Peak packs are a little heavier, but because they don't use fillers in their meat, they rehydrate with a lot less water and water weighs about 9 pounds per gallon, and that is a consideration if you're packing it in. The shelf life is currently 5 years on the Peak stuff, but many moons ago, Mountain House also had a much shorter shelf life. After their products exceeded their shelf life, they tested them and found that the nutrition and taste was still there, so they raised the shelf life. It went to 20 years, then 25 years, then 30 years and I think they recently went to 35 years. Peak uses the same process on their foods, so the shelf life should be the same, it's just that they are only a 5 year old company and will want to prove their claims as their product gets retested over the upcoming years. You can bet that they have a large stockpile of meals set aside to test 10, 15, 20, etc years down the line, just as Mountain House did an still does. BTW, I found the guy with the red beard most credible in this test. He ate some manly bites of every meal, so I think he must be a real eater! LOL
Peak Refuel only has a 5 year shelf life. Mountain House has 30 years. So if you're storing up for when shtf... Mountain House is the clear winner here.

Thanks for watching, yes you are correct Mountain house has a longer shelf life but for us we buy just enough for what were going to use on a hunt so shelf life isnt much of a concern for us. The tast and enjoyment of the meal is what were going for in this situation.
