Santa Monica State Beach is a California State Park operated by the city of Santa Monica.
The beach is located along Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. It is 3.5 miles long and has parks, picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms, as well as manned lifeguard stations, the original Muscle Beach, bike rentals, concessions, a few hotels, a bike path, and wooden pathways for warm days and beachgoers with disabilities. Visitor activities include volleyball, surfing, stand up paddleboarding, and swimming. Smoking at the beach is prohibited.
At the foot of Colorado Avenue, through the famous arch and sign, lies the historic Santa Monica Pier, which dates from 1909. The pier has a National Historic Landmark -- the 1922 Looff Hippodrome Carousel.
A few steps south of the Pier volleyball courts is the International Chess Park. The public chess tables-and a human-scale chessboard set into the sidewalk-draw a wide assortment of players.
Palisades Park is located atop Santa Monica’s famed sandstone cliffs, providing a vantage point to see the sweep of Santa Monica Beach and the Pacific Ocean.
The beach is the one Baywatch was filmed at and also the beach the album art for Umbrella Beach by Owl City features.
The beach will host beach volleyball and surfing during the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The Third Street Promenade is a pedestrian mall esplanade, shopping, dining and entertainment complex in the downtown area of Santa Monica, California which originally opened as the Santa Monica Mall on November 8, 1965. It is considered a premier shopping and dining district on the Westside and draws crowds from all over the Greater Los Angeles area. Due to easy access to Downtown Los Angeles via the Big Blue Bus rapid transit service, E Line's terminus station and the Pacific Coast Highway-Santa Monica Freeway Interstate, the neighborhood's north-south thoroughfares connecting to Muscle Beach, Venice Canal Historic District, Marina del Rey, Ballona Wetlands and Los Angeles International Airport, and its proximity to historic U.S. Route 66, Santa Monica Pier, Palisades Park, Tongva Park, Santa Monica State Beach and the Pacific Ocean coupled with Los Angeles's mild mediterranean climate, it is also a popular tourist destination.

This reminds me of when I was there, in 2013. Maybe the best experience in my entire life. Seeing the places where I put my steps... where I briefly touched my dream of living in the United States... it makes me kind of want to cry.

@@leosink9953 A lot of dreamers do. It's hard to envision a frest start or new life in your own country, and whether because of its image in mainstream media or because we grew up with american films, music and video games, USA is where a lot of us think we will build our future.
Or, used to think. In 2022 it's not a realistic plan anymore, but even though rationally the expectation is gone there is still some emotional residue of dream-dust when you imagine walking down Hollywood boulevard or the Santa Monica Pier, far away from the life you've known

I use to go all the time to Santa Monica when I lived there and today I was really missing the beach and Santa Monica. I was 30 and young when I use to go there and now I’m 65 living in Las Vegas. I would love so much to move to SM and live the rest of my life there because I miss CA, the beautiful beaches that I use to go to all the time. God how I wish I could live in Santa Monica, CA.
