Just started out with TH-cam guitar lesson videos myself, inspired by you Guthrie, although despite my 40 years band experience I feel kind of unworthy when I watch you! Way to go yet for me, but I'm learning so much as I go along. You make it look so easy - playing guitar and presenting to the camera! You should post this link to the French family show or even repost it on your channel - fabulous example of the Nashville scene! th-cam.com/video/zTMwLUUjJ8M/w-d-xo.html
Not enough people commented on "the Kia G". NICE. The 6/2/5/1 has to be the most fertile ground for mining Country licks and learning theory, not in that order but it sounded better to write it that way. Thanks a million, Guthrie. Huge thumbs up to you!
20 minutes of listening becomes 20 weeks of breakdown to get what your putting across That's what I love about you There's so much information Keep it up Guthrie your the best on TH-cam
The "come back" at 9:24 made me spew Dr Pepper ALL OVER my phone!!! You, Sir, are so ridiculously great and I pretty much smile every time I watch you play. Bravo!

Hold on everybody. GT’s off the rails on this one! But honestly, that’s why I love you man. You’re not afraid to say & play whatever comes into your mind. I thank you for that.
After years of strictly playing with a pick, watching, listening, and learning from you, I realize how bad I suck at finger/chicken pickin. Thanks for taking the time Guthrie!
Actually I appreciate you leaving the mistakes in, usually you make it look so easy that it's kind of nice to get a peek behind the curtain and see that everyone struggles at times. Great stuff man, truly inspiring and soooo musical not just technically brilliant.
THANK YOU for not fixing your mistakes Guthrie. It’s just playing examples and not meant to be perfection. And one has to only check out your live shows or recordings to know how great you really play. Great videos sir.
@@guthrietrappmusic Me too! Check out some of the studio videos of Camille and Stuie back in Australia, she has an incredible voice. If you don't mind being asked, what frets are you running and what is your fretboard wood? It looks dark enough to be ebony.
Good for you! Enjoy it while it last! Things can change pretty quick! Normally every 5 years or so! Love your channel. You finally drilled sense in my playing!
I've been improvising, poorly, for 30 years. Your videos have ignited my playing and passion for playing. I didn't think it was possible at my age! You are #1 for me right now. Thanks!
I love to watch how you deconstruct to construct new tunes. Get up at 5 every morning to play before the day.Its the best time to play with no interruptions for me. You are inspiring!
There are world class players, and there are world class teachers, and if you took a Venn Diagram of the two I bet you could count the number people where they intersect on one hand. Guthrie is one of those individuals who happens to fall in that intersection. Bravo, man keep rockin' this stuff !!!
Dude. You have inspired me greatly. Your videos have been a catalyst for getting motivated as best as this little, small town teacher can. I am writing a book for the students that I typically see which is beginners. It is a basic outline of the basic arpeggios for C, F, G and Dm using the CAGED system. I give the basic arpeggios for each position of CAGED with super.... super... simple melodic examples using the blues scale for each one. I then do a phrase of 5 to 1, 4 to 1, and 2m to 1 with sets of arpeggios for each and melodic examples. I hope to do string sets of 3 going up the guitar for each inversion with... you guessed it... simple melodic ideas for each. I hope to also get to include the extensions and the the pentatonic scales as a way to relate to all this material as well. I know that it will help the students I see. It's a TON of work and YOUR videos are a part of the catalyst that inspired me to get to work. Thank you, Guthrie. I am happy to hear that you are enjoying your life so much. That's great to hear.
Mr GT, you are virtuoso musician, and because you are willing to let us see you working through things, hiccups and all, well, it gives me a great deal of hope that if i keep at it, warts and all, that i can only become a better musician (though i would have to slow these videos down to a tenth of the speed to even begin to understand what you are doing :). The realness you, Uncle Larry and Jedd demonstrate is such a breath of fresh air.
Saw a bunch of your vids from the CD release party - man your tone is so organic and uncluttered that every single pick stroke is really highlighted and forward - great stuff -
By the way, I probably would have never found Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen if it wasn't for you. Big fan of his now. Planning a trip to New Orleans to see him live. Much Appreciated!
Hey @guthrie trapp I love how you keep the little flubs and stuff and don't try to make it too polished - believe it or not, that's something that I think a lot of us resonate with. This is so awesome! Thanks! The great thing about the 'mistakes' (or 'Happy Accidents' as Bob Ross called them) is that as a viewer you can actually 'see' what's going on in your mind, how you build these chords and from that the licks. It reminds me a bit of my old chemistry teacher. He hadn't teached chemistry for more than 20 years, but he knew his stuff. But because it was long ago, you could see his thought process, which really helped understanding the material (at least for me it did...)
Getting to hang with you while you work through it warts and all gives us insight into the creative process as well as demonstrating how to tackle tough passages in a way that 'perfect' videos simply can't. Keep it real.
Try playing while explaining what you’re doing, mentioning the chord and chord shape you’re in. Just changing the meter can totally throw you off so I think we all appreciate Guthrie’s genuineness! When just playing he nails it! Just a joy to witness.
