I didn't realize about the drop keys in CA. They're slowly being modded away in MN/WI too. I have an old friend who used to work for Otis who thinks they're actually superior to the newer spider keys and rotary locks of today. The drop keys actually needed someone who knew what they were doing to get the door open... along the lines of opening a car door with a coat hanger. You won't get in if you don't swing the drop key in the right spot and direction.
What do you in california use to rescue trapped people? My guess is that you try to pry the doors out of the interlock and if you are successful, you open the door.
Something like that. I was actually in a situation where I had to call the fire department to get some trapped people out of an elevator, and, if I properly recall, the fire department used a crow bar.

I think most elevators in California don't actually have any door unlocking key hole. Is this something they do for safety reasons to prevent unauthorized shaft access? How would an elevator technician get in the shaft in cases where the elevator is not running and the access key switch could not be used? Would they have to forcefully open the door and break the interlock? Is there some kind of tool that can fit between a center opening door and unlatch it? (I don't see that working with a side opening door though). Or is there some other way they use? I would think it would make more sense to just have a lock, and have it be individually keyed (so the key would not be readily available).
Elevator technicians may have a better way of doing it than the fire department. In fact, I know elevator technicians don't like when the fire department tries to rescue people from an elevator because they often do it in a forceful way that damages the elevator, or the machine room door if they want to access the machine room.
+upanddownadventures I'm not sure... but I'd swear I've seen key holes in CA. However, I recently learned something about those keys. They don't actually unlock the door. What they do is block access for the drop key. All they key does is remove the lock so the drop key can pass through the door. However, even if you have ANY OTHER KEY, the locks are threaded so all you have to do is put the wrong key in, grab it with a pliers or visegrip, and unscrew the lock.
The express car use to be on its own controller you could say it had its own call button in the lobby I remember when you could only go to the 4 top levels going up and all the levels going down
From what I can tell by the numbering of the service elevators, there must be one more elevator you didn't find
Level B on the public elevators is the same as level K on the service elevators. Apparently there is a freight elevator, but I chose not to bother with looking for it and I was traveling for a conference so my free time was limited, hence why this is filmed at 2 something in the morning.
im guessing Series 1 mod then the COP and buttons were replaced
I was told there getting a controller upgrade to Elevonic R right now there on the original westy controller

I am going to be staying here on August 19th. I will be doing a full hotel tour, with a room Tour and elevator tour included. Have these been modernized to Otis Elevonic yet? Also, about the grand level, what floors is the grand level on, because in the description of my room Type it says something about grand level.
