I love this. Two guys that see a lot of airports and planes go out of their way through the rain and the challenges of cash economy in Germany to look at an airport (and a few nice planes) where they will depart from shortly after.
From Darwin, you could make it to PNG, Timor Leste, and Indonesia so it’s not an “Australia” issue but a “most of Australian capital cities” limitation.
A couple of years ago I did a trip across Bavaria in a C172 with a German friend. Our direct route for the trip that day would take us near Munich airspace. On the way we asked Langan Info whether we could transit overhead Munich airport. They came back and transferred us to Munich who kindly obliged. We crossed the northern runway, doglegged to the tower to initially orbit the tower before crossing the southern runway over the threshold and then we continued south on our way towards the mountains. Very easy and the photos we got are spectacular. It was back to Langen Info and then onto Zurich info as we flew around Lake Constance. Brilliant day.
1:20 - Timor-Leste, West Papua, Timor (Kupang), South Sulawasi (Makassar), for some examples of non Australian locations you could fly to from Australia.
Yeah, I was thinking the same. But to get to any of those in under 3 hours, you'll need to start a long way north (Darwin or Cairns) and spend many hours positioning the aircraft for the three hour flight. So does it really count?
@@JimOHalloran Checking further ETOPS would prevent such a trip as the aircraft is a single engine only and you need to be at least a twin to go that far from shore..
Yes all good suggestions,. I have actually flown to East Timor from Australia. But as I live in Melbourne it still take a day to get to Darwin before you can even leave the country. I made a video on that here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/ZB4qF1xCbbg/w-d-xo.html
In my defence they do look similar, it was a long day, and I was in a rush to get to our flight. But also, yes, that's a mistake so minus 20 aviation points to me.
Sat in that same seat in Cafe Leon, Victoria station. Visited Biggin Hill for many air shows as a kid. Bromley one of my local stations growing up. Man now i have to go buy that cool bloody watch shown on the way back to Heafrow. 😂 Great video, thank you!
Starting here in Chicago, I can hop in a 172 and in.... (pinching in foreflight...) 3 hours of flying get to another country... So yeah, similar to your situation in Melbourne. That said, we can get in a plane when we feel like it and go fly somewhere on a whim more-or-less.
Isn't there a train station at the Besucherpark at the airport? I mean, it's only a single station to the airport proper, but with that rain (and the urgency) I would have totally taken the train.
I have the Garmin D2 Mach 1 Pro but in full disclosure they sent it to me rather than me buying it myself. I did a review on it here: th-cam.com/video/mTtZG4J0Em4/w-d-xo.html
Your reasoning is exactly why, when I came to Oz, I gave away my PPL. Four hours in a Cherokee and I was still in the same state, never mind country. Boring!
Why not? You would probably need to proves you are currently licensed to fly the particular aircraft, submit a flight plan, length of stay , certificate of currency for insurance, perhaps pre-pay any landing fees and organise any permissions to land at the airport. Whether it be delivering a plane for Maintenance or a plane being delivered to its new owner, Pilots ferry airplanes to their final destination and would have to have all this prepared.

Thanks PilotFlo

is he always happy? He seems like an ideal travel companion. What a trip. I Iove that you caught the observation spot on the way out.

I loved this bonus adventure from you & Philippe - keep them coming!!!
I love your vids man, been watching for a long time (watching from Brunswick, Melbourne)
Thank you, I appreciate that a lot.
This was a great video Stef. It's great to see you up in the air and enjoying yourself 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Gary, I'm really happy to be back doing this stuff again.
No Stef, that‘s not a Ford Trimotor. That‘s a Junkers Ju-52. 😉
In my defence they do look similar, it was a long day, and I was in a rush to get to our flight. But also, yes, that's a mistake so minus 20 aviation points to me.
You and Phillipe make a devilish pair, and I love it! Hahah

I would love to see VH-EYZ on the side of a Vision Jet one day 😊🤪
Melb airport needs to put one of those hills in, when they start on the 3rd runway.
Absolutely, every airport should have one!
Yes, 100% for this suggestion. I believe Western Sydney International are planning something similar like that.
Love the Garmin Watch shot over the Channel.

Relate from Canada. Six and a half time zones 😮
Residents of huge countries high five to you ✋
0:52 That cirrus vision jet looks like the aircraft colours of Qatar Airways, just inverted.
I thought the trimotor aircraft was a JU-52, then you said Ford Trimotor. Now I feel doubt in myself, LOL.
You're right, that was a Junkers Ju-52
Yeah you're right Stephen, I can fly them but I can't always identify them correctly!
Stephan, just for interest, which Garmin watch do you use?

You have two channels? but why
So kind of you to let him sit left seat. 🤣
has brexit made any different to air travel for private flights?
Heaffrow! 😆
Innit
Move to England ------------------------------ No WAY
Thanks for the vid
Thanks for watching as always Dave
Real Londoners most certainly do not say "in it"
haha "innit"
That's it? You can't cross an international border in a private jet in AU? Clickbait title.
Well it’s true 😜
