  • Welcome to Eclipse Tie-dye Company! I'm Joshua Tree, and this is a Shut Up & Dye production. In this tutorial, I'll guide you through the mesmerizing process of creating a vibrant tie-dye tapestry featuring a mandala and geode design. 🌟
    Materials:
Muslin Fabric (3 yards x 3 yards): Muslin is a lightweight, plain weave cotton fabric that's perfect for tie-dye projects. Its smooth texture allows the dye to penetrate evenly, resulting in vivid and intricate designs.
Sinew: A strong, waxed thread used to tie the fabric. Sinew allows for tight binding, creating intricate patterns by preventing dye from penetrating certain areas.
Dharma Trading Co. Dyes: Primary colors and black to mix purple, green, and blue, plus gold and raven black for highlights.
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda: To soak the fabric and help the dye adhere better.
Squeeze Bottles: For precise and controlled application of the dyes.
Blue Dawn Dish Soap: For the initial hot water wash to remove excess dye.
Persil Detergent: For the final wash to clean the fabric thoroughly.
    Steps:
Wash and Dry: Start by washing and drying your muslin fabric to remove any residual chemicals and impurities.
Soak the Fabric: Soak your fabric in a solution of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda for about 30 minutes. This helps to open the fibers, ensuring the dye adheres more effectively.
Tie the Design with Sinew: Using sinew, tie the fabric into a mandala and geode pattern. Sinew allows for tight binding, creating intricate patterns by preventing dye from penetrating certain areas.
Mix the Dyes: Prepare your dyes using Dharma Trading Co. primary colors. I mixed perfect shades of purple, green, and blue for the main flower design, and added gold and raven black for striking highlights.
Apply the Dye: Use squeeze bottles to carefully apply the dyes to your tied fabric. Be creative and ensure even coverage for a stunning blend of colors.
Let it Set: Allow the dye to cure for 24 hours to achieve the most vibrant results.
Rinse and Wash: First, rinse the fabric in hot water using Blue Dawn dish soap to remove excess dye. Then, wash it with Persil detergent to clean the fabric thoroughly.
