John Lee Hookers trademark one chord blues style can be traced back to his Mississippi roots where he first learned to play guitar and although often described as a simple technique, the rhythm found in his playing is the bedrock by which all things blues, fingerstyle, rock, etc., is based upon.
John Lee Hooker played out of standard tuning, E position, and Spanish tuning, typically Open A, and nearly all his recorded works fall into either category. Breaking this collection into two parts Feldmann walks you through every aspect of Hookers playing style in both Standard and Spanish tuning. You’ll even be treated to live video footage of Hooker performing the tunes taught out of Standard tuning on electric, and more rare, acoustic guitar.
Whether your looking to learn Hookers songs, licks, or playing style you’ll find those elements in spades, plus most importantly you’ll improve your rhythmic technique which will benefit your own playing regardless of genre.
Tunes include: Maudie, Tupelo, MS, I’ll Never Get Out of These Blues Alive, Boom Boom, Boogie Chillen, Hobo Blues, I’m A Crawling King Snake, Bundle Up and Go
You can order the DVD at: stefan-grossma...

The one chord wonder! John Lee Hooker was all about the rhythm. Relentless. A completely original artist. Thanks for the clip at the beginning, just brilliant.

a lot of people dismiss Hooker's guitar work..but few can actually sound like him..Tom is one of them..excellent play through at the end...will be studying this one for a long while..thanks

John Lee Hooker is not easy to play authentically. Just look at all the other TH-cam teachers who can't really do it. They play a version of what they think it sort of sounds like but it's never got the real JLH groove or sound. Tom Feldman is the exception, he's on a whole other level. I've bought four of his courses and they're one of the best investments I ever made!

You really succeeded with this lesson. The basis of what mr Hooker is doing is here and I really enjoy the openness for how to strum and so on. Most guitar players who play with their fingers are difficult to imitate when it comes to technique - but this was good! Thanks!

Boom Boom by John Lee Hooker
    Boom boom boom boom
I'm gonna shoot you right down,
    right offa your feet
    Take you home with me,
    put you in my house
    Boom boom boom boom
    A-haw haw haw haw
    Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
    Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
I love to see you strut,
    up and down the floor
    When you talking to me,
    that baby talk
    I like it like that
    Whoa, yeah!
Talk that talk, walk that walk
    When she walk that walk,
    and talk that talk,
    and whisper in my ear,
tell me that you love me
    I love that talk
    When you talk like that,
    you knocks me out,
    right off of my feet
    Hoo hoo hoo
Talk that talk, and walk that walk

Nice lesson but I'm struggling to work out what your doing after the opening riff as you do two different base runs, you explain one then play another? And it would be nice to know what strings your hitting for those little flourishes in between....I know there's some individual style to add in but I'm a total beginner, just trying my best to copy what you do.

    • @BackyardRambo
      @BackyardRambo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Just concentrate on the the main riffs and use the chugga percussion to keep tempo. When you're comfortable with the main body of the song it will be easier to understand the low parts. There's definitely a feel to it more than an exact notation.

Most people do not know the notes...including the original artist. The goal is to help as many folks as possible and it is more universal to say string/fret.

Does not fully explain strum, and way too fast, also the tablature does not reflect exactly what he plays-this is particularly noticeable in first 6 minutes of lesson, an engaging presenter but just average teacher

    • @PlayCountryBlues
      @PlayCountryBlues 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

TAB is not a running transcript of the entire video. It is taken from the last split screen segment where I play through the song slowly.
