I fail to see how a coach is responsible for a player fumbling easy passes and throwing bricks at the basket. Is Sides supposed to go out on the court and personally wrap Smith's hands around the ball when it's passed to her? Is she supposed to take shots at the basket for Smith? I'll agree that Sides makes some dimwit calls on plays and who she puts on the court at times, but I'm not going to blame her for simple tasks that are a player's responsibility to perform. I've watched Smith blow way too many executions of easy plays due to mishandling the ball to lay any fault for that at the feet of her coach. If Smith is having 'confidence problem', she needs to focus on getting better through hard work instead of blame-shifting her issues on to other players and the coach. That's what Aliyah, Mitchel, and Lexie have been doing this season, and the results speak for themselves.

Building confidence comes from succeeding at something, and no coach is capable of helping a player succeed if they lack adequate self-motivation to put the necessary amount of work in. Attitude matters. Having a strong work-ethic matters. And, being a self-responsible and self-accountable player instead of an excuse-maker matters most of all.

CC like 10. She's really an awful defender. I think she's the reason why they loss. She just left her mark free for easy 3's like a hundred times.
CC is outmatched against teams that have incredible ball movement. So basically the Lynx and maybe the Liberty. 😅

She will improve her defense I bet my house on it . She works hard on every thing. But you can find defensive players every day but . A player as great as Clark comes once in a lifetime. Grace missed 3 free throws in a row when she got fouled shooting a 3. She got benched and almost never saw the floor after that. You don’t do that to anyone. Grace is a solid backup PG. I like her game.

I like Nalyssa sooooooo much. I wish she wanted to be a Fever but doesn't seem her hearts in it with trying to build with this team. I think you got the right word in regards to Nalyssa's play this year at the Fever: Not having that sense of urgency that you could see in the video from her Baylor days with Coach Mulkey. The only time I see that sense of fun/urgency in her play, is in those moments she drives up to the board and scores following one of those long passes from CC all the way across court ... .... And, then there always that thing of her being a smitten kitten over Carrington so her energy also seems there too ... I want her to find a team that fits her -- which is also better for the Fever team if Nalyssa isn't feeling it there ...

Looks like a few players want to leave not being coached properly to succeed as a team. An experienced coach is desperately needed for the players to progress and be better overall. CC needs an experienced coach to guide her
If Smith and LM leave this team will take a step back and their ownership and GN have riven they have no idea how to build a team. They have gone 10 seasons in a row without a winning record. Lynx added a few pieces this year and they may win the W.

Sides told her at the start of the season she didnt want Smith in the Team anymore but then the Temi injuries happened and she needed to start her again. But with Temi back there is No need to keep Smith in the Rotation, Most important against the Sun with Carrington.
I'd take Smith over Dantes though. She's more athletic and finishes better. However, Smith clearly isn't happy and she doesn't seem to be in very good shape tbh. Look at A'ja and Temi and such. They are FIT and it helps with elevation, running the floor, blocks, etc.

The Fever need a forward that can run out, catch long passes, hit an open catch & shoot 3, and stay in front of their defensive assignment. It doesn't sound like it should be that difficult but apparently it is. No one on the Fever at this time can do all those things.
I agree the talent at the forward position is severely lacking compared to the back court and at center, fever needs a stud at one of the forward positions

You could tell each game when she was drinking Carrington's poison. Frankly, it looked like she was intentionally playing awful in games where Fever was favored to win. If someone gambled, they won big money against the odds.

Sides and Dunn are career and team killers because they are incompetent! Sides almost killed the careers of CC, and Lexie by demonstratively insisting they run a slow half court style of basketball. Hell, the 2024 2nd round draft pick and defense specialist, Celeste Taylor, never got off the bench!?! The careers of Berger and Saxon are done before starting.
That said and to be fair, if you are on the court, you have to produce. Smith has NOT been producing and she is the starting forward!?! I like Smith but her game is NOT improving. In fact, it has regressed.
Dunn had a chance before the trade deadline, last Tuesday, to make the necessary adjustments to positively impact this team’s production and she did nothing! Not a damn thing!
Sides and Dunn were "coaching" before the Olympics to make CC look as bad as possible. "Teach" CC to play like a dinosaur. Mission accomplished of stopping as many records as possible and play slow boring basketball. Once the Olympics were over Dunn and Sides miraculously discovered that maybe playing with pace might be good. How do you trust coaching and managing like that. ? Smith was and still is a liability because she is not committed to her team.

