  • A very enjoyable afternoon at the Lavender Line in Sussex. Steam duties were handled by 1954 Bagnall N0 3061 Empress, and diesel by sole remaining Wickham Railbus N0 999507 of 1958. This vehicle never saw public service as it was always a departmental machine. It is the only one of it's type to be preserved.

It's a nice little enthusiast railway and I like to visit it as it's a stone's throw from where I live.

They have been having operational difficulties this year and sadly are not running any trains at the moment.

I would like to see this railway extended.

Having spoken to the train guard, though the bridge is still in place at the Worth Halt end, the land owner has no plans to allow for an extension of the line that way. At the Isfield end you can see the trackbed, but the reinstatement of the crossing may cause problems.

Charles Bennett Heritage Railways. Thank you. I hope one day that they can. I also wonder if they can extend south over the level crossing at Isfield? Thank you for your response.

On the Kent and East Sussex in Bidenden there is a road crossing on quite a busy road so it can be done

Great Video Charles. You put a lot of work in to these, planning your shots to get continuity. I tried the settings you suggested in your "About" info. 35mbps Mp4 etc. Fantastic HD. Used this in latest video for a charity fundraiser for a street car club.

I always stick to the highest bitrate from shooting to upload. Long render or upload times don't bother me. I just leave the computer to do it's thing.
I do quite a bit of research if I'm going to a new railway. I look at their website, Google maps and other videos to check out vantage points, and the train timetable as well. I try to cover as much as possible when shooting. This is why I concentrate on railways with short running lines. I can ride up and down multiple times to cover as much as possible. On average you only see about a third of what I actually shoot.

Charles Bennett Heritage Railways I appreciate the work people put in. It is a shame TH-cam doesn't promote these smaller channels more. I was once earning a few quid from my videos. Yt moved the goal posts. Now I am eligible to earn from my videos again they are dragging their heels. Surprise surprise.

My near by steam railway, "K.E.S.R" re placing the line, Bodiam to Roberts bridge, there is a lot of land ownership problems/A21 to cross

Nice view from the level crossing at Isfield station, beyond the gate, showing some one's garden on the route

If ever network rail do decide to re-open Lewes - Uckfield will the owners of the Lavender line have to vacate after all the hard work they have put in?

    • @UKHeritageRailways
      @UKHeritageRailways  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I think a re-opening would be very unlikely. Also, the land owner beyond the end of the line has said no to an extension.

I agree that it is a very nice video, but it would benefit with a "voice-over" explaining the history of the line or at least "taglines" which would possibly encourage more visitors & membership to support the line's further expansion.

Thanks for your comment. I deliberately refrain from doing a v/o so as not to distract from the live audio. The Lavender Lines' website includes a history of the line.

The Bluebell RLY, now we can get to the railway via East Grinstead. At the Sheffield park end, all the land is re developed with housing

Made my first visit, July this year, Isfield to Worth halt, short and sweet, one mile of track. Extending beyond worth halt? Lavender needs a lot of money and planning rites
