Today is Keeshonds, we visited Jean Sharp-Bale who gave us the lowdown on a breed she has taken to win the Crufts group.
I work with little kids at a ground floor location in Williamsburg Brooklyn, but, above us are apartments with balconies. That's how I saw my first Keeshond, on a second floor balcony! I Googled "bear-like dog" to find out what it was! I always tell the kids "that's our neighbor!" when we see him. He's barky when he leaves the building, but I think he's just excited for a walk! He's unintentionally funny, but also grand. Just a lovely and beautiful dog.
I love my Keeshond. I love everything he does and he’s so smart. He acts like a human and expects to be treated like one of my kids. Follows my 2 kids everywhere like a guardian. Loves people and everyone loves him. Cars literally stop in the middle of the road just to ask about him. I mostly get husky mix or spitz mix. I’m shocked they aren’t more popular. Had one as a kid so I always knew about em.
Just got a Keeshond puppy today!!!! So excited and such a sweet puppy. I recommend it!

I just found out about this breed !! 😍 it's like a giant Pomeranian. I must have.
A pomeranian is in the Netherlands a small keeshond, so yes its the bigger version of a pomerian.

They are big enough to not be assholes, I've had them for over twenty years, and currently have 3 and they are bossy and argumentative (spitz type) but they are not jerks
fur everywhere and Very attached to their people (get two).
You should! My Keeshond is fantastic! Although she's not nearly as much of a fluff ball. She has like half the hair as this one.

I'm a big dog person. Have had huge dogs all my love but I LOVEEEEE pomeranians for their adorableness and secure big dog personalities! I came here because I rescued a puppy & we have no idea what he is. He has some mix of Shepherd & spitz (upward, curled tail, some blue marks on the tongue) & the shepherd mask & sable coat. He is hilarious! He's like a cross between a fox & bear. Not quite as Puffy & fluffy as Keeshonden here but very soft. So intelligent, curious & alert. Very bold, not afraid of getting into the mix with my big dogs at all even at 6 weeks old & yes, forget about the kennel. Verrrry affectionate and will rest his head on your shoulder and loves to plop down on your lap and cuddle. Am very much enjoying learning more about the spitz breeds. I guess we'll have to do the DNA test. The whole family is in love. We named him Little Bear! ;)

My Keeshond died few years ago at the age of 18. She was a really great dog.

I lost my 15 year old 2 weeks ago. Wonderful dog,loyal and affectionate,only happy when he was with me. I still have my 6 year old Hannah and she’s always been daddy’s girl. My little shadow.❤️❤️❤️❤️
I adopted my keeshond from humane society. Scout was 1 1/2 yr old and lived to 14 yrs old. Very affectionate not bright. If she left the yard she could not find her way home. Tried to teach her to fetch without success. I did not mind grooming but you will have dog hair everywhere so if you are particularly interested in clean house and car, think again before adopting. Scout was great friends with my cat, JR.

I have two keeshonden and they are both at my feet as I type! They really don't like to be far away from their humans. I fell in love with my first one in the late eighties and have never fallen out ever since. Adorable creatures.
Mine is around here somewhere. Velcro dogs. I've kept them for 30 years and love the breed.
I just read about one that went bald in James Herriot, so I had to look them up. The story is definitely better having seen the glory of the healthy coated animal. Thank you for promoting this delightful breed and encouraging people to view its healthy normal state as it’s most beautiful as well. Long live the Keeshond
We were honored to have our beautiful Keesha in our lives for 16 years. She welcomed both of children, she was just amazing. I love this lady’s advice and info about the breed. Cannot say enough about how wonderful of a fur~baby they are!
I convinced my mom to buy two keeshonds for my brothers and I when I was a young girl. Best breed we ever had (aside from an Irish Setter). Very social and just beautiful. The shedding period is a lot to deal with, but my how we loved those dogs. We would play "puppy tag" when my cousins came over.
One of my very best dogs was a rescued Keeshonden. Sadie was the most loving, loyal, smart & beautiful dog. She was incredible with my children. Wishing I could find another rescue from this breed.
These are really good family dogs. Had one as a kid. They are very athletic surprisingly. Like to be around people. Hate hot weather love the cold. Good watch dogs. Very loving. Very smart. Can be stubborn. But overall are very sweet. We named ours Meeko. He looked like the Raccoon from Pochahantas.
My first dog was a Keeshond named Kyoshi, I miss you bubs. Amazing dog breed, super sweet.

