I loved spellbreak, the graphics were really nice and the gameplay was unique and refreshing. Sad to see that it's closing servers soon.
I just got into the game and one day I was playing with my brother watching over my shoulder and he told me that it was being "canceled "
They had a really DOPE idea for a classic competitive shooter game :
Team combos with elements/ Skill oriented gameplay (specifically with the ice gauntlet) / really good movement options as a 3rd person shooter / really strong PVE potential.
And they decided to make it a battle royale which is the worst game mode for spellbreak.
Why ?

I love it to the reason they are dead is because they didn't update it for like two years and the updates we did get were like super minor

I get why it died though. The general gameplay loop was great, but DARN was it complex to learn. Rip Spellbreak, would abuse flying again
i never even played spellbreak also i love me punch please have my children
I loved it and got really good at it. Me and my friends thought it was gonna be the next big game but with literally no updates and the matches becoming filled with bots because it couldn't find players. The game got stale and super super unsatisfactory when I'm not doing anything but fighting AI. Same reason I quite fortnite at a point
@@Taexer yea, it sucked when fortnite added bots. You would get 10 kills thinking you’re good then instantly get lasered by a try hard builder. It felt like they were trying to make you stay by giving you easy kills
Yeah we could tell from your Spellbreak vid (or at least, I could tell) that you did love Spellbreak Punch. Its cuz of you I started playing it myself. And I miss it.
Honestly, I wouldn’t really call Fall Guys “dead”. It’s definitely not in the spotlight anymore, but I and many people I know still play it. It’s a fun brain-off game, and even if it’s not where it was before, 10,000 players on average is not what I would call dead. The game still has a playerbase.

Only reason is mainly the huge boom it took. The core gameplay is actually quite pathetic but funny colored bagels on multitude so yeah,that’s why.

I’d like to consider dead games as games that you can barely find matches in and that have a very small player base. Fall Guys and Rogue Company are still updates frequently and has tons of players returning every day
I went to play Rouge Company like 6 months and had to wait like 5+ minutes
@@itzhamison1591 How fast you find a game is pretty dependent on the server you play on. I play on the EU servers, and I always find a game within 30 seconds in most modes.
I personally don’t think Rogue Company is dead. It’s just not that popular, and I think that’s mainly because Hi-Rez don’t promote it enough. Rouge Company has a lot of potential imo, the developers just need to make the right decisions. If they don’t, the game will die. I hope not, because I do love the game.

that's meaning is probably the more true meaning. when most players call a game dead, they usually just mean it isn't anywhere near as popular or mainstream as it once was.
surprisingly, paladins isn’t dead and has over 10 thousand players on steam alone. it’s not popular but it certainly has its own fanbase

Tribes dying was also completely Hi-Rez fault. They straight up abandoned it once they saw how much Smite was raking in

I honestly feel that Paladins is here to stay.
Not dead games, but ones that reached their peak at some point and now have a consistent, stable player base. Not every game needs to maintain its peak popularity for all of its lifetime

I love watching videos like these seeing how outdated they became because of the game returning and it's cool to see how a game I joined after its re-spike once went threw a tough journey of almost dying.
I honestly think that spellbreak will be as close to an avatar game as we will ever have at this point

I feel like there’s big lines between a “dead game”, “diehard fan base”, and “super popular games” that you don’t really see

People call Titanfall 2 dead but we literally made the game again because EA/RSPN wouldn’t. So diehard fan base is where it shall sit.
They are all different though, you can't define a dead game... well a dead game if there are players willing to stand up for it, unless the fact is evident that the game hasn't been doing so good in terms of always having something to do, like the original Gears of War, and the 'line' of super popular games... I don't even know what that points out. Like macro said, the games you speak of "Diehard Fanbase" have longevity, and have at least sustained for a 'couple' of years while games like these don't have it.
I feel like spell break would really benefit with a reboot, maybe having a story based setting or maybe a wave fight set up. That could get you into the mechanics of the game so you understand the basics against A.I. and then you can play on a pvp setting after getting the hang of it. But I loved the art style and feel of the game, just Earth always was used and it was just imbalanced with no incentive to change up play style. On numerous occasions I thought of going back to it, with now that not being a case at all, but the one thing that turned me away was that if I was going to play. I couldnt do it casually.

I wouldn't call Fall Guys "dead" more or less dying or less popular. This because you can still get into a match pretty quickly and also updates a still being churned out by the devs
I wouldn't call 99% of "dead games" dead, to be honest, but the internet does love its extremes...