She’s not a good player. Weird spin on her jumpers , poor free throw shooter, terrible defender, not as athletic as you would think, in slow motion when she does have an open shot. Good riddance.

Do y’all understand that when a team gets more talented players that someone has to get less touches… less shots…. Etc. she’s actually have a better year this year compared to last year, she’s just not getting as many touches and shots because the team is a lot more talented this year. All her percentages are actually up.

As for Smith, her lack of confidence can be directly tied to Sides telling her in the early season she was going to be traded right after Temi started catching Caitlin's passes when no-one else could. Smith was very shaken according to her family & prepared for the worst. Then Temi got hurt & Sides continued to play Smith un til Temi was better, then Smith out, till Temi got hurt again. Then in and now Team's back and Smith is out. And everyone is on Nalyssa's case. Sides has destroyed an outstanding truly talented athlete! It was heartbreaking to see what Sides did to Cautlin, and it is heartbreaking to see Smith's confidence destroyed!

Sadly, neither the coach or GM are capable of doing what you are saying they should do.
It’s not Christy Side’s fault for a player not performing as well as expected. It comes down to the individual’s will to practice harder to become a better athlete and an asset to the team. NaLyssa doesn’t hustle, nor does she have that ‘must win’ attitude that top notch players have. The sick part is she has the talent and skills, but doesn’t have the drive to be better.
So having Lexie Hull not on starting lineup who made 6 on 3 point shoot from storm game is not Sides’s fault????
I would expect a good coach to play a role in motivating players. If someone is in a slump, try to help them get out of it.
For the right coach, some players will kill themselves working for them. Some players need someone who can inspire them. Don't underestimate how much a bad coach can undermine a player's attitude, motivation, and potential.

Hope Sides change her starting line up with Hull and Temi. The team has to win against the ATL. Samuelson and Smith are useless in the starting line up no defense and poor shooting.
Looking at her stats from last year and some of her college footage, I was trying to figure out why she was struggling this year. I especially didn't like the way she play when they played the Connecticut Sun with EXCEPTION to last matchup when she really gave it her all. She fights for the ball, gets hit to the ground and still tries again. The Fever need that. I like that she is putting up points again and watching her, I seeing a connection developing between her and Clark. Clark is starting to trust her game. I would like her to stay with the Fever. Alyssa Smith needs to know she does have Fever fans and to keep giving it her all. She is way more talented that people (me including) knew and could be an amazing support team mate as long as Sides does not sabotage her playing time.

You said Sides sets her up for failure... What schould Sides do? Take paint touches away from AB? Take perimeter possessions away from KM and CC? Who should defend the best forward in your opinion if not Smith? There are just 2 things Sides can do: Start her and she will be the 4th option and needed on defense, or play her off the bench in an even smaller role.
Pretty sure Smith herself prefers starting. Cause she sees herself as a possible star. Not to mention it would hurt her trade value even more if she plays 15 minutes off the bench, compared to 15 minutes as a starter. In my book she will never be more then a good role player. Her skillset is just to limited. But right now the Fever have to keep her on the court if possible, cause otherwise they dont get anything of value back in a possible trade.
If you watch CC college game, she was never slowed down. Never. First two game after Olympic break is exactly how CC supposed to play then on Lynx games, Sides changed the lineup and the rotation is so confusing which causing CC slow down. Like I always said. Let CC COOK! Sides is opposite of that.

The 2 games before, she put the ball in the right spot and the Fever got 10 fastbreak points out of them. This game only 2, cause CC's passing was off.
No clue if Sides made the decision or CC herself. But she stopped to force fastbreaks in the middle of the 2nd Quater (after she came back into the game). And the team was better for it. The biggest problem was the missed 3's. Nothing else! If Dantas/Mitchell/Samuelson dont shoot 0/10 from 3 in the 2nd half, the Fever have any chance to win the game.
The gameplan was exactly the same as the last view games. BUT they didnt create TO, and CC was way off on outlet passes. And the Lynx are one of, if the most athletic team in the league. Noone outruns them. And the Run&Gun playstyle didnt work all the time in college. Go back and look how often the Hawkeyes ran against LSU in 2023 and USC in 2024... against the best run&gun is way harder to do. Hell, even in the 2nd LSU matchup they didnt run that much. Like 30 of CC's 41 came out of halfcourt sets...
You can run best off of turnover and def rebounds when opp players are behind the ball. The Linx more often then not didnt even try to go after off reb off of 3P shots. They all sprinted back as soon as the ball was in the air. Tell me how to run fastbreaks against that!

