    Congratulations on the new job. You don't have to apologize for taking a break because mental health is important for EVERYONE. You are a lot braver than me because I will never step in front of a camera and post videos of my self for possibly millions to see. Good luck and have a happy 2023.

    One thing that a lot of people don't realize about the archaeology/museum sector is just how hard it is to get into the jobs (and how hard it is to keep them). The pay is brutal, the environment is changing (slowly), but it's still got a lot of issues.
    As someone who said goodbye to archaeology a few years ago and came into the museum sector, this video hits home, especially as a fellow history content creator.
    Glad to hear you're in a better place now!

    Hey Raven,
    Oh my goodness this video resonated with me, it is uncanny how similar our journeys have been, I left archaeology employment for really similar reasons to yours and haven't managed to find my way back yet. So happy you were able to find your way back to heritage employment, you deserve it! You do great stuff on here! Also if you're up for a collab this year let me know!

    I can dig it. Its just burnout. Happens to the best of us. This channel is just begging for that soundbite from the 1979 movie The Warriors. Can You dig it!!! Thanks for the channel. I come here after a long binder of pseudoscience channels to bring me back to reality. Keep pumping out those delicious facts. Good luck.

    When I turned 30 I remember a co worker in his mid 50’s said “you’re in the prime of your life, kid, enjoy it”. Now here’s my mid-50’s self passing it on to you. Also, not sure if you’re keeping up with the alternative history thing but there’s going to be a convention for the alt history crowd complete with Graham, Randall, Uncharted x & an assortment of other TH-camrs. I think they’re calling it “The Cosmic Summit”. I’m calling it “Project Facepalm”. Thought you’d like to know. Welcome back!

    INTERNET HUGS!!!! Oh...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! You have too much experience with toxic breakups, girl. Besides...that's my department. THOUGHT I felt a (VERY GOOD) disturbance in the Force that indicated that my fav wandering Canadian returned home for a bit! Can also relate to your professional plight...archaeology and the entertainment industry are both too often abusive professions that can kill self esteem, self worth, identity (yes, I AM doing this, but I'm REALLY an actor/writer/director/producer) and shave away at mental health. SO HAPPY you took time get healthy and bounce back! HOPEFULLY you have recovered enough to once again sing while you cook = )

    I must admit.. Watching your posts has inspired me.. along with many others to study Archeology...
    I am a student at the university of Leicester doing the MA in Archaeology distance learning and I also volunteer at a commercial Archeology unit...
    I find your experience a bit strange as most students that come our way to volunteer end up with a permanent job!?...

Been with a lot of similar things last year and piling up great interviews...but the toxic relationship is real especially when combined with a thriving channel and yet...No stable carreer ? Why on earth... I am currently applying to many museum offers, can't wait to feel the same joy you have now. Congrats for hanging in there and for the new job girl ! I am so happy for you and you keep the inspiration living for many of us xx

    I would also like to add that everyone that I have met in Archaeology have been absolutely lovely and helpful... I have not come across one rotten apple.
    I have come from a different career that I had to give up because of a heart attack and I am not the sort of person that can just sit around with my feet up.
    I was thinking to myself.. What can I do now?.. I typed Archeology into TH-cam as I have always loved the subject.. and you popped up!..
    I watched your content avidly and went and knocked on the door of my local Archeology unit offering to make the tea etc and it has been a wonderful journey ever since!..
    Being accepted at the University of Leicester has definitely been a high point...
    Thank you for your inspiration Raven..

    Congratulations and welcome back we often need a rest not unlike a computer and as an archaeologist you know it’s never an ending just a new beginning things often happen for a reason and just like the rest of us watching your happiness is important if you are enjoying or having fun with something it shows one in a confident light ….. take some you time more often will help remove mental stress even if it’s watching the moons reflection rippling on the water or listening to nature while sitting by a campfire not knowing where we are headed is common and fearing it will simply drive you crazy study the past dont dwell on it … and treat interviews like a game not a test your the most confident when enjoying things ….. happiness looks good on you have a wonderful day >^..^

    Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us, i was getting worried for you in 2022 to be completely honest and I’m ecstatic that you are doing well again!
    Although after hearing about your experience with a masters im rather nervous for starting university after my gap year because I’m going to have to specialise after doing my BA Humanities as it is a very broad degree and more like a starting point.

