Thank you for taking your time to educate those of us trying to make the best decision in purchasing the right prop for our vessels! GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Just finishing a 21’ center console I built from scratch using Spira international plans. Have a brand new 115 Evinrude ETEC to mount up. This video is extremely helpful in choosing props. I’ve been stressing over 3 or 4 blade 14.25 x 19 or 17 pitch. What this tells me is I need both. 3 blade for 2 man fishing days and 4 blade when towing a tube or load carrying. Thanks for the video! Very useful!
The big d tar mud. That's my home base. I grew up in new hope, live in levittown now. Just bought myself a bass boat over the winter. My buddy and i rewired the entire boat, bilge pump, new trolling motor and a 30hp Johnson on the back. This video was def helpful. I dig your channel by the way. Ps our rivers lunker for a smallie is 15" you're lucky you fish the sesquhana
thank you, my dad owns a 1998 Lake&Bay Boca Grande, im 13 btw, and we run a 4 blade that is much better than most 3 blades we have tried, we have a sponcer for yamaha so we get to have our motor tuned when ever they come out with a new one. we have a 250 vmax sho with 350 hp, we can hit fully loaded with gas and people and rods and bait and a few 12ft cast nets around 79 to 82 mps, with full gas and 2 people and a blacked out baitwell we can hit 83, and with a low tank of gass and no water in the well we can hit abt 90+. Like i said this is with the 4 blade prop
I have a 4.3 mercruiser IO. I was running a 23 pitch aluminum but, It was caitating and sounded like it was slipping so I bought a 20 pitch 4 blade. I hope that fixes the problem. It is a 20 foot bow rider chaperral
Four blades 2 for holeshot 2 for top-end Steering backing up improved may not be any faster I use an Turning point 14 /19 towing and a 14/21 touring 21-foot searay 4.3 235hp Cabin cruiser 4,000 lbs dry
Good video. I'm not a sport fisher, I'm actually trying to decide on a prop for my 21ft Checkmate. Appreciate the info here. I'd be very interested to see you make another video , or two. Specifically, I'd like to see you run the Fury 3-blade 24p vs. Fury 3-blade 25p (or 26p). Also, I'd love to see Trophy vs. Tempest vs. Fury, all in the same pitch!
Good video man ver nice explained. Can you show a cruiser video at 4000rpm with this 3 diferente prop?? You know at diferente rpms 3500, 4000 , 4500 more
A spokes person representing a propeller company in a youTube video I watched immediately before yours claimed: "When going from a 3-blade to a four blade, drop a couple pitches". A 2-mph drop in top-end speed @68mph is a 2.94% trade-off I would make any day of the week for a 10% better hole-shot. I would be very interested if you were to test a 25"-3-blade abd a 23"-4-blade on your boat in similar conditions: likey the hole-shot felt and the top-end drop-off would be more pronouncedly felt.
im running a 25 tempest + on a Triton 19 TRX. I have a 225 Pro XS with a torque Master lower unit and I'm getting 71.6 top end. I always have plenty of fuel water in my lap well in the tournament load.
With 4 blade props, ESPECIALLY on a light boat, drop the diameter AND pitch for balls to the wall speed....4 blades are for mid-range cruising economy. Always use Solas props....the HR series is a dual pitch design in one prop
Ive got a 2017 20foot basscat cougar advantage 250 proxs with a 26p fury... get a terrible holeshot with 2 ppl in boat even worse with added water in well can get 73mph at 5500 rpm wot... i juat ordered a fury 4 blade 24p... i hope it helps my hole shot
Very Cool Vid !! On the ocean a 4 blade helps on a heavier load ( fuel, bait tank, people ) and heavier swells but I took my 4 blade off where, it did help getting up and running quicker ( 23 ft custom baja boat ) but when it leveled off on plane, it cost me on fuel, speed, time ....and 2 extra props. Back to the 3 blade...just gonna have to be easier on blast off. Im going fishing, not to the moon.
If you're looking for top speed try the Lightning ET prop and use the jack plate as much as you can. For all-round performance and a combination of holeshot, grip, mid range fuel economy and top speed the 4-blades are nice.
4 blade will always be slower on top end due to drag. That is if you are in the ball park of where you need to be for rpm. If you had a 20p 3 blade and went to a 24 4 blade, the 4 blade would be faster as the 3 blade would be under propped for that boat. But the traction with a 4 blade will always be better. Better holeshot and mid range. The only place the 3 blade wins is max speed.
Basscat Pantera 2 with 25 trophy plus 4 blade I get 69mph, with fury 3 25 pitch I get 71mph...going to try the fury 4 25 pitch as well to see how it does
