Nice video. Underwelming car. If you like this, I think you should consider a Renault 4. Mini Aceman vs Volvo EX30 vs Renault R4, a comparison video is needed! 😊
Cost cutting, and ever since the gen before last it has been really obvious... I would never shell out the cash for a new one, better off buying a Chinese car. But for those who have money to burn or a company budget, a lease can be fun.
I was excited about the Aceman as we have a Clubman and would like to go electric but I'm disappointed. Expensive, not very pretty, and doesn't challenge its competitors in any meaningful way. No more MINIs for us I think.
Yes the EX30 looks Spartan but offers more as standard, quicker and bigger battery also cheaper. Can’t use the made in China card as the Aceman is made there too. For the range and power the Aceman is £10k over priced.
The question that instantly popped into my head upon first glance of the Aceman, "Those are some massive rear fender bolsters." Love the look. Hate the impracticality. So I was really hoping that once the boot was opened, I'd see that volume made available. Sadly, no. Personally, I'd love to know what the enclosed volume is between the boot inner wall and the fender. It looks to be quite large. Pity it's completely unusable.
It’s not the old line up that made sense Countryman-Clubman, Hatch. We have had five MINI’s two factory ordered on the drive in a clubman and hatch. They are missing the mark to me and we have already ordered a new Car to replace the Clubman and it isn’t MINI. The hatch could be swapped out for the new R5 that does look brilliant. The batteries are a few years behind the bigger real world still under 200 miles is a bit embarrassing.
It reminds me of Stilettos which makes sense considering it's targeted for the same type of consumer. Those that prefer styling over function. FWIW I have a friend who was the manager of the largest BMW/Mini dealership in New Jersey, USA for over a decade. One of the perks was a new Mini every six months that he promptly gave to his wife while he preferred a Honda S2000 and various BMWs.
Fun review, thank you. I am actively considering buying a Mini. The ALL4 gives me speed and 4WD but is too chubby. The Electirc gives me a small car form I like. I am really not sure what the Aceman gives me especially at the price. Throughout the range I can get the exceptional Mini interior so that is not an issue in the choice. In fact what this shows is just how well Mini have segmented their market.
It's a bit weird. If you go ICE you can get a 5-door cooper, but for whatever reason if you want a 5-door EV mini hatch you have to go for the Aceman. Well, Mini's platform logic is a bit weird in general, given the ICE mini, the EV mini and the mini convertible each being on their own individual platform not shared with the others.
i just wish that plastic low part infront of centre cupholders was not there and it was a space instead. i prefer space then instead of a middle tunnel like all petrol cars have
I like Mini's new interior designs, like the use of fabrics and layout etc, however, where they have used plastics, they have used the flimsiest and cheapest feelings plastics they could find, I am happy with use of plastics much easier to keep and family-friendly, however, for the price point, they should feel a little less like they were made in someone's basement on a 3d printer.
Limited range is fine for 90% of my driving around the neighborhood. If released in the U.S. I would get the smaller battery. We will keep the old ICE car for occasional road trips. If we ever let the ICE car go, we can simply rent a car for the occasional road trip.
As a previous owner of both a Gen1 and Gen3 Cooper S the deviation away from the brilliant design of the Stephenson Gen1 doesn't do it for me. Cloth on dashboards, too difficult to clean, I don't want to have to vacuum the dashboard. MINI are not the only ones guilty of this. Same goes for door cards, in every car I have ever owned the door cards get wet when I open the doors in the rain, and kids have very sticky fingers. Car designers, nice easy to clean hard wearing vinyl please.
It’s a bit like that Paceman thing they had in the previous range - utterly pointless. Like parent company BMW X6, when you see someone get out of one you automatically think “well off, but no taste”. 😉
I really like this, I’m not anti EV but they just wouldn’t work for me atm. I’m really gutted they haven’t done this with an ICE, the 1.5 would fit my needs perfectly especially in sport trim
I absolutely love the interior. Couldnt be better (for the most part). But i mean come on… exterior is a huge letdown. However, everyone is complaining about the head lights not being round. But i kind of like the shape. It does distinguish it between its brothers. But the rest of the car… its just flat. The front looks snubbed. Tail lights just dont really match. It had potential. But for the price and that design? Not worth anyones time.
There are problems associating old names with new designs as Ford is discovering with the Capri. It’s difficult for customers to forget what a model has represented for decades and accept new brand values. That aside, the Aceman is expensive, not very practical, not very fast, has limited range and doesn’t ride well. So, that leaves the looks and personally I think the exterior is weird and the interior looks cheap. So, to answer your question Nicola, the EX30, without hesitation.
I would hardly describe the EX30 as "a prison" it's cheaper, longer range, faster, quicker to charge and more spacious. I love(d) MINIs, my last two car were MINIs, the last one electric, but I wanted a five door and MINI, in their infinite stupidity, decided only PETROL MINIs should have a five door option. I waited for the new electric MINI range to come out, hoping that they'd see sense, but nope. No five door Cooper. Just a BIG price bump & a small range increase - too small for a ground-up EV IMO. Then they announced the Aceman. Hope? Nope. It's designed to look like the Ford Puma, not a MINI, has the same low performance and range and the same too-high-for-what-you-get price tag, So I bought an EX30 that does 235 motorway miles real world, 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and cost £37,500 (dealer offer) in the Ultra trim. It seats four adults (comfortably) and a baby seat with a pram in the boot. I'm 6ft and my sons are both close to that. So yeah, I'd take "prison" any day over fluff without substance.
All valid points, but the EX30 is utterly depressing inside and that’s what she’s getting at. Different opinions, some will like the EX30 but some will like the Aceman.
@@mattuk4748 If you wanted a more fun interior, the Smart #1 is even better equipped at lower trims, more roomy than the Mini in the cabin and the boot, and a fair bit cheaper than the Volvo. Still not as funky as the Mini, but it's plush and fun.
wow how they have lost their way in the design department...its tortuous to look at. Its almost as though they have flicked through design books in some Hubei located car company's design office and picked some generic shapes and told the fully automated factory to bolt it all together. Oh and culture wash it (Union Jack lights anyone) and charge top dollar for it. And of course...it will be lapped up in droves by individuals who fail to see the irony.
So you can fold down the rear seats to make a big space but then can load anything big due to the stupid high boot lip. Do designers these days actually design cars for use in the real world or just to look cool in the adverts.
Looks cute, but is also very tinny and all that cheap plastic everywhere is really a no-go for me. But the look is spot on, should have called this Countryman...
I actually think the design is quite a well resolved compromise between the Countryman and the ‘Mini’ It’s not as big and ugly as the big one but shares its modernised design language. The mini Mini although a little less ugly than the third generation is confused, trying to hold onto round headlights but having the weird triangular rear lights. I’m with Manos Jeep Avenger please or EX30 or EV3 or I stick with my e2008!
I'm now enjoying my second Mini. But don't think I'll be getting a third. This new range isn't for me. I'll keep my current one for as long as possible, then probably move to something else... A shame, as I've been a fan since the 70's.

