My first introduction to the concept of foils. You’re right about having subconsciously used this, but not knowing what it was called. Thank you for this video 😊
LYNNN I watched this randomly today and this is so INSIGHTFUL!! ⭐ thinking about foils has given my characters so much more depth and listening to you discuss this makes me so happy !!
ahhh thank you so much for watching the vid!! Foils really were a game changer for me-it helped me figure out more interesting ways to characterize on the page if that makes sense!! Thanks again for the support :)
I was watching this again and OMG i love this video so much! I thought I had commented on this. I love playing around with foils. It's so fun and makes the 'secondary' character to the main character so much more fun and interesting to write!!
I haven't consciously worked with character foils in my stories, tbh; it's been a long time since I've thought about the concept! I'll definitely be checking out those links. I've gotten away with a lot of intuitive character development, but being more conscious of craft and theory will hopefully be helpful when inspiration runs dry. I can think of one really obvious place I could and would like to develop a foil relationship in my novel (one of the main character's father figures and said figure's business rival/saboteur).

thank you so much Kelley!! I also find foils really fun to play around with, there's so many different dynamics that can arise too!
