I did a huge huge mistake when I selected the clothes to take with me to Europe recently, thinking it would not be that hot there by September/October, but dear, it really is! Though the items I took were functional I still ended up with nothing to wear. That was an excuse for me to go to the second hand market and buy some functional and comfortable dresses/skirts. So I totally agree with you!

Aww, I hope you found some nice things at the second hand markets! The second summer really sprung on us by surprise, since it was so cold here most of the time 😁 I think most times I try to predict what I will need I am never exactly on point so.. there's that. Thank you for sharing!

Decluttering can lead to some serious suprises the next time you are searching for that one thing you thought you still had. It's important to exercise it with caution and be mindful about our choises. Thank you for sharing your tips!

That's very true.. sometimes you have to live it to understand 😀

It's great to hear this perspective of minimalism 😊
I love having little sentimental things from my great grandmother and grandmother - I love using them, a photo i of them isn't the same!
Also, a few years ago, when I stayed overseas for a couple of months with a 'perfectly curated' capsule wardrobe, I realised the importance of having comfy 'around the house' clothes too! Since then it's an integral part of my wardrobe 😄
I also have a pair of boots that keep going in and out of my donation box because although they aren't 'perfect' or 'spark perfect joy', they are practical, and I have pulled them out to use a few times since what I have in my wardrobe doesn't quite fill that gap... So I haven't let them totally go yet 😆
I'm still on my minimalism journey, but I think we need to be careful not to throw things out just for the sake of throwing them out!

Oh, thanks for sharing!! It's really nice to hear what it's been like for you! I wish I had older things from great grandmothers etc. My great aunt was very sentimental, but my mom isn't and when she was cleaning out her apartment after my aunt died she threw away some precious journals and notes that I would have loved to keep and experience her through. After all, we give life a meaning in our own subjective experience and otherwise things are really pretty pointless. I'm not ready to live a pointless existence 😄 Also your wardrobe story - I feel you so hard! Always take some potato sack clothes for "those days! 😄😄
Your boots are pretty much like my jacket and I think for the practicality of it you are right. If nothing fills the gap - the time is not right yet!
I think the journey is kind of eternal, though it does take different forms over time so enjoying yourself on the way is really important. It's also quite spiritual so you are doing great analyzing what's happening and paying attention. Really nice to hear!

Really great advice all around! I’m glad you mentioned setting aside items rather than decluttering them straight away. I’ve learned this is the best way for me personally to do things to avoid regretting getting rid of something entirely. It’s more sustainable this way too - if I find I need an item, I can just grab it from a box instead of re-purchasing.

You are so right! I recently gave away my headphones and then my own headphones broke a week later. If I had waited, I would have a replacement now... but you never know! So you have to plan for the unexpected. Thank you for sharing!

Excellent advice. No matter how much of a minimalist you are or how much you need or want to declutter to feel good, sentimental items can NEVER be bought again. I have a small memory box but I also have a collection of my childhood soft toys. I don't use them and they sit on some drawers in a spare room but I just can't part with them because I know they cannot be replaced in any sense should I realise I want them back.

Thank you for sharing, Anna! It's funny that you experienced pretty much the exact same thing and as you can see.. you were right. Those plushies are really pulling some heart strings 😅 I miss my bear and it brings me a bit of peace to know that your things are still there, keep them! Some day you might pass them on or you might have to pull them out if there is ever a crisis and you will be so happy they stayed. Memories can truly never be bought again and they are much beyond monetary value. It's nice to know you have kept yours too. Some days I reminisce and just hold different items and it takes me back to whatever happened. It's really fun!

Ohhh, great point about decluttering things out of season! I'll definitely keep in mind to store the item for a while :)
Great video, thank you! I'm somewhat new to the whole minimalism thing, so watching a lot of videos and most advise to just get rid of stuff asap before you can change your mind for whatever reason. Which just didn't feel right. Quire refreshing to hear another perspective, what you say makes a lot of sense to me :)

Hey, welcome to the world of minimalism, you will find unexpected treasures here! I promise you 😄
It took me some 3 years to get to a point where I don't declutter much anymore and because of a few mistakes, I had to go back and repurchase things a few times so far. It's much better to hide clutter away somewhere in this case, even if you do "get rid of it asap before you change your mind", just lower the stakes.
I wish you lots of fun and joy on your minimalism journey! 🤗 Taka care!

I don't have any regrets for things I have de-cluttered. True, I have re-introduced some things later (but not many) as my circumstances have changed. But the initial purge means things have been introduced more intentionally. Regrets I feel prevent us from living in the present moment (which is also why sentimental items aren't very important to me, while respecting those for who they are).
I think, though, this is really good advice for people starting on a minimalism journey.

Wow, I love your attitude! You are so right :) For me it has also stayed really intentional and these days I haven't decluttered anything and missed it in a long time.

Great points in the video! The whole decluttering craze leads us to spur of the moment decisions that we often regret, just to see a huge pile of things going away... Personally I hate getting rid of something and then realizing that I do in fact need it and may have to buy it again...
Most of the times I keep clothes etc. for at least 6 months to a year if I can before getting rid of them.

Hello name-sister! 💕 Your patience has obviously been a great advantage to you, in the beginning I would wait about a week or two tops and then make some harsh decisions, so I'm really glad that didn't happen for you. Now I wait just as you have said and I feel like I am prepared much better. Thank you for sharing!!

The thing about photos is they can be passed around a room and physically held for as long has that person wants, it is not the same has crowding around a p.c, they can be put into a wallet or purse and kept close to you, i removed alot of things and sometimes you can feel as though you are eliminating your life, i never want to get so caught up in possessions but there is nothing wrong with loving and taking pleasure in things, it can go to far that your life can feel empty and you do not know yourself anymore. xxxx

"physical evidence of existence"... That is exactly what I do not want as a minimalist (for myself). Things I use, things I need to live... als fine, but certainly no stuff that is simply "evidence of my existence".

I love that you shared this sentiment! I feel like you should definitely keep what you need and what makes you happy, and if sentimental things like that are not it, all the more space for fun and hobbie. Thank you so much for sharing a different viewpoint!

dont decluter your vital medication, or cofee machine
nice eyebrow and makeup, nice spiky vibe
sad for teddy bear on swinging, but happy with innocent lamb steak in plate :(
    or unfertilised chicken menstruation

Definitely don't declutter medication, though I'm only taking some vitamins 😀 Also, I'm vegan so I'm definitely not happy about lambs or chickens, believe me. In fact, I am a vegan activist in my city 💕 Thank you for the kind words, I hope you are doing well and you have a good week!
