focal and Hertz aren't CERTIFIED hi-res. Sounds like the customer was very adamant that. Regardless of actual SQ.

The xr speakers actually sound excellent. I heard them side by side with mid grade hertz speakers and they blew the hertz away. So what speakers in this price range are better? I honestly haven't heard any

They're good speakers if you can get them for a very very cheap price but the Italians and German made speakers dominate and sound better and obviously they're all made in Europe. Again I have nothing against Kenwood had their products back years ago it's just Helix rainbow audio etc German maestro's all made in Germany with longer warranty they're cheaper models sound better than Kenwood's highest flagship speakers

I get triggered every time I see that OEM Bose mobile audio gear. Stuff is pure rubbish. Amazing that they were able to pass that stuff off as high fidelity. I guess the car manufacturers were happy to go along since it meant money in their pocket. All marketing.
