The bass player is Koki Ito who has played live shows with Tatsuro Yamashita. The bongo percussionist is Nobu Saito who has been playing with Takanaka for years. Saito has also played with a ton of huge Japanese city pop / jazz fusion artists like Tatsuro, Miki Matsubara, Kazumi Watanabe, etc. Takanaka still tours btw. I believe he just finished up his ULTRASEVEN-T tour. The drummer is Masahiro Miyazaki who has also played and still tours with Takanaka. One of the keyboard players is Hiroyuki Namba who also has played with some huge names in Japan. The other keyboard player is Tohru Shigemi who's also played with Tatsuro Yamashita.
Hey Dave I absolutely love the reaction to two of my favorite guitarists and overall artists. I just wanted to comment on the way you mention Santana, because Takanaka did do a live show in I believe Brazil with him. Takanaka has taken many inspirations from around the world for his music, and one of the larger places he has taken influence is Brazil. If you listen to his album 'Brasilian Skies' you will see a lot of this specific inspiration in it. If you are a large fan of Santana and like Takanaka's music, I suggest you go watch and listen to that. Other than that my favorite Takanaka album is 'The Rainbow Goblins', and if you are also interested in it I suggest you check it out. Besides that, I hope that you continue to dive deeper into the hidden treasures that is Japanese music, especially their Jazz fusion.
