I was a freshman in college when The Crossing came out. I was totally stunned--I never heard anything like that before. I think Steeltown remains my favorite CD of theirs. The two Steve Lilywhite produced albums of theirs is just simply amazing.

The legend that was Stuart Adamson

When I was 17 and heard Steeltown on the radio, I was shocked. After The Crossing, I could not imagine greater depth. I was wrong. Girl with Grey Eyes, Just a Shadow. This album changed my life completely in the span of 1 week.
I cry for Stuart every day. When he left us I thougtht it was my fault, I should have reached out. He did so much for me and I did nothing for him.

This song is total power, I'm in my late 20's and I wish BC would have been one of the great bands I grew up with, but here in the States all we got really was In a Big Country, which is a glorious song that I've always loved, but it wasn't until recently that I caught that video on TV and realized I should dig deeper because I don't know of anything else they've done...so grateful for TH-cam.

There was a lot of BC in the US but it was very hard to find, really was only in the hole in the wall record stores....

Know it sounds cheesy, but this song really means a lot to me. One of my favorite tunes EVER. Hadn't heard it in a while, and once I booted up this video, I almost started crying at my freaking desk LOL

Met Stuart a few times at the Carnegie centre Gym in Dunfermline in the early 90's. Great guy had time for everyone, didn't have a superstar ego.

That's absolutely brilliant. I would never have expected to find footage of this concert on the internet: Big Country 19.06.1988, Berlin-Weißensee, Radrennbahn (G.D.R.) at "Friedenswoche der Berliner Jugend". My brother was there - for us this was like opening a window to rock music influenced by celtic tradition. That's just grand! From that time on this has been my favourite kind of music. Phantastic. When later, in 1991, the steelworkers striked in our town they played Steeltown on Radio4U...

It may sound stupid, but especially the intro fits just perfect in time and place. Such a great atmosphere. Those pictures of the old days are making me sad somehow. ;)

Hard to imagine. Well, I wasn't in Berlin, but Steeltown affected me like no other album at age of 16. I was thrust into a world that I had only thought I knew, but I didn't at all. People. The world of people. I knew persons, mostly like me, not 'those of my own kin'. Never thinking of a dream, let alone it was all that was left to hang upon. Steeltown wasn't a wake up. It was a conduit into a way of thinking that I had never heard or read. It was "there was a future of hands of skill"

This album Steeltown was brillient, mind you they all were. Stuart you were never recognised for how brillient you really were. I only wish I still had my Concert T-shirt fom the steeltown tour, sleeveless, grey in colour does anyone have one? It was only 21 years ago. "400 hundred miles, of fields of fire"

Stuart was brilliant, all of those guys are. He did a lot of creative guitar work at this concert. My favorite version of this song is on Without the Aid of a Safety Net, far more hard edged than this version.

Yeh ... you are right ! I met him too (in Milan after '90 concert): I remember Him talking 20 min to everybody, praying Security and Manager to wait and finally asking everybody (20/25 person) to follow and go have a beer together; friend after 2 minutes !!! Great person !!!
