Cam can be and should be extended. I dont see a reason why we cant have him for the foresable future. Extend him and lower his yearly cap hit. We do not have to move on from him. Protecting Trevor with someone mean and nasty like Cam is the whole idea. I dont like the idea or narrative that we have to always "move on" from guys b/c of there "current" contract. If the player wants to stay in Jax and is good, we can make magic with those contracts.
Come. On. No way Cam is not on the team. Little has proven he's no right tackle. Cam is the only Jacksonville offensive lineman with any grit in his game. All the rest are softies, not including Morse, whom I don't know much about. And no way the Oregon kid makes it over Cooper Hodges. Jags value versatility and Jones is clearly a guard only. The Jags would be foolish to keep less than 10 offensive lineman after last season's injuries and overall subpar play. Not to mention the lack of depth resulting in Cleveland and Hance playing at tackle. Good Lord. Any decent OL put on the practice squad is a sure-fire goner by being quickly claimed by another NFL team. It's Cam & Walker at LT, Cleveland and Shatley at LG, Morse and Fortner at C, Sherff and Hodges at RG and Harrison and Foster at RT with Shatley and Hodges as the emergency center. If any of those can go, it's Fortner. He's not going to get any stronger or better, imho. Jones is bound for the practice squad. If you get rid of Cam, what message does that send to the team about winning? What message would that send o the franchise QB on the commitment to keep him upright and from getting killed like he did last year? Keeping just 8 or 9 offensive lineman, per usual, would result in less quality depth at the most important position group if the Jaguars are to move beyond 9-8 and watching the Texans in the playoffs.
