I like how Doc knew which songs were proper to keep simple and which ones were meant to be elaborated on. Everybody wants to play a Tony rice solo over this song but Doc keeps it simple because it’s a murder ballad and it’s all about melodically enhancing the original melody instead of ripping generic licks over a progression in different orders. A true musician.
Glad to hear this one again. First heard it in 1964, when I was 10 years old. Would like to have traveled back in time to see who these individuals were. Did he really kill her?
Perhaps Tom Dula did not actually kill Laura Foster, however he does appear to have been an accessory to murder which is a capital offense in any case.
It's always good to hear the voice of my late cousin. I'll never forget hearing him sing to me in his kitchen when I was 10 years old in 1961.
Doc was one of the all-time greats. You were very fortunate to know him.
Lucky man god bless doc
He's one of the best ever.
That's so cool I'm glad your cousin is timeless
Oh wow that outs you at the exact age of my grandmother, she was a '51 baby😅
The roots of most folk blues guitar picking today. Grandfather of Old Time Country music .Pure genius.

My Pa used to sing this all the time. I miss him, he past last year, but this is a beautiful memory in a song.
I'm sorry for your loss
Anche a me,perché anch'io ho perso il mio l'anno scorso, ma lui mi è vicino in ogni modo...❤

Nope. It was another woman.

È diversa dall'originale, però visto che il cantante non è più con noi,che Dio l'abbia in gloria❤
Wasn’t this originally hanging music?
it still is?
I love Doc!! I feel maybe Bob Dylan was influenced by this mans/families style.
I damn sure know Billy 'Mother Fucking' Strings was influenced by Doc. Doc Lives On!
Who killed Laurie Foster?
It *probably* wasn't Tom Dooley, at least if you ask residents of the area.
Watson tells the story on the album with David Holt