Merc. Props are some of the best you can buy for the average guy. An over the hub lab prop is the ticket if you just wanna go fast as poss. Spend 1500 or so and with a hyd. Jackplate you can run a little more pitch and get away with it. Probly never see 80 nomatter what. Gotta fish an Allison or Bullet if you want triple digits.
Your test results was along the line with what I've been reading about 4 blade props. It's said that 4 blade props are more efficient at cruise speeds, which is why I bought one, and 3 blades perform best at WOT/max speed.
Could almost guarantee he didn’t have his rpm high enough for either of the 4 blades, mercs need to run high in the rpm band usually means dropping pitch 1-2 degrees when going from 3-4 blade.
What is your RPM's that Merc Pro-XS needs to be spinning 5500 RPM's to be in its power range of the camshaft. The rev limiter is around 6350. So 6125 would be ideal. But you keep doing what you do Millenial. At least try to show all aspects when you post a Video. Speed RPM's jack plate height trim angle.
I can't say I think too much of these 4 stroke motors after having much better thrust 2 strokes my whole like. When my brand new Black Max prop bent like butter on a submerged log, I bought 2 different stainless steel props thinking it would improve performance. What a shock. The weak 4stroke 75HP 2019 Mercury could not even spin the heavier props of the same pitch, losing 8mph and 1000rpms.
Everyone goes for that top end speed and forgets midrange "running" speed. Do you run the boat wide open everywhere? No that's where the 4 blades will shine, midrange RPM, speed and gas millage. I'd love to see a run at 4000 rpm measuring speed. Don't think you could ever measure fuel economy. Nice test though, solidified what we already knew on top end.
When tournament fishing it is important to be able to get to spots fast, perhaps you have a lower boat number then someone else and you can gain ground if you are a bit faster....they may be heading to your same spot. Also in tournament fishing with a time limit every cast counts and every spot you go to is eating up by time so the faster you can go run your spots the more minutes you save to be able to be fishing. I am very efficient with the things I can control when tournament fishing....multiple rods rigged up with the same baits so I don't have to retie just try to do anything I can to help shave minutes from being wasted.
Running a hi5 my boat. The guy I bought it from swore by it.. 18' boat with a 115. Is slow out of the hole, but does great in rough water for it's size. Anyone has similar results?
@Reel-Lentless there's way too many variables involved with bass boats. You can't stereotype it. I didn't say that it wasn't true I said that's not necessarily true and I didn't elaborate meaning that it is not true in every single case. there are way too many makes and models of boats different weight combinations different motor Jack plate combinations. There are times when a 4 blade wither the same pitch and cup or not will get more of the hull up out of the water thus giving you more speed than the three-blade will. Is this true in every case no it's not. But saying 100% three blades are faster than 4 is not a 100% accurate statement.
Because of the 4th blade on the prop it most likely has less slip, therefore less slip = less RPM now the engine is not operating in its peak operating range! This guy left out 1 huge piece of information on each prop, and that is how the RPMs changed with each prop! Very poor video lacking critical information!
Looking at your RPM's with the fury 25 4blade, I'd say you'd be able to run a 26inch 4 blade and be getting 71+mph while still being in your manufacturers specification RPM range
Where around the Delaware are you. I fish the Delaware river all around Philly the Skyukil river not far below the Commadore Barry Bridge. Raccoon creek oldmans creeks Paradise lake the hole in the wall. I can show you where to catch good fish.
2 mile and hour... you’d be crazy not to run a 4 blade.... If you had to make a long run you could run 60 or so and have way more range and less wear for sho
The 4 blade will also save your lower unit in a tournament of a lifetime maybe someday because you got on plane in 5 yards and only 2.5 feet deep vs 25 yds and 3.0 deep the whole way... Stump Or mud and sand= spun hub insert
I wish! If I did I wont be pulling that boat with a Jeep Grand Cherokee! I am sponsored by Mercury so I am fortunate in the fact that I can get there props and try them out without paying retail.
Gary Lukas untill it blows up in a year. Watch the races its very easy to see what motors are fastest, does anyone even waste time racing with an Evinrude.
Thank you for taking your time to educate those of us trying to make the best decision in purchasing the right prop for our vessels!