    • @pavelandreev4727
      @pavelandreev4727 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, no need to be nervous, I started uni again at thirty nine, so you can always go back in later in your life, in fact I find it much better now than my first time, I am more focused, motivated and eager to learn. Of course education here is free, I don't have to worry about that as maybe you have. Still, if you study something that you are passionate about you will find a way to make it through, and Raven is actually a good inspiration for that.

    • @DigItWithRaven
      @DigItWithRaven  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh no, don't be nervous at all! It's great that you took a break, I did for both of my graduate degrees and it was well needed and you come at it with a different perspective (and more life experience) than those who jumped right into it straight after uni. And being broad always helps you narrow down later (not to mention it lets you discover something that you might never have before!)

    First of all, no apologies are ever needed - life gets crazy sometimes! Second, I want to say that it takes alot of courage and strength, not only to face a new career direction but to also leave the title of archaeologist behind, especially when its a life passion. I've had a similar situation, I just finished my MA in arch and it was a very rough time during the pandemic but now that it's done I've had to change my career path into a new biomed/health care realm. One thing I will say though, is that despite the change in context, archaeology and anthropology principles can be applied to any field so while you might not have "archaeologist" in your job title, you are still doing archaeology. I wish you all the best with this new job and for 2023 💕

    * Hi Raven. Hope you're doing well. I was just wondering if that would be alright if I asked your opinion about "Jabal al Lawz" being the "real" Mt. Sinai, and the pharaoh of the Exodus being "Amenhotep II". I saw a documentary called *Unlocking* *the* *Mystery* *of* *The* *Lost* *Ark* *l* *Parable* *Documentary* with "Simcha Jacobovici". I realize that they refer to him as a "pseudoarchaeologist", but they did a really good job explaining the biblical plagues(all 10 of them) as being the result of the extremely violent eruption of the volcano on Santorini.
    * The only problem is, it would've had to have erupted during Amenhotep II's reign(1425 - 1400 BC). Could it be possible that Santorini actually erupted around that time. Not 1600 BC. I was just wondering what you though about all of that.

    6:40 maybe it makes you feel better, maybe it makes you feel worse, idk. But a lot of people go through this, you're not alone. For me, it's "I wasn't a real editor until I worked on narrative short films" or "I wasn't a real compositor until I was working in real film and tv" and yes others have these opinions too. Or you aren't a real interior designer unless that's your job title, or a real nurse unless you work in a hospital, etc. etc. etc. Don't feel alone or like others can't relate. If studying history casually has taught me anything, its that the human condition/struggle is pretty universal across time and space.

Your verbal skills suggest that you might consider writing about what it is that you love. I am sure that you know or know of Rebecca Wragg Sykes and also her difficult and disappointing journey in the same esoteric world as yours and how she overcame at least some of the confinements and limitations in that world that is especially daunting for women. Sometimes what one has as a dream and what one has as a gift are not the same thing. Be open to possibilities. You are lovely and I hope you understand that. Thank you for sharing and I very much look forward to your next video presentation.

    Glad your back. Glad you're happy. The tears are sad. My partner burned out from her work and has gone on short term disability. She was sad.

    Also, from someone who got their education in museum studies and then also ended up in the tech industry- congrats!

    Yo, it is so good to hear that you have found a place that you love! I was super burnt out on teaching a few years ago and almost gave up on something that I really loved, but I changed schools and I'm having a blast again. It is so hard to carry on with a broken dream until you are able to find it again. I'm so happy for you and your job. The kids I teach in Ancient History love your videos! Have a wonderful 2023!
