Between the History of Philosophy at the Beginning and the answer about God knowing he’s not a brain in a vat Gaven absolutely crushed it this episode

Your channel is amazing, I don’t know how it doesn’t have subscribers.

@@SanctusApologetics thanks, and help us out! Share/recommend this episode on social media, in philosophy groups, on your blog (if you have one), and however else. Little efforts like that, when cumulative, make a big difference.

@@SanctusApologetics I feel like it definitely deserves more subscribers and I think what they are doing here is big(I definitely recommend it to friends and share it around). But at the same time I can’t help but love the small channel vibe to it, it’s more intimate and less chaotic than it often is on bigger channels.

I’d love to get Kerr’s views on the latest idealists like Bernardo Kastrup and how it relates to Thomism

That would be fun to discuss. Perhaps we can bug him to join us for another live QnA at some point.

Dr Gavin, unrelated but from what I heard from maynooth seminarians and theology students, the vast majority up there subscribe too critical biblical theories such as anonymous gospels etc...what is your own view on scripture? Thanks you both

We are surrounded by matter and it is available for consideration by anyone. So why privilege the mathematical rather than the primary questions of the one, the many, contingency etc? In truth the nature of matter is an issue for philosophy and language studies more than for the physical sciences.

So, Gaven starts his argument by analogizing from our understanding of human intelligence, i.e. that which it is to have the form of a species without being that species. His next premise is that God has the forms through the mode of intelligence. He finishes by saying God is identical with the intelligible species, in this case, the divine nature. But even granting analogical predication, this is just a flat contradiction. We began by defining human intelligence according to an intellect that is non-identical with the intelligible species.
There's definitely something that has gone wrong here.

There's a reason people don't listen to what philosophers say about the nature of matter. Parmenides, Zeno, Plato, Aristotle, etc., didn't know anything about matter. They could only philosophize about what it MIGHT be like. Ask Einstein what he thinks about matter. He actually studied it.
