I will be using regenerative practices to get the forage started. It is said that seeds can lay dormant for years (decades, and even centuries) waiting for the right conditions to germinate. Now that sunlight can reach the ground the next step will be to introduce pigs. They will be allowed to root and turn the soil, in a small area, for a week or two. During that time they will also fertilize the area. Then they will be moved to another small area to do the same thing. The first area will be given a long rest and we will see what grows naturally. If I am not satisfied with the result I can seed it myself, later. Hopefully, in a couple of years, everything you see covered in leaves will be covered in native grasses.
When do start the ground cover (grass, clover, …)?
