Hi mate please do more of this type of video , if you get time as it is soo confusing when valuing your collection for the next generation... hip stamp, colnet, hipstamp, and others. who do you use for a medium value for world stamps...Some seem way too high, as per your example some sites every thing is 20 cents almost... Cheers Peter from Aussie...

Yes, the hunt for a unicorn stamp. This is marketing and there are not many paying 175.000 $. This price, if someone will pay it, is only when 1 piece exists. If you find three additional, what will happen?
I have my own stamp number (specialized, but it is the same for the stamp you presented) in the German Michel catalogue with Deutsches Reich (German Reich) 342Uu from 1923. It is existing only in one piece cancelled in a not perfect condition (today, but nobody knows if there are more out there and how many). I doubt that anyone will pay me for this 175.000 $. I have a second one, which has no Michel number from Memel yet and this is the only I have seen so far. If I send it for examination and get an attest, I can send it to Michel and they will include it in the catalogue. But I´m too lazy for it.
Worth of stamps is subjective. Many are interested in very old US stamps, some are very rare and there are enough people with a lot of money willing to pay high prices. But the stamps must be wellknown, otherwise it is very difficult even to get 100 - 1000 $. Pricing for stamps is not logical.

Yes the type of Stamps, you were checking, with the Gaugers you have is way to difficult to use,the one and only way is,using your Perf Gauge, checking all four sides,if they are all eleven that's step one, step two have a 581,check it for size,if they match you have a winner, only if the Perfs haven't been interfered with. The prices on line is a joke and is fraud,I don't think anyone would buy them anyhow. The most difficult task, was checking, and sizing 613 all 4 sides being 11, checking my brothers two used ones, became impossible, even throw I have two unused pair, the bottom one being larger,my conclusion being, only cutoffs excess paper, was reprinted and perforated by hand, their was a massive,Stamp paper shortage,US imported it from Europe,US had a huge need for Stamps, heading to Australia,in the Pacific WW2,I live down under,my Stamps were collected here.I am over 70 my collecting days are over.I hope you remember History everything, collecting is an addition and hobby.I pleased your out their, the future is in your hands,do your best to keep History alive.

I cannot over emphasize collecting stamps for fun and learning..... NOT profit. If ya wanna get rich from collectables, thats what beanie babies and Franklin Mint Commemorative plates are for..... ;-) Thanks for another interesting video......

Quick question. If a stamp, is say a perf 14x15, do you always check the top horizontal edge first then the side vertical edge second? Thanks again for another fun fascinating episode 👍

For the life of me, I can never understand how an extra 1/2 mm width in a stamp can be the difference between $0.25 and $130,000. Sure, it's 'rare'. But it is not rare as in they only printed a couple hundred. There are countless examples that look identical unless you pull out a magnification lens. I suppose to each their own. But think of how awesome of a collection you can build with a $130,000 budget.... or you can have one stamp that is 0.5mm wider than someone else's stamp.

I agree... if I had a huge budget, I'd buy a set of mint Colombians and the Trans Mississippi... but to each their own!

Welcome to the world of collecting. Why is Seinfeld's Porsche collection worth more than Leno's? Original and unrestored. Niche always wins at the high end of any collection hobby.

Eh I feel like this stamp takes specialization a bit too far lol. Give me the first Bavarian stamp and also a set of the first set of Deutches Reich stamps instead please haha. If I were to find that stamp theoretically I would probably sell it....

Does remind me of the fairly random seeming spots for color variation for some Bavarian stamps and not others in my book though. Always confusing to me.
