Kindergaten cop, put this place on the map for me, every time i watch that film I find myself in a trance gazing at the background, it seems like such an enchanting place to me, always puts a spell on me every time I when I watch that film, It is my dream to visit this place one day, i am from Yorkshire, England
I feel that I had lived here in my previous life. I've lived in Poland my whole life but relate in some magical way to Astoria as if it was my home always.
Hi, my name is Pablo. As a kid i knew about Astoria from The Goonies and Kidergarten cop movies. In 2016 i was doing a road trip and on my 36th birthday i had the change to visit the town and fell in love with it once again . If there's a place on earth i'd like to grow old, that would be Astoria. Greetings from Argentina.
@@bztravel i'm glad you liked Argentina. So next time we should meet halfway, let's say.... Colombia? Lol. Hope to visit the U.S. again once this covid thing is over. There are few places still in my bucket list. Nice talking to you and thanks for the reply! Saludos! Pablo.
I couldn't imagine not growing up here. I feel lucky to be born in Astoria and raised on Erie Ave. By Tapiola Park since 1981. Mother moved here around 1974 from San Jose, California. Dad born in Astoria in 1953 at Saint Mary's Hospital. My dads parents moved from Pennsylvania to Astoria in the early 40s. Lew and Charlotte Smith. They lived out in Lewis and Clark in the country side. Lew worked for Crown Zellerbach as a diesel mechanic and Charlotte a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital till they retired and moved to Molalla, Oregon and eventually past in the early 2000s.
It is a beautiful little town right on the Columbia river. A wonderful place to grow up. Summer is spectacular to walk the river walk. Many new restaurants have popped up with a lot of nice hotels. It’s worth a visit again.
I love Astoria. We go there to go grocery shopping year round because it’s about an hour away and it’s just an awesome town with lots of good food and fun things to do.
The other museum which should not be missed is Fort Clatsop National Historical Park just a few miles away along the Lewis and Clark River. On the way, at the west end of the Lewis and Clark River Bridge, is a memorial to Conde McCullough, the engineer who built most of Oregon’s many distinguished bridges along the coast and elsewhere.
You didn’t mention (1) the glass blowing place or (2) the mansion that takes tours or (3) the house on the hill that as in the movie Goonies. I don’t even live there but have visited several times when on vacation to the Ore. coast. I love Astoria too
I wish people would forget The Goonies. Astoria is where Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery spent the winter after their historic trek across western North America.

Me and my wife are headed in that direction tomorrow, in Tillamook now. Thank you for this hidden gem of a video!
Might see you on the road! heading down there as well tomorrow!

@@brandonsmith6077 My mom taught swimming lessons for many years at the Tapiola pool and the YMCA. Small world!
I lived there from 2001-2013. I miss the town and the ocean.
