- ComicBook got to sit down with the Donut Lord himself James Marsden, along with Sonic's Adopted mom Tika Sumpter, Sonic's best buddy Tails Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Sonic newcomer Krysten Ritter to talk about Sonic leaving one family behind to create a new one of his own...what the future holds for Sonic after Sonic the Hedgehog 3...and maybe even talk some potential returns to the MCU for Jessica Jones and Cycylops!

Great interviewer. Loved the movie; I really appreciate the Sonic movies being kid friendly. A lot of “kid” movies are actually dark and edgy to entertain the adults, forgetting the kids. Instead the Sonic movies keep the amazing effects and acting while delivering a fun and engaging movie for its targeted age group. My kiddos loved it.

While I too definitely appreciate good kid friendly movie, I'll be the first to say that even when I was a kid I also appreciated kids films daring to have their fair share of darker or sadder moments, because those are the moments that challenge you emotionally and make you grow.
@@PikaLink91 And dude... This movie had a Murder-Suicide attempt as a part of the plot and a child death off screen to help serve character motivations. Saying that Sonic ain't Dark is like saying you haven't seen the movie.

That wouldn’t be a good direction for the franchise but unfortunately it seems super possible
I think we kind of established by this point Earth is Sonic's home so why would he randomly go back
No one would be complaining if Sonic and co suddenly went back to their world and most stories primarily took place there and didn’t feature the humans. The only reason anyone is saying otherwise is because right now, it’s pretty obvious that these films won’t go in that direction but instead choose to keep him on Earth, so people are justifying it in response to others criticising this.
And it’s super easy to write a reason for him to choose to leave. For one, he seems to constantly attract danger to the planet and might choose to live where there aren’t many vulnerable humans who can barely fight back. Also just because Earth is Sonics home atm doesn’t mean it has to be his forever home; like Sonic could move out.. yk as people do when they get the chance.
I’m not saying that this will happen but it’s an example of how easy it is to make a script that makes it make sense for Sonic to leave and explore more game-like environments.
They are obviously not keeping him on Earth for the reason of it “not making sense for him to leave”, like come on now

alot of the games take place on earth and even if they didnt there is still earth-like environments
also it would be an all cgi film which would be incredibly expensive

Sega and Paramount at least can create their own storyline eventhough Paramount have to copy 60% from the Sega video game story.

@Ben10fan001 yeah it has spoilers, but not TOO major ones. And watch put, people are blatantly leaking the post credits scene and everything in the movie in the thumbnail. So I would avoid youtube until whatever day you watch the movie

My gawd, more than half of these interviews will always ask about Jessica Jones when her character in the sonic movie is barely relevant and important to the story.

@JJprois1 Gerald definitely could have had a smaller and more dark role like in the games and that would allow for screen time for Rouge

It’s really weird they’re running with this “parents” thing when Sonic and Tom were BUDDIES in the first movie. He coulda just been a good friend. Where’s this mom and dad thing coming from? lol
That said, it’s interesting to think these 2 will always be “Sonic’s mom and dad” which might feel weird years later.
Like the actors literally adopted the iconic gaming mascot. LOL
On the second sonic it was like they were Sonic's parent's maybe l am wrong to think this and they they were just loving them as friends when they said they were family and l have seen tom treat sonic like a son cause sonic is young in the first two sonic films don't know about the 3rd not seen it yet maybe it was joke's when rom and his partner in the films were being like his mum and das but it did not seem like that to me maybe tom was being like a dad and friend to sonic

Again, in the first movie they were supposed to be just friends, then they suddenly pushed this "parent" thing which was suuuuper awkward.
Funny thing is, in the third movie they don't really act like parents anymore at least not noticeably. But they act like they are his parents. idk. Whatever. The movies are still good. lol
@@Axxidous They didn't "push" anything, it was a natural progression of things. At first Tom and Sonic became friends, and then Sonic moved in with them. Tom and Maddy don't have children of their own, and Sonic is still a child, so it was natural that this "friendly" relationship developed and became parental. Their dynamic became completely familial after he moved in with them. I dare say it was supposed to be familial from the beginning - Sonic would peek into Tom and Maddy's family nights and want to be a part. It just got better expressed after Sonic officially moved in with them. And to me it's really sweet, I don't see what you have against that. What exactly bothers you? It gives depth to Sonic's character. Personally, I hope to see them as Sonic's parents throughout the movies. It's a shame there are people who criticize everything instead of seeing the benefits of it.

That's NOT a natural progression. They did not have a father-son dynamic in the first movie at all. In the first movie's climax when Tom is scolding Robotnik he says "That little alien knew more about being human than you ever will. His name was Sonic. This was his home. And he was my friend."
If the parent thing was a natural progression, it shoulda been in that movie and shoulda lead him to say "And I'm his dad!" But as the movie is, that would sound weird because that's not the progression they were going for.
And how many times are we gonna say "And Sonic is still a child"?
Dude has turned super twice, broken into a governemtn building, saved a town, thought he murdered someone once only to find out they're still alive, and protected the planet with super powers in space. He's already teamed up with Tails who's actually much younger, and Knuckles who sounds like he's 60, and met Shadow. I think it's time to stop infantalizing the characters for crying out loud. We're past the SA2 arc. Let it be. LOL
The natural progression is probably that Tom and Maddie will actually have a kid and Sonic and Co will start adventuring on their own. I mean we're about to get a Sonic CD/Sonic Heroes arc.
@@Axxidous Yes, that *would* be awkward if you're an adult, but Sonic is definitely a kid in the first movie. He refers to himself as a kid, and is called a kid and a child by others. Tom is a grown man, and their relationship was only supposed to last until Sonic left Earth. Sonic spent a decade alone watching from afar as people and other children lived their lives. He had no friends, no family, no anything. There were plenty of voids to fill, including parental roles after he lost Longclaw so early in his life
By the end of the first movie, when they move all Sonic's stuff from his cave to their attic, the final shot of them sitting on his racecar bed is the beginning of a family dynamic with the three of them, and Tails and Knuckles later fill in the "friends" role before developing into something closer to brothers