The coach has to see that if it’s a slow down offense, it might help Smith to the detriment of Clark. I think the recent run shows that the fast pace offense wins games for the Fever. It’s a simple question of who do you build your team around.

She should’ve been traded but I doubt she had much value. There’s no reason to have Nalyssa as a focal point of the offense when so many other players are more effective. Bad fit, and lacks tools to be effective defensively

She's the fourth option. It takes a certain mentality to be a good fourth option, and Smith doesn't have it. She has to be contributing in other ways. Temi is a lot better fit.

I watched some clips. She’s gotta run the floor! I don’t know Sides but she strikes me as a rah rah, wanna see energy type coach. If you’re not running back and forth, I think it’s an easy way to get in her doghouse. I agree with you that she can rebound and she seems to finish ok with her right hand. I don’t think they’re ready to play Temi 30 minutes a game so I think Smith has got a little time but this offseason I think they’ll look elsewhere for a big.
Smith was abysmal. Last player (of either team) across center fourt in transition. No idea where Collier was as the lynx cooked them. Smith's brother days please trade her. As a Fever fan, i say yes, please.
What does what she did at Baylor have to do with what she does now? It's on her to play well and she hasn't played worth a damn all season. Sooner she and Wheeler are gone the better.

The issue is not that she’s a bad player, it’s that Temi can be as good of a 4th option except with much better defense. She just doesn’t fit or complement the other starters. By the eye test, the unit that works best is Clark, KM, Lexie, Temi, and AB. And it makes sense because that lineup can space the floor better and has 3 “plus” defenders on the floor rather than just one.
When you have KLS and NaLyssa starting that leaves AB as the only actual good defender on the floor, whereas if you start Lexie and Temi you now have three above average defenders.
I think they tried to trade her but the hard cap makes it so difficult. I think Christie Sides motivates by not being warm and fuzzy supportive at all which some players such as CC and others respond well to. I think AB falls in that category as well. Players like Smith I think it just didnt work and now she is in her own head.
Good Lord have mercy, NaLyssa posted “Everything is in Gods timing” yet she is in a same-sex relationship, which is a clear violation of what the Bible says is allowed. You can’t call on the Lord to help you and bless you, but be living like the devil 24/7, 365 days out of the year.
When we live in outright disobedience to God’s will for our life, we risk coming under a curse, or being punished for rejecting what He commands us to do. I don't see how Smith is being set up for failure unless she is benched and then brought in to spell the 3. If she's a 4, she's matched against the other 4s as you noted. If the other 4s are better, that's not the coach's fault. I'm not a fan of Sides, but I think this is an unfair assessment.
Smith is a great player who needs a fresh start with clear boundaries with Carrington and Smith's family not interfering. One of the expansion teams may provide that fresh start.
Hope the Fever gets a good player for her and doesn't just give her away. This is where a good GM shows their mettle in negotiations with another team. Do I have confidence in Dunn? 😂

Playing for a bad coach can ruin a certain kind of player. Not everyone can rise above bad coaching (like CC or AB have). Some players need a coach who can build them up and help them develop their talent. Sides is not capable of this. I feel that there is a much better player waiting to blossom inside of Smith. It won't happen with the Fever as long as Cheerleader Sides is the coach. She's getting ruined on the Fever. It's over. If the Fever leadership was smart (which they are not), they would have gotten the best they could have gotten for Smith in a trade. I hope she eventually finds a better situation to play in and prospers there.

I'm not a fan of Cardoso. Look up the game between South Carolina and LSU where Cardoso ran up behind LSU's Flaujae Johnson and pushed her hard from behind. Flaujae landed in a face plant. The refs had to intervene to prevent a brawl.
I think Cardoso is right where she belongs as a teammate of Chennedy Carter.

KM is 1 of the best pure scoring guards in the W ever. She will reach 5,000 points faster than any guard ever (except DT.) you lose KM and this team is starting from scratch.

Sides is a terrible coach to be sure, but I haven't seen anything impressive from Smith. More often than not, when she tries to take it to the rim, she doesn't appear to be smart enough, or team oriented enough, to recognize when she gets double or triple teamed. Instead of kicking the ball back out to the perimeter in those cases, she just keeps plowing ahead to the basket and gets blocked or misses. Once in a while she will make the shot and maybe draw a foul, but damn, she just doesn't play smart at all. She's too slow for a Caitlin Clark led offense too.
