Haha made me laugh. I can't say I'm fully plugged into how European/American doctors feel but I would say a tentative yes. I know Portuguese GPs went on strike at the beginning of September and some German doctors recently staged a walkout after the breakdown of talks regarding pay with their managers. In terms of how this is affecting the entire system though, I think the NHS is still objectively in quite a bad place. Funnily enough, I recently had to phone an ambulance in Germany for a patient and they were picked up in literally
Primary care physicians and pediatricians are certainly overworked in the US. However most physicians are not underpaid here, as we are the only developed country without socialized medicine. Here, the cost of health care for the patient is more the problem.
Video idea: Comparing the Scottish NHS vs England NHS Furthermore, how will medical students be allocated hospitals for foundation years now as they are no longer allowed to choose where? Do they get allocated anywhere around the country?
Great idea, thank you. Also yes, the new system for allocating foundation places is an interesting topic. It's not quite as bad as completely random allocation though. Hi Dr Ollie. The 160k UK government invests in each student is quickly taken back by massively underpaying junior doctors in NHS. The investment is probably repatriated within 2 or 3 years.
While you could argue that underpaying doctors does recuperate some of this money, I'd suggest it takes a bit longer than 2/3 years. But the sentiment does stand, which is why some would love to lock junior doctors into the NHS for a minimum length of service.