My Volvo V40 has a 335l boot so this is not the car for me if I’m going electric. The #1 has about 323l but can be made bigger by sliding the rear seats
The electric Mini looks cool but the others just don’t appeal, way too much plastic on the sides which is so ugly! Whoever designs these cars should really go back to the drawing board.
Why you should go for this at all is a mystery to me. The R5 is better in every way except back seat space, looks hugely better, has a cool interior that is also practical, is a lot lighter and efficient and is fully made in Europe. Want something a bit bigger but still retro-cool, the R4 will do it. Both are a LOT less expensive than this Mini, that's not mini anymore, and look much, much better. A Megane is much better value (and a much better car) for less money. And the Volvo EX30 and KIA EV3 seem to be better deals. Unless you really like the interior (they've ruined the exterior), or you're a British car fanatic (although this is a Chinese BMW), there's no way how you can justify 40k for this. R5 for me. And they didn't even mention it in the review...
Why people complain about range? It's more than enough for daily commuting. I don't see people complaining about ICE car's range. We need to move on and think electric. The new paradigm.
“Too expensive, too impractical, too weird looking” is about the average reaction to any new Mini model throughout the years (remember the latest Clubman? Or first Countryman? Or previous Cooper?). Like always, it always completely misses the point.
That level of woollarding in the thumbnail is truly exceptional. Excellent stuff

Designed by a committee that didn’t speak to each other 😳
Ah you mean British Leyland.😂
We've all been in those useless committee/meetings 😊
That driver seat armrest is from a leftover temu gaming chair, right?
Best car review presenter on TH-cam, me thinks. ✌🏼🌍
I liked those quirky barn doors from the Countryman, I think they should have carried that forward to this model.
Clubman you mean?
@Commentator541 I might not of had enuf coffee, so claim that I may not have known what I meant. 😁
She summarized my view the moment I found the website of its concept. “What does it do? Nothing (plus idk), but do I like it? Yes!”. 😂
Far better than the previous 5 door mini. I like it. Not a huge fan of the front, but, that's a nice car
Mini should always have round lights. Car fails at the basic requirement!
Totally agree.
Absolutely. Round headlights! Mini blew it and VW blew it. 🤦♂️
Nah, the brand should evolve as it does. Very very nice car and review
What happened to the Mini design team? We’re they all fired?

Especially, when it‘s a british car… 😉. But whatever, I love to seeing her in videos with her refreshing way of „explaning“ the cars.
I don’t think any of MINI’s new models matches its predecessors. I also think the removal of the Clubman (and replaced by this) is a huge shame!
Yes, I’ve been waiting for an EV version of my Clubman…😕
@@davidvestey6014I could never understand why they didn’t offer it in the previous model.
Looks like the clay concept model slid into the design studio wall and they didn’t fix it before it went into production.

Damn, that's alot of money with that short range.
Great video as always 😀 love your visit my hometown Elsinore 🇩🇰 i forgot beautiful car.
Oh thank God there's a HUD. But a Mini car without its roundness (especially in the front lights) just doesn't feel right.
Like that its only 1.75m wide and 4.07m long. Old UK garages and multistorey car parks should be a doddle, but it can still fit four 6 footers.

The B button stands for boring! It's far better to have the flappy paddle leavers as in the Megan E-Tech.
Like the outside, love the interior. BUT..... slow, expensive, slow the charge and poor range, it's just not good enough! Why would you???