Are you paying attention to the RPMs at all? that’s generally the best way to tune a prop to your boat.

Thanks Andrew, I appreciate it!
Just because your boat is 1 mph faster doesn’t mean you’re running the best prop. Would rather holeshot and control over speed, especially 1 mph.
thank you, my dad owns a 1998 Lake&Bay Boca Grande, im 13 btw, and we run a 4 blade that is much better than most 3 blades we have tried, we have a sponcer for yamaha so we get to have our motor tuned when ever they come out with a new one. we have a 250 vmax sho with 350 hp, we can hit fully loaded with gas and people and rods and bait and a few 12ft cast nets around 79 to 82 mps, with full gas and 2 people and a blacked out baitwell we can hit 83, and with a low tank of gass and no water in the well we can hit abt 90+. If you want top end and a holeshot on a 3 blade you need 3 12mm holes in the prop was a service bulletin years ago

on my 24 wellcraft i run a 23p
Anytime you can keep a cap on while your running ,you do not have a fast boat

Do you remember what the Best prop to pad height was on that boat and 24 3 blade set up was.

Bluemarsh is a lake I fish nearby me! Did you get a chance to fish? It could be a tough lake !
I thought you might loose a bit more top speed than you did with the 4 blade good test I was just about to do it you saved me some cash thanks bud
I went with a 4 blade and went 2 inches of pitch bigger and I’m running the about 1 mph faster then a 3 blade and stayed in the peak rpm range
im running a 25 tempest + on a Triton 19 TRX. I have a 225 Pro XS with a torque Master lower unit and I'm getting 71.6 top end. I always have plenty of fuel water in my lap well in the tournament load.

shingnosis dude it’s a legend, not a stroker or bullet. You put a lighting et on it won’t plane
What boat launch or marina was that?
wish I could see the wide open throttle rps

What about 25 or 26 pitch 3 blade?
What should I use to mercruiser 3:0
Should've tried the fury 3 blade in a 25 or 26p.
Want lift + speed run a tempest plus
Have you tried a 25p 3 blade?
Yes I have It is actually a pretty good prop as well
Basscat Pantera 2 with 25 trophy plus 4 blade I get 69mph, with fury 3 25 pitch I get 71mph...going to try the fury 4 25 pitch as well to see how it does

Where do you get your props to test? I’m in Florida and the company, “Prop Gods” doesn’t carry the fury. I currently run a 23 tempest plus. Thanks
I ordered them straight from Mercury
SmallmouthCrush can you return the ones that you didn’t select or do you have to sell them on your own
I have to sell them on my own.
SmallmouthCrush why dont you use BBlades prop test program?
Frank n Jimmy's propellers
White legs and some pants sorta got me bra. lol good stuff. :D
What’s the difference between pitch and I got a 26p on my 250 pro Xs

Interesting video. What is the horse power of your Pro XS?
It is a 250 Pro XS
glad i fish for salmon
put sharrow propeller better performance in you bassboat
26p fury on a Yamaha 300 and a 21' skeeter getting 74mph
The Fury 3 will absolutely throw less blades than the Junk Fury 4s...
More blades more stable ride more hole shot
Running a hi5 my boat. The guy I bought it from swore by it.. 18' boat with a 115. Is slow out of the hole, but does great in rough water for it's size. Anyone has similar results?
Less blades equals more top end

stick the mercury 4 stroke 400bhp on it ;)
Shants. They are called shants.

Do you just have too much money to waste?
I wish! If I did I wont be pulling that boat with a Jeep Grand Cherokee! I am sponsored by Mercury so I am fortunate in the fact that I can get there props and try them out without paying retail.
So your gonna give up better holeshot and control. For 1mph?
Lol
not trying to be a jerk. but the evenrude 225ho on a 21ft champion does 75 easy
Gary Lukas untill it blows up in a year. Watch the races its very easy to see what motors are fastest, does anyone even waste time racing with an Evinrude.
