When a high school that's doing Hairspray doesn't have enough African-American actors (which I don't understand why they'd choose to do Hairspray knowing they don't have the talent for it), there's a version available that centers around rich vs. poor and not black vs. white. This is an example of one of those times
Very for real. The only issue is it doesn't really carry the same amount of weight the traditional Hairspray does, so when high schools do a rich vs poor version it almost always flat lines
i rewatched the video and they didnt do the rich vs. poor in this one. i could tell cuz they kept the script the same way its originally written in this scene. Guess the audience was just supposed to pretend some of them were black. i agree that high schools shouldnt do the show at all if they dont have the proper ethnicities to do it. this is irritating.
