    Honestly, the best part of Hershey is standing under bear and in that area between comet, skyrush, and superdooperlooper. hearing all the sounds with bear and screams is euphoric. It will forever be my favorite part of the park, as much as i adore the rides.

    Taylor, as a dad I'll tell you that having kiddie rides spread throughout the park is a very VERY good thing. It's one of the many reasons I think BGW is one of the best parks in the country.
    If you have little kids and they can ride something everywhere in the park it really makes a park day nicer. Otherwise, they get bored and then you have to spend 30-50% of the day in the kiddie area because your kids want to ride rides and don't want to just stand in lines while mom and dad do parent swap for a ride the kids won't get to ride.

    Thanks for pointing out about the kiddie areas. I live not far away, so I've been going to HersheyPark since my kid was very small. I like the fact that if you're only doing the kiddie rides, you're not stuck in one small area of the park, and can experience the whole place. I also like that the coasters have a wide range of intensity, so if you're introducing a child to coasters, the park always has something appropriate for them as they grow. It's a fantastic park for families, in my opinion.

I also am probably one of few people to actually know exactly where to go and where everything is in Hersheypark. I will admit it is confusing. Also the water park is there as that is the space where they had other water attractions at the time so it jsur fit there nicely when it first opened.

    I go to Hersheypark probably way too much so I can explain everything.
    Before the Boardwalk was made there were Roller Soaker, and The river rapids.
    In 2012, they removed the rides, and the rides in Midway America were already there, so Hersheypark decided to add the most of the boardwalk while roller soaker was being removed. And then you were right about the terrain, this is a very good park for terrain, and the greenery is nice. I like to hear people’s opinions about Hersheypark.

    Hershey is a very old park. It grew organically, realky quite a bit, especially since the 70s. Its also land-locked like Kennywood. They put stuff where they have room, or where they can make room. Thats why the waterpark is in the middle. It was a big flat area that used to have a rapids ride there, which they took out to put the wavepool in. Plus, in the old part of the park, the paths go everywhere as that the way old-school parks were done., in a more meandering layout.

    i'd say this is my home park away from home, especially these last few years. I've visited it 3 times between 2018-2019, making it one of my most visited parks. Great coaster collection, and LOTS of them are great coasters to start with. as an intamin fanboy, this park is perfect for me. well, except skyrush, which i've ranted about *plenty* on youtube and reddit. it's not great, but it's not bad. the only things holding it back are the length and restraints. Haven't ridden Candymonium but it looks great imo. I agree about the layout, but with a map, it's just fine. Its layout reminds me of when thoosies are trying to figure out where a park will put its next coaster :p
    also, i don't think the fact that they don't have a kiddie section is a bad thing. picture this: you're a little kid, visiting an amusement park with your family. your family wants to ride the newest thrill coaster, but you either don't want to or aren't big enough. So, your dad stays behind with you. Instead of having to go to a totally different area to find a ride you can go on, you just cross the pathway and boom, there are a bunch of rides perfect for you

I can say without hesitation that this is an extremely accurate and respectful review that highlights both the good and bad about HP. I felt your criticisms were extremely fair, as some rides do have long operation times and the parks layout makes no sense, however you also highlighted some aspects of the park that I feel I didn't even fully appreciate. HP does truly have an amazing selection of rides and food, and I am pretty glad I got the chance to experience them al throughout the years. Great review, keep up the good work!

    I think there's a lot great things about Hersheypark. The kid rides spread is good as it's not all doing non kid rides or kid rides. I like that they're not all chain foods. The coasters are great. I enjoy the layout as it's nice to get some walking in and not just be on ride after ride immediately. But, we're less than an hour away from it, too.

    I grew up in Hershey and my first job was the Chocolate World tour ride you mentioned earlier in the video (looked VERY different back in 2009-13 ie no animatronics, the cows were Gabby, Olympia, and Harmony. To this day, I could recite the beginning of the ride. Oh man do I have stories lol), but the thing I miss the most about HersheyPark was that for a few years, they let you in for free for the last 30 minutes it was open. My friends and I would always go every weekend at 9:30, ride Skyrush twice, and grab kettle korn on the way out. This video brought back some memories!

    I have always adored the coaster collection at Hersheypark. It’s probably my favorite.
    As for the layout lacking a master plan, if you know the history of the park, then you know it grew organically and expanded over 100 years. There was no master plan. I love that about it.
    I agree and have always hated the placement of the waterpark. I wish it would move.
    The spread out kiddie rides has always been something I loved at any park. SFOT does this and I applaud it. Kiddie areas are great but giving families the ability to travel the whole park and have something for everyone nearby anywhere you go is brilliant.

    Very blessed with having this within 2 hours of me. My favorite park. Besides the steep hills, it's so much fun. And my favorite rides barely have long lines. What is funny, is that, I don't recall having food there other than subway and kettle corn and kettle chips.

    To address the water park issue, historically the water section of the park was next to the old entrance and down through the hollow, by the Comet and Super-Dooper-Looper. There were spring fed swimming pools, slides, and one of those skipping flume rides, all along the creek. But in the 70’s, the park got hit by a series of storms, that brought devastating floods to the hollow. The removed the water section, and for a decade or so the park had no dedicated region for wet attractions. When they finally were able to expand, a water park was at the top of everyone’s minds, even though the expansion was at the far side of the park away from the entrance.