I have over 20 days played on rogue. It was fun back then until it started getting sweaty and then I completely dropped it. I got sad when it died because I have so much on the game

Personally, I think Rogue Company is still doing just fine. Its not too hard to find a match and it still feels pretty good.
Yeah RoCo has a steady player base. I think what's throwing Macro off is the high skill ceiling. He's used to games like Apex and as a result he find rogue too difficult and "clunky" when in actuality combat flows once you master it.

Devs don't support it. They go absolutely silent for months. No battlepass, no new map, no colabs, $20 for a skin and no story update.

I remember being in Rogue Company's closed alpha under NDA and thinking "man, theres potential in here, hope they don't fuck it up" and then it released and I remembered its a hi-rez game. Its still kinda alive but there's certainly a lack of anything to keep me engaged compared to other FPS I play.
I still play it even now but yeah it's pretty dead kind of like Paladins

With Rogue Company, i enjoyed playing it with a few of my friends a lot, but we eventually started playing Warzone and Fortnite a lot and kinda forgot about it. We were pondering what to play one day and we remembered it, and when we went to play it, They had COMPLETELY destroyed everything going for it. Guns has more bloom and the TTK was faster. So now you could only hit shots if your lucky and you died in 2 bullets. Looked it up and turns out they had changed and reverted it multiple times. We havent played since.
I actually like Spellbreak. It was just a new twist on the battle Royale genre. But the last circles were just always so bad to play.

The problem i saw was even the spells some were barely used for good things like rock

The term "dead game" should be reserved for actual dead games like Lawbreakers, Battleborne, and stuff like that. 😅 These games are still alive due to the fact they have there dedicated playerbase albeit a lower playerbase. Although I agree I don't think these games will ever come back into the spotlight, they still deserve new players as some are pretty fun.
@Emily An I understand a lot of people had that issue. I had no server issues. My personal problem with rogue was the constant people who leave matches with no backfill and you're stuck with a 3v4, 2v4... Ruined my rank experience. But the casual modes were still fun enough like battle zone, real enjoyed that one.
BTD Battles is the perfect term for a game still thriving, albeit quick games only have 2k people playing

Problem with Rogue is that the servers are really unstable, and whenever there's a rogue that's too good, they leave them as is instead of nerfing, opposite of R6

Spellbreak will forever be my favorite game that never popped off. I can’t argue, it is hard to get into, and I was lucky that I was there since the early days and was able to grasp things when everyone was learning -even after leaving for a long while and coming back nothing has changed so I didn’t need to learn anything. I wish this game became something and I still enjoy hopping in and playing alone or with friends for a laugh, but there’s a reason I play more fortnite than spellbreak even though I personally like spellbreak more. It’s just a content thing

Legitimately some of the best times I had gaming were on spellbreak :/ such satisfying combat, tons of potential for flashy kills, high skill ceiling allowed for crazy outplays. So sad where it’s at now.
The only reason I stopped playing is because I would search 30+ min without finding a match. Just lack of updates and pushing away the core player base really did it in
My favorite part of that game is the spell interactions. Kinda cool to make your fire pillar green with poison
Plus also it was a very unique idea.
Just something different than your normal battle royale games but sad it didn't hold up.

Honestly I was pretty decent at Spellbreak and I played it a lot (mostly the poison gauntlet) and im thankful for it because it introduced me to the larger battleroyal gameing community but i Don think they minimal player base (and longer Que times becase of that) inadition to the low updates were really what killed at and I whould love for it to come back hopefully after learning from there past mistakes on the title. And if it did come back I'd try it out again.
I really enjoyed Spellbreak but it just took so long to find a match. Even if it's not a 'good' game, if enough people play it and it doesn't take forever to get into a match, I think it'd be more enjoyable. But then again, if it isn't a 'good' game, people wouldn't play it in the first place.

Spellbreak is honestly really interesting, it's one of the most unique BRs out there and creative. I'm suprised they didn't add new gauntlets/combos with each season.. like at least a new element every 6 months, maybe cycle some of them so people are forced to learn more variety.

I personally still play Rogue Company and honestly think people I know didn't give it a fair chance. Like it constantly updates, gives free rewards just for logging in, has cool cosmetics (which adds new voices). Also, it's free.
Okay I’ll give you that it’s incredibly underrated and people (no offense) like macro are kinda I don’t wanna say biased but unfair. Like he said it has a “weird pay to win system”, when games like rainbow six siege or apex legends do legit the exact same thing but when rogue company does it it’s a problem? Which is odd despite people liking those two games a lot. But rogue company is a literal hot unbalanced mess.

