To represent that they were higher in society, right? Well in Tonga, it was preformed by women to show that they were in fact low people, going to preform for the higher people. So, we did copy Samoan dances, but not entirely.

Its the Ma'ulu'ulu, was adopted from Samoans when Tongans ruled over Samoa during that period. Respect to Samoa.
