Residual effect means the role of other possible independent variables which were not included in the study on the dependent variable
Yes, value can be negative but it is considered as inadequate fit model.
Normally, It ranges from zero (perfect fit) to one (very poor fit).
The value of a well-fitting model should be < .05.
