Not to mention them rioting and even protesting isn't really doing anything positive. If you want your voices properly heard, schedule a meeting and get your voice actually heard. Make your case and point and let the legal process put together documents and reform in order to make a positive change. People going out there night after night are only doing this because they are being allowed to, and they want to destroy things. They don't give a damn about BLM. These riots are happening because they are marxist and they don't really care about government, but they do love the money they are getting because you know they don't have jobs, if they did they wouldn't be up as late as they are every single day. My vote would be to disallow those who riot to get government stimulus payments and unemployment assistance. Instead their money should go directly to reverse the damage they caused.

If you really want to claim that CS gas, which I have been exposed to numerous times in the military, is in violation of Geneva Conventions, you need to look at the alternative.
You can have 40mm tear gas, the effects of which are mostly gone within 10 minutes, the entirety of which is gone in 24-48 hours.
On the other hand 40mm high explosive grenades are NOT in violation of Geneva Conventions, so your alternative to tear gas is having your body disappear in a cloud of pink mist. Let that sink in.

As a soccer referee, we get into crowd control issues on a much lower level, yet with similar issues. Argumentative folks want their opinion enforced, yet they are not to be the judge. It's against the laws of the game to even take their testimony. The referee may only lean on match officials (typically the assistant referees) for what they observed in a situation. In no way are match officials to put their own lives in jeopardy, as police officers do, with calculated risk. Baiting or persistent arguing with a referee can get a player an ejection. Making a call is entirely up to the decision of the referee.
Anarchy, by definition, disrespects/disregards civil and criminal law in their own actions. It does not attempt to improve society. Ironically, these anarchists cry out against violation of their perceived rights (which do NOT include destruction of property or harassment of other people), while their actions deny personal rights (life, health, peaceful co-existence) of police officers.
Portland' anarchists' orchestrated multi-player mob game, being played out to the detriment of both the black cause and everyone's property rights, must be stopped, by police or by citizens, who never give up their rights to protect their own life and property. I pray that the police will be respected, not mindlessly maligned. Equity will never be gained by destruction: it must be gained by construction.

I don't think she's all that bad of a reporter. She's caught in the middle of common-sense police and rabid, insane, destructive rioters. What's really messed up is that the mayor and other local leftist politicians (along with leftists nationwide) have adopted an ideology of mental illness that has been promoted in colleges and universities. So she's stuck with a situation that there is this ideology out there that is believed by enough people that she has to ask the cop how he responds to it. That ideology is one of the elephants in the room.
-- Unfortunately, neither she nor the cop have the academic expertise to address how leftist ideology is fundamentally flawed, and especially the postmodernist notions of truth that have exacerbated those flaws.
-- When she brings up the notion of systemic racism (1:09:52), I wanted to puke, but I know that BS is out there and needs to be addressed. That construct is among many fecal deposits that critical race theorists have deposited along the information highway. Critical race theory is only one of the demented fields of leftist "inquiry" that begins with the assumption that there's no such thing as truth, and any kind of propaganda that they can spin that gullible useful idiots will swallow will help leftist gain power. This spinning is evident in their alteration of the definition of "racism" as "prejudice plus power," so that people who can claim to be oppressed or to lack privilege are absolved of their racism. And with this systemic racism BS, they twist it into calling any system with unequal outcomes "racist," regardless of the participation of inner-city cultures of fatherless boys with extraordinarily high rates of crime. It's just a responsibility dodge that blames a system based on freedom and responsibility for the bad outcomes of lazy, stupid, and criminal people.

The National Guard would have to be deployed to allow for them.
Referred to as Active Denial systems.
The reason they have not rolled them out, is because of optics. The whole point of all the riots, is to force Trump to call in the military, so the Left can say “See. We told you he was a despot. He is using the military on peaceful protestors. He wants martial law, and to be crowned KING.”
Live ammunition is the same. The moment a live round is used by police, the video and photos will be everywhere, and there will be a whole new call for impeachment and imprisonment.
The types of riot control that the national guard could use:
There is riot foam, which hardens super fast, and traps them in place. Messy, but good for capture.
There is Sound wave emitters that make people feel sick. Israeli Army used a device nicknamed "The Scream" to scatter protest groups. The Scream sends out noise at frequencies that affect the inner ear, creating dizziness and nausea. The device can also cause hearing damage.
A laser weapon devised by the US Marines will allow the forces to send voice messages at long range which can be turned up to deafen, dazzle or even kill. The weapon will be known as the Scalable Compact Ultra-short Pulse Laser System (SCUPLS) and will be placed on trucks and tanks.
There is the microwave beam, that makes people feel hot, and goes straight through clothing.
Non-lethal acoustic devices are already in use by U.S. forces in Iraq, called MAD. MAD that can broadcast a targeted beam of sound for a more than mile. At close range, the sound from these devices can be terrifying and painful.

I appreciated this interview. I have two thoughts and one statement. The statement first so you know where I’m coming from. I’m an old liberal and ws part of the free speech movement in the 60’s and still hold dear the belief that earnest dialogue buttressed with facts between two groups of people with divergent views leads to meaningful change. And, when necessary, peaceful protest and peaceable civil disobedience. But I noticed a trend several years ago of both the woke left and the Gingrich right. This trend revolves around dishonest argument, denial of facts, and a willingness to use violence. So, I left Portland. It had become too insular for my tastes. Just so you know where I’m coming from.
My take away from this conversation was it’s one sidedness. This was a police officer trying to do his best to respectfully explain his point of view. But this was an interview and accompanied by pushback from the interviewer. I hunger for a discussion when both sides argue their respective points in dialogue. Unfortunately, I’ve had discussions with the left and right in Portland. And I got to tell the intestinal right is easier to talk to than the woke left. The woke left in my view can’t tolerate any opinion that doesn’t align with theirs. They do not value free expression of thought. This is probably a result of being steeped in Critical Theory (old school) and Critical Race Theory (new school/ post modernest) that having a discussion based on fact is literally impossible.
And my second take away is, Portland is in big trouble. It looks as is the politicians are playing the short game but giving the noisiest in the crowd what they want now not understanding that the crowd will come for them too. Look at history. It’s always been so.

diana dowie Nobody is saying anything about the right to protest - peaceful protests are fine and we all support them. These rioters are NOT PEACEFUL PROTESTERS and it’s time the peaceful protesters call them out and stop protecting them.
But as long as these protests continue, so will the riots. They got their point across, as misdirected as it is. Ignoring the reasons these police interactions went bad, only focusing on black victims and not the white victims, who make up double the number of deaths due to police interactions going bad (something like 54 last year).
The numbers don’t lie, cops aren’t killing black people at a higher rate than white people and every one of those situations happened due to resisting arrest, attacking the cops, going for a weapon, or any number of things. Cops are trained to protect themselves when they don’t know what kind of weapons people might have on them. People attack & kill cops too you know, they do have to protect themselves.
If you’re in an interaction with a cop, don’t resist. Follow instruction and it won’t turn violent. Attacking a cop or resisting arrest never ends well. Except during these riots, apparently.
Generally speaking, it’s a myth that cops will fuck with you if you’re not doing anything here in Portland. There’s just not enough cops to go around for them to waste time on things like that.
