- Van Cleef & Arpels once again celebrates celestial orbits by drawing inspiration from the historic tradition of planetariums with the Midnight Planétarium timepiece. This new Poetic Complication™ timepiece provides a miniature representation of the movement of six planets around the sun and their position at any given time. Painstaking attention has been given to selecting the stones, then sculpting the discs and spheres in order to give form to this animated tableau, with its combination of jewelry and watchmaking savoir-faire.

Black Falcon Down same. It's my life dream to be able to afford this watch. I love space. It's so beautiful and this watch isn't like a childish display of space (like a sticker background with stars and planets and hands to show time) but it's thought out, the design and craft of this is magnificent. If this doesn't motivate me to do good in life, I don't know what will.

To all the people saying they would never pay for something like this like it makes them a great person- this is a piece of art designed and made from very expensive materials. You're paying for the materials and the artists who designed this. Sure, we would probably never be able to afford this and it's...really not that exciting to watch planets move more slowly than your hour hand, but it's still reeeeaaaaaaallly cool. Let's appreciate that.
Exactly, they tell us how if they had the money they would feed x amount of people. For one they don't have the money, they aren't feeding anyone, and they just say these things to feel good about themselves. If they had the actual money to buy this, I really doubt they would just give it away. They'd actually be successful, by making really good decisions, not giving away all their money. They'd already be paying more than the rest of us in taxes. If they came across the money through a lottery, how dumb would it be to give it away vs investing it in yourself to make it last a lifetime, like investing it. But I'll let them keep feeling good about themselves by telling us all the good they'd do with money that they don't even have or will ever have. I'm sure those hungry Africans appreciate it.

It's a miniature Antikythera mechanism. Simply, totally, and utterly god damn stunningly impressive! I read the price was $245,000 USD. I would never pay that much for a watch! Ever! Except for this one! It is truly a breathtaking piece of art.

To everyone complaining about the price of this watch, and the fact that it doesn't have all the celestial bodies of the solar system read this.
1. This is an art piece. If you're complaining that you wouldn't spend such a stupid amount of money on 'just a watch' then you obviously don't get the concept of what they've done. Not only does it show a lot more than just a watch it is also very beautiful. The price is as such because this is meant to be something that lasts generations. Something that is handed down a family. If you still think it's too much then don't think about it. It's just a nice watch and nobody is forcing you to buy it.
2. Watchmaking is a skill that requires patience, precision, dexterity, and care, as well as a mind that can understand how each mechanical piece works and remember where every single part of a watch goes when they are repairing or making a watch. It is very difficult to do. So if you're complaining because it doesn't show all the planets or the asteroid belt then why don't you figure out how to make a watch that can do that? Because I bet you can't. Adding more dials would add so much more work, and the watch is already larger than the average just because of how much clockwork is inside it. Think before you say something stupid.

This watch is a piece of art. It is absolutely gorgeous. Though to be honest, even if I was extremely wealthy, I would never put so much money in a watch, I mean, you could buy yourself one or even two gorgeous houses with a quarter of a million dollar! I mean, unless I was a multi-billionaire and still had way too much money even after giving half of my wealth to charity and a good deal of the rest to my family and loved ones, maybe then I'd buy it, as a present to myself for a very special occasion or such. But that's still a maybe... If a 100$ version of such a watch existed though... Oh the dream!

Morgan Jenkins Well of course not in LA or NY, but I live in Belgium and you could definitely buy/build one or two grogeous houses in the country for 250k... I'm not talking huge manors with 15 bedrooms and a tennis court, but a beautiful, big house (5-7 bedrooms?) with a large garden, that's possible.
+Noannelle Sky I'm not so sure you could build more than one of such houses you describe for 250k. Perhaps not even one, if you want 5-7 bedrooms - even in Belgium.
Unless prices for a house are only half the price as in Denmark, as I honestly have no idea.
Zareph I based my guesstimate on what I know my parent's house cost to build in a cheap rural area approx 15 years ago so I'm relatively sure you could buil 1 such house. Granted, not 2. But you could certainly build 2 gorgeous houses since gorgeous doesn't equate big. I'd personally rather like a house that's on the smaller side.
