Looked at all the nagamaki blades on their site. All their stuff looks killer. Found out about this brand through your Hira video. Excellent recommendation brother
Great review! I have just two swords from shadow dancer, both have the best quality fit / build quality etc compared to my entire collection. they've definatley raised the bar for production level katana 🙌
The only personal experience I can offer is based on my Legacy Blades honsanmai nagamaki, which hovers right around the same price, but where the Shadow Dancer is more spartan than others I’ve seen, my own is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum (furniture wise). Also I haven’t cut with it yet, so my opinion of a nagamaki is based on aesthetics, ease of handling, and range of motion with the much longer tsuka. I concur that it really should have buffalo horn fittings with a $500 price tag, but that’s my OCD! Great review Matt 👍🏽
This was a fun watch. I’ve often wondered what wielding something with a longer Tsuka would be like. Looks like it wasn’t too difficult for you. During the noto, what were the cause of the pauses? I might have missed that.
Hey Matt. Was watching one of your videos where you were ranking katana production brands and saw you said something like you wouldn't mind trying Ryujin again to get a better opinion of them. I was thinking if you did that you could maybe do a cutting/destruction test of their 5160 Steel Katana Elite. According to them it's a higher grade than their T10 sword and is also differentially hardened which I find interesting since you don't see that too often with 5160 steel. I'm personally curious what you would think of it if you were to get your hands on one.
@Matthew_Jensen The SBG store sells them and they seem to communicate with Ryujin. Not sure if they're just a middle man or if they essentially do all their dealings for them now. I had contacted them because I had a couple of questions about the sword. Particularly if they would be able to send it to my place of residence since their FAQ said that some of the companies their selling for can't ship to Canada (which I found weird since I have gotten swords imported here before just recently and I was willing to pay more for shipping). I also wanted to know if they could make the ito green for my sword and they said they'd contact them for me to find out. Took quite a while for them to reply and only answered the shipping one telling me that for whatever reason their orders would be sent back from Canadian customs (again I don't know why they would for them but not for other companies but it's fine because my dad is in the states and I could just have my orders sent to him for him to send to me anyways if need be). Hope you don't have to much trouble trying to get in touch with them and sorry for the rant lol
Seems more stylish with your one arm forms of cuts like before to go to noto. Perhaps a longer handle on a katana would be worth $700 that style don't seem to create any kind of power in cuts though.
i own the previous version i say that the new koshirae looks better the bright yellow brass fittings that original came from were a bit tacky. i asked for the hishigami with the tsukamaki i say is very good.
Oh wow, was the blade actually 31inches. Your so big and thick, I just couldn't tell..the sword I've been saving up for only has a 28" blade but man I'd rather get this one and save $250 as well in the process.
Matt Easton Posted a Video About the Nagamaki using the same sword earlier today!

Definitely an interesting piece. Who doesn't want a super a size unokobi zukuri I know I do! 👊💀🤘
Nice review I also agree on Shadowdancer being a great option. They seem to pretty consistently put out good swords.
Thank you for your comment, it's greatly appreciated. This is a fantastic video!🥰
Yep that’s why I bought from you
I watch Matt videos all the time
I just bought two more swords and a custom tango from shadow dancer that makes four pieces I’m excited to get them
i’m super sold on this sword it’s right up my alley
Awesome, I was waiting for this review. It was great.
Oooh. That one looks like fun. Almost more like a naginata nioshi (i think thats what theyre called) katana
i want this one heavily
it’s right in between seems like a sweet spot for a bigger blade
Thanks for reviewing this one! Never pulled the thing for the thing.
Just received mine today and I'm very impressed! The quality to price is quite good!

I would be happy to. I reached out to them a while back but never heard back. Where do you buy them now?

Shadow dancer makes really nice swords
2 Matts, 1 sword
Much wow
Cheers!
So on their website they have the Pro series of ito like you said for 30$ more, do you think it would be worth it for the upgrade?
Best $30 you can spend.
@@Matthew_JensenAgreed. I always go for hishigami if it’s available.
I got a Musashi basic ($300) from Shadow Dancer and it’s great. How do you think they stack up against Hanwei?
Nice review btw
Hey Matt have you any info on a sakabato Kantana I just bought one from shadow dancer. I’m not really got any info
Another amazing nagamaki is Shinwa's Colossus "odachi". It's an incredible flesh cutter.
i own the previous version i say that the new koshirae looks better the bright yellow brass fittings that original came from were a bit tacky. i asked for the hishigami with the tsukamaki i say is very good.
Hey Matt, can you tell me what the other sword you're using as a comparison was? that was a big old honker of a blade!
Cold steel nagamaki was the bigger one
ShadowDancer was such a sick game.
Oh wow, was the blade actually 31inches. Your so big and thick, I just couldn't tell..the sword I've been saving up for only has a 28" blade but man I'd rather get this one and save $250 as well in the process.
👍
Why are denchu-kojiri so in lately? Ngl, this sword might be more your size. Lol.
I perfer handachi personally the nagamaki is not portioned right for my liking
Is shadow dancer dragon swords rebrand the ones who blames us sword tubers for there shity work just wondering cause i forgot
Yep. I have not had that experience but a few others have.
@@Matthew_Jensen I know that's why I'm leery about buying from them
You decide where your dollar goes. Good on you for demanding more.
@@Matthew_Jensen thanks brother
Dont like the " history " of this company but that is really good looking piece, very interesting build
