Mrs. Smith-Standish and Mrs. Drysdale pay another visit to the Clampetts, fueling Pearl’s determination to make the family appear like “high society.” Eager to impress, Pearl borrows Margaret’s chauffeur and car for the occasion. However, this leaves Margaret without a ride to the bank, so Elly May and Jethro offer to drive her in their truck. The experience is mortifying for Margaret, who feels humiliated as they rumble through town in the old vehicle. By the time she arrives at the bank, Margaret is so flustered and disheveled that Milburn mistakes her state for intoxication.
When Pearl returns, she is so elaborately dressed and made up that Jed doesn’t recognize her. Determined to elevate the entire family’s appearance, Pearl brings back fancy clothes for everyone and introduces them in their “new look” to Mrs. Smith-Standish. Priscilla struggles to contain her laughter at their attempts to fit into high society. Meanwhile, Mrs. Drysdale continues to endure “historical practices” under Priscilla’s guidance, much to her dismay. The visit culminates in a lively session of mountain music and dancing with the family. Priscilla, aiming to confirm Jed’s prestigious lineage, asks him if his great-grandfather’s name was Ezekiel-a detail that would make them world-famous. To restore peace and normalcy, Jed fibs, denying the connection, ensuring life goes back to its simple, familiar ways.