    My home park - love hearing it praised so well. Most definitely the best coaster collection out there with Wildcats Revenge added.
    As far as Candylane goes, they’ve made LEAPS and bounds. Up until around the mid 2010’s, they would only be open from Minetown to Music Box Way, and had no coasters open. Was the reason as a kid why I thought coasters couldn’t run in the winter 😂

    Thank you for making a review for Hersheypark! Hershey is my favorite park and I have been going for over a decade now. There are so many awesome park/ride review videos from all around the world, but I never see a lot of Hershey rides in those videos. I absolutely stand by your opinion that Hershey is one of the best parks in the country, if not the world; in my opinion, its unique theming alone warrants a visit. The coasters are second to none as well, almost all of them have an eye-catching moment that you can see from the ground that just makes you want to get on and ride; whether it is Fahrenheit's extreme angles, Storm Runner's take-off, or Candymonium's height (just to name a few), I'm filled with awe and wonder every time I see those coasters in action. I love seeing Hersheypark get these essay type videos!

  • @annawenrich
    @annawenrich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    To your points about the waterpark - that was put in place *after* the coasters were already there. So the spacing and walkways are weird because of that. Hershey only purchased the land near the entrance and towards the Giant Center a few years ago so they were only able to work within the space they had, and Skyrush, Laugh Track, and the drop towers were a few of the last rides they added before the land purchase. They have been sandwiched between the downtown area of Hershey, the mainline railroad tracks, and the major routes and roads with little room to expand until now.

    We went two years ago and I was very impressed!! I definitely agree on it being a bit challenging at times trying to find out how to get to certain rides or areas. I think a simple solution would be for the park to add more signs. Beyond that, their coaster selection was awesome!! Lots of great rides all around for various ages. One point I’d like to say is how Hershey Park gives a free “preview” pass the night before you’re planning to go. If I recall, it’s from 7-close, so just enough time to get a layout of the park and ride a few rides. Definitely an awesome perk!!

    Went to this park for 2 days recently. It was really fun. The first day was ok and I only got 6 rides. The lines were hell and most lines even stretched out of the queue. We booked a Sunday and Monday. So the Sunday lines were explainable. We assumed since Monday was supposed to be rainy and somewhat colder, it would be less crowded, but it seemed like it was worse then the 1st day. Luckily I got the fast pass and the day went so much better. I was able to do the entire park plus the boardwalk. I clocked in like 20 rides. The place is extremely fun. I always loved this place.

    Hersheypark is great. It has a much less corporate feel than Disney. One thing to keep in mind is that it wasn't designed to be a huge theme park from the onset like Disney. It was meant to be a perk for the Hershey employees.

    We discovered Hershey Park in the 90s by sheer dumb luck because my mom always grabbed pamphlets from the hotel lobbies to see what attractions were offered in the area we were in. We were driving down to Florida and decided to stay in Hershey for an extra day to go check out the park and we were pleasantly surprised. I agree with you about the chocolate factory dark ride, it's quite enjoyable.
    We went again in the early 2000s for a long weekend and we stayed for an extra day at the newly-opened water park, which I also really enjoyed. Seems like the park has kept growing since then and we are due for a new visit.

    I’m so glad I got to work here between 2013 to 2017. The layout definitely could’ve been better, but it was always fun to come to work and operate the games. It is mostly just a summer job for high schoolers, so most of my friends have moved on to other jobs. My favorite roller coaster though is lightning racers. Usually fast lines and doesn’t break down that often. Been going back at least twice a year. If you want discount tickets, go to the Hershey Giant Food Store near the park. The customer service counter sells tickets, 45 for adults, I forget how much for kids. It’s always great going for the entire day. Stay later in the evening to get on rides faster as most people are leaving. The only problem with that is traffic sucks getting out, even with their 2 lane roads.

  • @brybryguy6314
    @brybryguy6314 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hersheypark is my home park. Thing about this park when adding more attractions is that the park is pretty condensed now these days. Thankfully the new area of land that was bough where Candymonium is, we can see more expansion of the park with new extreme flat rides and perhaps another coster. The food is good and unique at the park with some name brands and even independent small business owners that contact with the park with their food stalls! East Coast doughnuts for one are amazing and it's a mom and pop bussiness!

    I have always loved Hershey but I used to disagree with the notion that Hershey has one of the greatest coaster line up’s in the world. However. I’ll admit I was very wrong on that especially after my last visit last year. Hersheypark shines with their coaster line up, it truly is one of the best coaster line ups in the world. Right up there with Cedar Point, Magic Mountain, and Great Adventure. Best of all, that’s not even talking about the rest of the park.

    Seeing as Hershey has been my home park my whole life, allow me to offer a fun fact for you Taylor: your theory of "we have this space, let's put in a ride because we can" is true but opposite of what you think. Lightning Racer, the Ferris wheel, and every ride in that isolated back area of the park (aside from Laff Trakk) were all there WAY before the waterpark. Prior to Laff Trakk, the most recent ride to open in that area was Lightning Racer in 2000 and a few flat rides that no longer exist. The water park was a major afterthought that didn't open until 2007 so it was actually "we have this space, let's put in a waterpark because we can!".
    Thank you for reading this edition of "When you grew up in Hershey and had the town/park history drilled into your head since childhood".
    Sincerely,
    A lifelong Hershey native
