    There's no such thing as being too authentic. As an Italian living in Italy I truly appreciate your work and totally get that you're doing this out of love for our country. And yes, indeed we have a problem with Italy being too romanticized by potential visitors. You're on the right track.

    Yes, I visited Palermo last year and spent 2 weeks exploring Sicily. I was charmed by Palermo. What I enjoyed the most was the hike up to the cave sanctuary of their patron saint Santa Rosalia, which was very moving. It also gave me a break from the hustle and hustle of the city. Coming from America, I can tell you that pretty much any US city you can find areas that raise all kind of concerns. I think when you travel somewhere, you need to view yourself as a guest rather than a consumer. A place is not there to cater to your expectations. It is there for you to ask questions and learn from and hopefully grow as an individual because you gained a new perspective. If there's something you don't understand, ask questions from locals to learn what's behind the reality rather than making assumptions. I don't know if I'll visit Palermo again, but its vibrant energy keeps visiting me in my heart ❤

    Nobody should avoid visiting Palermo. It is an amazing city and a great experience. People should form their own opinions and not be disillusioned by a video. 😊

    Would you say Palermo feels like a much smaller (and a little rougher) Barcelona? That's always been my impression. Low-rise city blocks, piazzas, shops, beach, similar/worse social issues etc. What would you say is the cleanest/safest city in Sicily?

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve never been to Barcelona so I can’t really say. That said though, there are some lovely towns and cities across all of Sicily. I particularly loved Ragusa and Modica from my travels last Summer.

    We loved Palermo, it’s not polished or made up of fake tourist traps ( well as much as say Rome or Florence )
    We cannot wait to return, Sicilian people have a welcoming vibe 🇮🇹

    People don't get that both Palermo and Naples are big metropolitan cities in the very poor South of Italy They can't hide certain social and management problems the same way small Southern towns like Taormina, Sorrento or Capri do. They should be understood, not looked down on. After all they are the capitals of those same regions you visit when you go to those fancy out-out-town small towns.

    Your report is true and honest. But please with all respect, I don’t think that the problems you list apply only to Palermo or Italy. I was robbed of my stuff in Narbonne a town of France for instance. Few people could talk with me in English and because of less visitors there was less rubbish. Apart from rubbish, misinformation and disinformation that you might experience also in Rome, have you experienced at least one thing « specifically » about Palermo?

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      By no means did I say that these problems were exclusive to Palermo. I come from a city - London - with one of if not the highest knife crime rate in the world. I’m so sorry to hear of your experience in France - it must have been really scary and stressful all at the same time. This video is a follow up to a video that I did talking about the reality of Palermo - ie, the crime, rubbish, crowds, lack of organization, etc. I’m not saying these problems don’t exist anywhere else. I’m simply educating people on what to expect when they come to Palermo, so that they actually have a much better experience with their eyes open than to come here, complain and then never return.

      @@MsBritaly Hello, I appreciate your answer as well as your effort to evolve Italy’s perception from the literary based, romantic look to a more up-to-date, « positivistic » shall we say, perspective. In either case, it’s good not to hide the evident problems that I think any town and any land is characterised by. In the case of Italian southern cities, I may add just for the sake of rightful information, that there is a “softer” attention to dirt in the streets, which is a mix of the width of streets (many of them are very narrow and rubbish collecting vehicles are not able to enter) and the minor care of public space versus the private one.
      Your information effort well goes along with the one of many Italians who would be overjoyed if their country was represented not only as the common “pizza, mandolin, luxury car” bias. As an Italian-British citizen living in the south, am going to watch the previous part, which I hadn’t. Best wishes!

    The voice shows embarrassment. As if you were ashamed of what you said. Certainly your remarks produced unintended effects. For example, in one of the comments I read that “there is nothing to see in Palermo.”
    Meanwhile on the other island, the one you are from, it seems that stabbings have entered local folklore. Nothing to worry about: the theft of a few FIATs is much worse. The world is truly imperfect. Next time, we'll make it out of whipped cream.
    However, to talk about the whole of Italy, you would have to have lived everywhere, and I don't see that you have, as you yourself admit.

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s my normal voice but maybe you haven’t seen any of my other videos to know that. Also I wouldn’t pay much attention to those comments about nothing to see here - there’s plenty to see and do - only those that don’t want to see it, don’t notice it. As for my ‘island’ - it’s far from perfect indeed. Sending you much needed love and light.

    I am Italian from the north of Italy and therefore out of the dispute but there are a couple of things I would like to tell you. There is no doubt that Italy is not a perfect country. It is you foreign TH-camrs who describe Italy as a wonderland and therefore the responsibility is yours as it is when you criticize us heavily because it is easier to attract attention by speaking badly of Italy when you are looking for "Likes" as in your case. My profession led me around the world for over 40 years so allow me a little advice : when you have to talk about other people , mentalities and nations make sure to do it with a bit of common sense and diplomacy .

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I considered not publishing this because it is a comment which sadly is based on one video and doesn’t understand the context of my channel.
      I have over 400 videos on my channel all of which show respect and consideration for this country which I call my home. I share the reality because I want to educate those people who often believe the media hype and social media content about Italy and then later complain that it doesn’t match their expectations.
      Thank you for sharing your ‘advice’ - may I share some of my own - watch some of my content first and then pass judgement. Love and light.

      It’s a shame there is this divide. Yes, there is a different mindset maybe but the people here are warm hearted and hospitable. You get people here that have no respect for their land in the same way those people exist across all of Italy.

    I've visited Palermo and Catania with my husband this year and we were aware from your videos and other videos about the dirt etc. but seeing it live we were shocked. This was by far the worst vacation we went on. Not only because of the dirt, but because there is honestly nothing to see in our opinions. Maybe it's different when travelling with a car. but we hadn't have the privilege to rent one. I would rather visit Rome a second time or any other place lol.

      Teatro Massimo, the Cathedral, Quattro Canti, Monreale, Foro Italico, Palazzo dei Normanni, Palazzina Cinese, Monte Pellegrino, Mondello and I could keep going (same when it comes to Catania). Sicily is a beautiful region, rich with history, culture and natural beauties. I was born in Palermo and as of now I still live there, so I understand that it's dirty especially outside the city centre, that public transportation sucks and lots more. But behind all the flaws is a place which is really worth visiting, with great food and lovely people. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, and it's valid. But there are also a lot of people that come here and love it.

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience. I am surprised that you couldn’t find anything to see or do in Palermo - there are plenty of things in the city centre alone that don’t require the use of a car. Never mind this city clearly isn’t for you and that’s totally ok!

      The residential area of Palermo is at the moment surely dirty, but the historical ancient part of the City is clean enough. However, to say that there is nothing to see in Palermo is just not credible. Probably the whole of Northern Europe possesses about one tenth of the architectural and naturalistic landmarks and attractions that Palermo has, not to mention of course the whole of Sicily or Italy.