At best it’s alright, and I’ve been playing on and off for a few months at a time since the first month of closed beta. It’s gotten better but it’s still got a lot of issues, especially if you play on Switch because Switch players are a joke to Hi-Rez. On Switch you can’t play anything above 4v4 (Overwatch is 6v6 and RoCo can’t do that for some reason), the game crashes repeatedly just trying to run like normal, you can’t rejoin matches anymore so if the game crashes you lose all your exp and challenge progress, and forced crossplay between PC and consoles is garbage (again, especially on Switch).

Honestly i still think Rogue Company holds up pretty well, and I still think it's got a chance. The game it's plenty of qol updates, and has a pretty active community. And it's pretty clear the devs are passionate about the game. I think it can bounce back with enough love and care
Certain guns and to test each out is a pain in the ass lol one of the reasons I didn't play much aprt from the fact that there's too much run and gun in a game where your movement is defined by the characters you play.

@@djsuperqueen1248 well I haven't tried out the range recently or for that matter in a year so I might be outdated it was just the reason I stopped playing, and yea some rouges have some movement abilities right (I think so forgive me if my memory is so bad) I'm talking about them

Spellbreak also suffered from developer ego. They thought of themselves as being too high and mighty for the community and they were not transparent at all with communication
good vid. for spellbreak the devs have been silent for 8 months and ended season 3 early. season 3 was a bust due to the changes in levitation hoping it comes back. they should of added some limited time modes.

I absolutely loved Knockout city when it came out! And I even was skilled enough that I reached max rank in ranked. But the overall lack of new consistent content, and things to grind for is what eventually lead me to take a break, and try other game titles out there.

Hyperscapes was such a good game but it died cause it couldn’t handle the playerbase 😢
I went and played it again the other day and it’s so fun but the problem with it is lobbies have like 7 players
Nah, it died because all weapons were hitscan, letting veterans annihilate noob, not enough variety and the way the “safe zone” worked was very annoying
It was the 1st game that I wanted to commit grinding at got highest rank 1st season. A few months later and i could barely find games anymore. Sad times
I’m sorry but Hyperscape was annoying to play and way too tactical for me. Battle royales give you multiple ways to play, but Hyperscape was more or less forcing you to play it safe all the time, which I just didn’t enjoy

When I played 2042, I had no bugs or annoying issues. Although I could see that even though the game was dying super fast, it was just chaotic overall when playing against so many other people.
Yah same with me! The only issue for me was the specialists but other than that I had almost no bugs or stutters
Same, my only problem was when flying sometimes i would hit invisible walls or pass trough buildings
Block n load was one of my favorite games, but the developers just left the game came back after some years added a new character made it a 4v4 rather than a 5v5 which ruined the game for me and left again
I hope the concept of spellbreak lives on even if the game itself doesn't.
Next time, you gotta cover Roller Champions. I saw NOTHING except that game for about a week, but now, its a ghost town. Its so weird and creepy how the game died so unbelievably fast and abruptly

Dude Rogue company dying was the hardest to accept, I remember playing the beta and having so much fun but after a while it just started to get a bit stale.

I’m not gonna lie, I had such a blast playing rogue company and spellbreak, I thought it was very fun and I liked it a lot. I knew that the games were gonna die sometime but I still loved them. (I don’t play either now)

The reason spell break died, was because after 2 years of being out not a single new piece of game changing meta was added and not a single new gauntlet ( aka the weapons) was made

Fall guys is actually in a pretty good state, lobbies are still filling up nicely and there are a wide variety of stages
i would love to see coverage over "The Darwin Project" one of my favorite games of all time that was killed off due to lack of funding and macoing
Spellbreak was super fun but it suffered from an exploit on PC where the aim assist was tuned to the FPS, so you would uncap your frames and get them as high as possible and then use a controller for an unpunished aimbot.
Imagine a battle royale where the meta strat is to IRL pay to win with a supercomputer for as many frames as possible so everyone has an aimbot and noone gets banned for it

Heavy Metal Machines (PC, Xbox One/Series X, PS4/5) would be a probably fun one to cover. Had a blast with it myself up until a good couple months ago, they stopped adding new content.
