I must say, I'm slightly surprised those molten steel gondolas are allowed out in public rather than just internally. I can't help wondering what might happen if one was involved in an accident 😰
That's a job that takes some nerve 9:00, hanging onto the back of the train as it's pushed along at some speed, particularly in weather that cold 🤒

Awesome, awesome footage! Love all the lakefront and South Chicago stuff. Great work! Makes me want to get out and haunt some of the old places I've worked, but I'll wait for warmer weather

Just found your channel - some great content! I'm modelling the BNSF Chicago Sub in N Scale (name of my channel), so great seeing the traffic on there via your videos. Where is that steel mill located? Looks like an interesting spot to railfan

Sorry for the late response! The steel mill is located in East Chicago, Indiana along the shore of Lake Michigan.

@@tomstarcevich1147 I believe the reverse. Mittal uses no.7 blast furnace at Inland to feed to BOP shops at Riverdale and LTV. Molten iron out to be converted into steel and empties return to Inland. I've worked for the J, the Rail Link, and also changed careers to build scaffold in all these places. I've seen a lot of really cool stuff and been able to piece together alot of information from watching it all happen.

@@mattberg916 i had drilling job and was able to see how different industries work by being around them for days at a timme maybe understand them that is coal powered electric plant refineries, coal mines, pots and pans factories, commercial bakeries, dry cleaners it was really cool how things work in real time not just driving by that coal mine or refinery everday !!!!! kinda of like cowboys you cant see them from the hiway ps forgot rail fuel yards too
