    Katrina was my fiddle teacher. I'm so blessed to have had that experience! Not to mention I love her fiddling! I so miss those lessons and time with her and her family.

    Excellent fiddle player. You don't really see a lot of left handed players. She magnificent.

      And it's a right-hand fiddle strung the usual way.

    In classical violin the most powerful bow action is a Down Bow action for a 4 note [in Bach for example ]
    chord is from bass to treble Down bow [ G across to E]
    For a left handed bow player[right handed fingering ] therefore the instrument must be re -strung mirror image - the internal bass bar and sound post and fingerboard curvature and bridge clearances altered too.

    • @johnplink
      @johnplink ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Her fiddle is not restrung or altered in the way you describe. It's strung the usual way for a right-handed fiddle.

    How are the high and cramped positions on the E string in classical violin concertos reached when the
    right hand has to stretch across and avoid the G,D and A strings then?
    And how are the powerful bow strokes [ needed for classical violin music double stopping ] on the heavier G and D strings accomplished with those string now only available by the weaker `up strokes`?

  • @wawanbedil2623

  • @philnewton3096

    Symmetry
    -Im now fascinated in how the left hand with its shorter pinky and neighbour was /is generally
    disposed by their natural fall over the right upper bout ofthe instrument [as look at from the front]to ease of access ton the hight positions on the E string [especially during the historical evolution of clasical string playing and up to now-]with the opposing left thumb as an anchor /tactile guide around the neck.
    I tried the reversal of hands [bow in left hand ] on my right- hand strung violin and found the access to the E string by my [now right ]pinky difficult because ofthe reach over the GDA with my right thumb as an shifting anchor no longer in an available position.
    So with left handed scissors/ [left hand drive cars suit the road ] golf clubs archery and small arms sights,
    Lenado`s LH Mirror writing ,can someone add to the debate here -Is LH string playing on a RH strung instrument a process of accomodation as with LH hand writers who would naturall cover up their script whilst movin L to R but not R to Left ?
    Thanks

    • @philnewton4844
      @philnewton4844 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is Very tricky to play high position e string notes on a instrument which evolved with bowing and fingering access to them furthest away , on the opposite side .

    Why does she have three guys pounding away on guitars behind her? They are dragging her down. One is enough.

      I don't think they could be stood any further from the mics either

    • @michaelmartinez8566
      @michaelmartinez8566 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are playing backup rhythm Texas style guitar! Meant to pound on the bass line. Also you don't have to stand up exactly sound hole to mic for it to pick up.

    • @mattwilkinson5623
      @mattwilkinson5623 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks but sound engineering is my day job and I was referring to the guy hiding behind her at the back, I'm sure he's not anywhere near a mic.

    • @michaelmartinez8566
      @michaelmartinez8566 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mattwilkinson5623 Sure she wanted him to be behind her. The fiddler dictates where he or she wants the rhythm guitars at during performance. Also typically there will also be someone behind the fiddler during performance so that the rhythm is directly at back with sound going forward, thereby ensuring the fiddler hears the rhythm they are playing over.

    Left hand fiddle should be disqualified, iti is just to difficult to play left handed.

    • @joeosborn123
      @joeosborn123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, it is so much easier that Katrina keeps winning first place.. LOL. Right handers should be disqualified. ;-).

    • @philnewton3096
      @philnewton3096 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of a left hand golf club -the power hand below - pair of scissors -a left hand drive cars mirrors for the left side rule of the road- To achieve parity between left handed fiddling and right handed playing is that the strings have to be appropriate -ie the
      E needs to be on the left as you look at the bridge from the players view
      merely because of high fingering in classical music has to be accessible without the bow being hindered by having to avoid a G D and A strings if it was strung as fir a right handed [bow]player !

    • @philnewton4844
      @philnewton4844 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you think of USA car which drives on the right side of the road ,,then the drivers seat is built on the left of the car to give the driver prime position near road centrec to view overtakers in mirror. Now if the same car is brought to UK or Europe ,thecdriverc will have blocked rear vision because driver is near the left curbside and nowhere near the centre line of road to view rear with ease. Likewise
      On a violin, because when the bow needs access to high position notes on the E string with ease ,then that string must be near to where the fingers are to climb up the fingerboard with ease,.so right hand fingering [ left hand bowing ]must have the E string exchanged to be near the bow is( and thats where the G was on a conventionally strung model.
      Aa normal instrument .]
      If not changed then classical string music is well nigh I possible
      Same with guitar. This does not apply to other instruments because
      The 2 hands omostly don't have such differing arm roles and postures as bowed instruments .

      What has disqualification to do with music making?
