This video blew my mind 🤯 the way you explain it is so clear. This is fascinating. Barbara Walker is brilliant! I have loved her ever since I got her knitting books a couple years ago, then I discovered she has a tarot as well. I’ve had her book for a few months and I’m always blown away when I dip into it! Her tarot is one of the decks I want to dive into in 2022 ♥️
So, I'm commenting before watching the video... I just want to say that I feel a bit like the odd one out here in the current tarot climate in the sense that... (don't shoot me lol) I actually prefer Strength at 8 and Justice at 11. I only have a personal reason for this and nothing based on the history or usage of tarot in general. The number 8 is my favorite number and it always has been (ever since I was a kid). I cannot explain why the number 8 is so important to me, but it's so important that my chosen phone number heavily features it (every two digit number in my phone number is divisible by 8), and when we were house-hunting, I can definitely say that the fact the house we ultimately chose being house #8 was a contributing factor in choosing it. These are just a few examples. There is something about the number 8 that I am deeply connected to, and I can't exactly say why. Add into this, my two favorite major arcana cards in the tarot are The Magician and Strength. So, because of that... I like that Strength is 8. Also, with Justice being 11... the number "11" looks like scales to me, lol. I know, I know... these are totally personal reasons that have nothing to do with the history of tarot and all that... but that's my reason, lol. Ok, now I'll watch the video 😂
Ooooo I really like this interpretation, broken down it works really well, with the magic number being 20, instead of 21, 10 or 7. Tarot never fails to blow my mind. I honestly can't say which I like better, Strength at 8 or 11. Both make sense too me, and also don't at the same time. I tried (and failed) to explain it on a tangent near the end of my Dar Decks for Fall video, and it was a bit of a mess. haha. You did a great job though, it was really clear. xx
I need to tell you, your voice and your setup are very pleasant and calming to me (not too bright light, no decoration overload, a beautiful cloth, no switch to "professional voice"...). Watching your channel feels like a "relaxed afternoon in a coffee shop with a friend in pre-covid times" I've been changing my mind of strenghth = 8 vs 11 on a regular basis :D. But I must say, Barbara Walker's explanation makes a lot of sense to me. I might have a look at that e-book. Luckily I have an e-reader ( I agree that paper is a nicer experience, and has the advantage that books can be lent or resold, but an e-reader makes moving so much easier, and we had to move quite a lot during the last years....)
I've been a Strength as #8 person for many years, but, despite having Barbara Walker's deck and my book in my collection since my teens, I don't recall reading her rationale for it being #11 or the discussion of 20 as the magic number. So I went back in my books. In Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets, Barbara Walker talk about the "Sacred number 20" (I'm sorry if my choice of words was confusing). In her book on Tarot, she then explain how every card from the first wheel have a spiritual equivalent in the second wheel, always making the total of 20. She gave a few examples... I love her books so much! ☺️
Sylvain.. I hope my comment reaches you as this is my second attempt to repost it. Hands down, the Barbara Walker Tarot IS the deck that I've been working with the most recently. I prefer the astrological placement of 8 Strength (Leo) and 11 Justice (Libra). I merge astrology signs and planets into my tarot readings so in this order it works well for me. BUT I can see the archetypal relationship in the reversal of these two major arcana placements. That's the beauty of the tarot! The interpretations are endless, especially since I work more with *non system* but traditional style tarot decks. I'm suppose to be taking part on a future TH-cam discussion with @Tarotstache about the Barbara Walker tarot. Perhaps you may want to join us. :) The "Secrets of the Tarot" is a indispensible guide not so much for her tarot deck but getting into the roots of the history and symbolic meanings of the tarot. Thank you for pointing out the "'lil devil" peeking behind the "Pope" archetype. The Pope/Hierophant is my tarot birth card.. so I will have to watch out for that "Devil" who is lurking into the path of the Pope! 👹 I'm happy to have met someone else who enjoys the BW Tarot deck! 👍🕯🌹

Justice should be 11 in my opinion which represents the simple number 2. The way I view it is that each of the suits has these 9 stages/ steps so putting the Justice on the 2nd step guarantees that nobody with hidden interests cannot go beyond it. We can move to the 3rd step only if it's fair that to happen. It's the guardian that guarantees only the one with pure intentions is allowed to go beyond.
For what I know' 11 is the correct position for the strength card because the strength card is the gatekeeper for the right loop and the magician is the gatekeeper for the left loop of the infinity symbol, in the marseilles tarot this highlights the two elements that have taken the responsibility to show the way to the souls coming into this world 🌎 there is a book that explains this in detail 👍 let me know if you care to know...? What book this is.
