These two got me into darts. I’ve to this day never felt like what I did feel watching these two battle it out in their primes. (Ps barnys prime is my fav darts player) so many legends on this game. Thanks for getting me into this wonderful game
Greatest match ever and the best example of why Taylor was so great. RVB played out of his skin to win and still didn't get there until the sudden death leg. That is how high Taylor set the bar. They were both winners in this match to me because the standard was incredible.

Yeah, pretty relaxed, a bit like John Part and Steve Beaton, cool as a cucumber. The Power always looks like he's shooting to kill, he should have been a secret service sniper! lol
That 180 from Barneveld is *THE greatest 180 EVER* Correct me if you think otherwise. The WC, the deciding frame, against THE Phil Taylor, just after Phil threw a 180 himself and the pressure got even higher.
I feel like this was the tipping point where the PDC started crushing the BDO. Up until then both organisations had really good players and there was genuine competition, once Barney moved over and immediately showed ex-BDO guys could have huge success the rot seemed to set in at the BDO. Some of the top guys like Wolfie and Tony O'Shea stayed loyal but it was never as competitive again.
RVB at his best it would be nice to see RVB win a TV major this year before he retires at the end of this year I think RVB one of the sports greatest players along side MVG The late Eric Bristow and the greatest of them all Phil The Power Taylor
Amazing thing pressure, because Taylor would check out from 148 ninety-five times out of a hundred, at home. Even in a pub exhibition game, with an audience he’d do it 90 times out of a hundred. But in a big game it turns into 30/70 chance. I remember Bobby George saying that he started off his practice sessions by hitting every double on the board consecutively. And if he missed he started again. But it never took him longer than 15 minutes. That’s how good they are in zero pressure environments
I much preferred the world darts championship played at the circus tavern, a really intimate venue like the crucible in snooker. It's not the same at the larger Alexandra Palace, I preferred the Tavern.
That’s inviting two more to join it ? Isn’t it isn’t it and whispers isn’t again John Gwynn a truly wonderful darts commentator. I was met John In Aberdeen I stopped and asked him about the darts he seemed perplexed and then suddenly came to life I think he was shocked that someone knew his face

Alan Mansell The same goes for MvG. Unbeatable. MvG in top form would beat even Taylor in top form. Not the other way around. Taylor is the greates but MvG is the best. Simple as that. And also Barney beat a Taylor in top form in this very WC final that you are commenting on...
@@oogabooga2337 MvG is still in his prime. He just won the PL. Times are VERY different though comparend to Taylor's prime. The number of good players and level of play has gone up huge amounts. Taylor literally played against postmen, carpenters and bricklayers who took up darting as a hobby on the side. MvG has had to compete from the moment he picked up his first dart against huge numbers of seasoned progfessionals dedicated to darts and nothing else. The competition nowadays is unparalelled. And a fair comparison between the two careers can only be made after MvG is retired like Taylor. You can not say Taylor's prime lasted longer than MvG's when MvG is still adding years to his prime. And you will always have to take into consideration the level of play and huge number of excellent players in MvG era compared to Taylor's era.
The rule was changed after this game so that you had to take the dart out when going for bull. Barney won fair and square though that 180 after Taylors was some bottle.
RVB is a legend that has to be remembered. Don 't let that be washed away by recent results.
Used to watch PDC highlights late at night with my dad when I was a kid and he would let me stay up late to watch with him, absolutely love RVB.
What a core memory.... 9 years old watching this with my dad. Darts fanatic for life

The best match I ever watched. Van Barneveld was always one of my top 2 favourite players, alongside Priestley.

Yeah but he fingered someone in a caravan
@@hansolo2121 what a little weirdo you are
Think this is more telling of barneveld than taylor. Phil bottled a 3-0 lead. Madness from the dutchman
Weird argument lol: He’s so great, that he loses 😅

I think so. Absolutely killled Phil for the rest of the leg.
Yh 100% Phil would off needed a 9-12 dart leg to win wich under that pressure is very unlikely
Frame??
there is no such thing as the greatest 180 ever

The greatest ever match and in a 'proper' venue as well.
