  • Here is the video of the beginning of the PowWow (sponsored by Sitting Bull College) on September 21, 2013. A little background (as best I remember the details; please--if I have misspoken feel free to add to my commentary): There are drum groups all around the room. After the initial processional ended, the drum groups took turns and the participants keep walking/dancing. This part of the pow wow is inter-tribal. There are different dances: grass dance, chicken dance, fancy shawl (spelling?), jingle, and traditional. Eventually the PowWow moves into dance competition. What you will see in this video is the first 10+ minutes. Truly spectacular to see the very young to the elders all participating. And the drum music is so very powerful. Thank you to my Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation friends for inviting me to the event.