I work at a dog daycare and met one once and was hooked, such a lovely and beautiful boy!
Keeshond and Wolfspitz were two different breed, they look different and have different personality. Their history was diferent then come together, split and come together again. Keeshond is smaller more muscular, have shorter nose but smaller ears, reacher coat on the neck while Wolfspitz is taller, not so much muscular and not so much coat, has longer nose and bigger ears. Wolfspitz can be only grey-shaded, while Keeshond can have cream color or some orange color. For Wolfspitz orange color is defect. I think Wolfspitz have also mask on the face - looks like he is wearing glasses. Keeshond is very very friendly and is unhappy alone, while Wolfspitz is more sharp, more independent and excelent watchman. Keeshond are usually breed in Duch, England and I think in US, too, and are more popular. Wolfspitz are breed Germany and Czech Republic, and it is original (primitive) breed. Now it is just one breed Keeshond/Wolfspitz. Dogs look more and more like Keeshond, except those who breed pure Wolfspitz which are very rare. But nevermind, nature will always return to its origin (one day Keeshond will look like Wolfspitz again) :-)
I use to be breeder of Wolfspitz, they are wonderful dogs :-) Nowdays I have two dogs.

I adore my Keeshond. When I got him, I knew nothing of the breed, so I’m learning as we go along. Wolfspitz is also a breed I’m not familiar with… unfortunately. The histories of these beautiful creatures is fascinating. Seems I have more learning to do, so thank you for your comment. Btw… your English is lovely. I understood every word.
Until 19th century there was only the German breed also in the Netherlands. In Netherlands and Belgium they started breeding longer softer hair but it's not the original breed. Same as old and new German Shepard breed.

I have a 5 month old Keeshond here in LA. He’s so smart it frightens me sometimes! 😅 They are so gorgeous everyone instantly falls in love.

As a certified dog trainer in my opinion No dog likes to be kenneled but it’s always a good idea to crate train puppies from the start. It teaches your dog independence and can prevent separation anxiety and actually puppies go through adolescence between 6-8 months old not 18 months that’s why it’s important to begin training at 8 weeks of age
I have that same dog and he's about 2 years and 8 months and he's wonderful and amazing :)

I miss my Neka, I worked dogs in the Military and loved everyone of them but Neka was the first Keeshond I ever had. If I ever get another dog it will be a Keeshond.

My Keeshond is turning 6 this year and her name is sparkles, but ours is smaller than a regular Keeshond and she has alopecia, arthritis, and a sensitive tummy, but I still love her!
Our kees had a similar issue until we got her off regular dog food. Cook food for her now and she's great.

I LOVE this breed. It's the only breed I ever had. I have #6 & #7 now. They are both ill, and I know I won't have them much longer. I'm getting older, and I need to get a smaller breed now, but I don't know of any that would compare to these beautiful dogs.

Aww...reminds me of my darling Yogi. A full bred Keeshond puppy I found in a pet store in the Sherman Oaks Galleria Mall in Sherman Oaks, California in 1994. He had been bred in Missouri and it always would break my heart every time I thought of that poor sweet lil puppy being shipped out to California like that!! I’ve only owned two doggie wogs in my life. Yogi and Astro. Astro after Yogi. A full bred Pomeranian. Both dogs had wide similarities in attitude and demeanor. But most of all were pure

Very sweet lovely dogs even puppies at 10wks are good with newborns i would recommend this breed for any family with young children they are also very protective guardians very sweet.
We are raising our 5th and 6th Keeshond family members. (Brothers) Good luck wetting them. Seriously good luck. We salvage the brushed out coat and stuff pillows with it. So plush. The most loving breed. I LOVE MY BOYS!

A fantastic breed. Perhaps no greater furry friend. They can be a potato dog. Mine used to love to go for walks. To the car that is. They love hanging out and they show almost a comical depression if they can't go with you. They are great watch dogs. Just let them know who is OK and strangers will be immediately announced. Like most dogs, they do tend to take more than their share of the bed. They are also jealous of other dogs so I would keep only one. One is more than enough as their personalities are happy with endless enthusiasm.

i had one of these as a kid, he wasnt very friendly to me or my brother his only "master" was my dad.
He wasnt aggressive but he couldnt care less about us unless we were the ones taking him for a walk.
My grandma's keeshond(my dogs sister) was way more friendly. but both of them where so fluffy and funny to cuddle with

first dog i every had, tho it was a mut keeshond mixed with german shepard if i remember got her when i was 7 thought she was a Siberian Husky when i was a kid didnt find out what she was till 10yrs later lol, because they said she was a runt, she died when i was 18, tumor. loved that dog

My gorgeous keeshond is deeply depressed. We've tried everything, from getting a new dog, giving him time to play alone time, and a new playpal (another keeshond). He still never walks around, and We're worried, we even went to multiple vets around the state, any suggestions?
Walk twice daily for two months. Dog park weekly or more.

Sigarett mine loved cats, dogs, birds, ferrets and rabbits. so especially cute to see at different homes I was visiting, the cockatil, ferret or rabbit would chase my dog around the house then next everyone would see is my dog turn around and chase them back. it was hilarious! we all got an extra kick when the ferret hid among furniture and would surprise"attack"my dog and then run to entice my dog to chase after it. my keeshond loved every adult, child and animal it was introduced to.

you should try to breed that dog/keeshound with a collie because they are so prety and sweet look them up and you will see. but keeshould is a preety sweet cute and very very loveing i need them now lol
