I heard that after covid things about visa extensions changed, what i know is that you can do work in hospitality or construction in remote areas in order to extend your visa for the second year.
Thank you for this video! So helpful 🫶🏼 I have a question: Does working in a national park, eco farms, or the forestry industry count towards the 88 days required to renew the work and holiday visa? I'm studying environmental science, so I'd like to gain sustainable work experience if possible 😊
Great series and a great help, thank you so much. Im eligible for an Irish passport which I'm going to apply for as im a 32yo UK passport holder, and will apply for a WHV in the 2nd half of 2023. I will read your harvest guide now for a headstart :)
Love your videos! Have definitely picked up several good pointers! I am heading to Sydney to start my WHV next week and would like to know if there is retail work in Sydney that does the sign-off for the 88 days. Thanks very much in advance!
Have the best time! Are you joining us on a tour in Sydney? You won't find any jobs in Sydney that can sign you off on 88-days as it has to be in a regional postcode which is far away from the major cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Retail also does not qualify as specified work. Aside from that you will find plenty of work in the retail sector if you're looking for it.
Specifically what areas for the medical industry or advice are you after? If you're a skilled-worker coming over it will depend on whether you can transfer skills/qualifications and be a registered worker in Aus. This can be time consuming but we have a definite worker shortage in this industry too. The working holiday visa could be a good starting option but you could also consider skilled worker visas if you're looking to relocate for your career in the health sector.
Is there ever any potential to get into professional work using the Working Holiday Visa that could lead to permanent residency? I'm a project manager for one of the U.S. biggest solar companies, and have experience managing subcontractor teams and reviewing electrical diagrams for solar systems. I know electrical standards are different in Australia, but I'd love to see about exploring using my project management knowledge to do professional work while abroad.
I'm certain you can seek permanent jobs while you are on this visa, for any project management jobs min two years experience, or upgrade to Australian standards at TAFE! 👍
Hi, thank you for all the information, this series is very helpful! What would you say are the chances of a fresh computer science bachelor finding an IT job, with only a year of part-time experience? Would this be a complete no-go?
Amazing video, thank you! I do have a question, though. Do you have any tips of how get an engineering intern job? What are the bests sites to apply while I'm not at Australia?
Hey there, you can do whatever online work you choose and the Working Holiday visa would still be suitable if you want to stay in Australia for a longer period of time. You don't have to work while you're here on a WH so if you have remote work lined up that's totally fine. However if you with to extend the visa for a 2nd or 3rd year you will definitely have to do the regional work still. Let me know if you have any other specific questions.
Sounds very comprehensive - although I see this is from 2023, so wonder how relevant it is for Feb '24 - as they are always changing things! I have a hard-working nephew coming out for a bit of a reccie - he's 19 - on a backpack tour up the E coast then down with us for couple weeks. Certainly we want to show him the sites of Tassie but how could we show him what it might be like to work out here. He's been on a time-out working retail & doing well, he had been considering animal medicine, but now not sure he wants 7-yrs of Uni. We can show him some work situations - (like a factory & farm) any suggestions for people having relatives coming to stay trying to decide if Aus is for them - how best to help them?!
Which part in Australia is the best to easily find a job as backpackers in your first year of WHV specifically in farming like fruit picker with zero experience? could you recommend a place base in your experience and knowledge while your there. Hope you notice, thank you.
Hi Lee, it tends to be quite difficult to directly transfer overseas qualifications to be recognised as Australia standard quals/certs however you experience in this field will go very far. We have a worker shortage in most industries at the moment and absolutely within your field of work too so I believe your experience alone will be a huge advantage.
Hey there, are you thinking of coming to Australia as a student longer term? If so a student visa might be more ideal however you are allowed to work for up to 4 months on the working holiday yes. If you're studying purely online through your home university and can study from anywhere in the world then the working holiday is still the best option as it offers more flexibility and you're not technically studying in Aus. But being an international student at an Australian school/uni is completely different and will not be possible on the WHV if it's beyond the 4 months. Totally depends on your study situation I guess. It does not make study free if you're on a WH though. Education is not free in Aus unfortunately and we have a type of student loan repayment system. Hope this helps!
Hey Peter, a lot of tourism/transport services are now classified as eligible jobs for 2nd & 3rd year visas. You simply just have to ask the employer whether they can sign you off or not. Overall the industry is crying out for workers and that absolutely includes ship/yacht crew. immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/work-holiday-417/specified-work#:~:text=To%20be%20eligible%20to%20apply,industry%20and%20area%20of%20Australia.
Thank you for the video. It was very informative. I did have a couple of questions: 1) Is Administration work easy to get in WA whilst on a WHV? 2) How easy is it to get sponsored in Australia? Thank you 😊
Hey there, are you talking about Perth in WA or rurally? If it's Perth then it should be fairly easy being a major city. In regards to getting sponsored it can be quite difficult but if you're skilled and right for the job and the company has the capabilities to sponsor then it's definitely possible. Not every company can sponsor as it's costly and requires a lot of paperwork so if this is the ultimate goal I would suggest applying at larger companies.
I think having a specialist qualification you could apply for a normal working visa instead of doing a working holiday visa or even get a visa via sponsor from an employer

Hey, FIFO jobs should absolutely count towards 88 days however it always depends on whether the employer has the capability to do the sign-offs. Not all businesses can automatically do this, they need to go through certain admin measures to set themselves to to be able to sign-off working holiday makers. I would suggest you contact your employer straight away and ask them. With your payslip being from Perth City this might be an issue as the FIFO work needs to be regional in order to count.
