    Thanks Mark. Another very useful video. Have you tried batch processing with DXO raw 4. I would be interested to know if the software process individual images in a batch with differing ISO levels. Or, if the batch should contain images that are all at the same ISO?

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Garnet, thanks for watching and for the comment. I haven’t tried any batch processing yet, because of the varying ISO in different images. It would be great to be able to batch process by applying a value per ISO’s as default and then run the batch. For now if I do batch a couple images, they need to have the same settings and for that reason the ISO would need to be the same.

    I'm struggling to agree with you at 7:42 looking at both images I can only say on this particular image the Lightroom Denoise is looking better. I use both and find they have there own place.

    I agree with your findings but for lower ISO, less noisy raws, ACR/Lightroom does a very good job of preserving detail. Thanks for uploading.

    I absolutely love DXO PureRaw 4. Thanks for recommending it Mark. My images are so much sharper and the noise is so much better. Especially because I’m shooting on a crop sensor body.

    DXO PureRaw 4 just saved my closest encounter shots of a Marsh Harrier 128,000 & then 10,000 ISO . These days getting close and the sharpness of your lens counts the most no longer ruined by high ISO . I agree with your analysis 👍

    As you know us Saffers pay dear for software, but this one was worth it, luckily I got the 20% discount on offer last month, your video is a good workflow, I don’t open from an editor, but drag files from Adobe Bridge directly, for quicker processing, I shut down every other Application, especially the memory hogs like Adobe, further adjustments are done in my editor depending on the photograph.
    It’s a definite tool to have in modern Auto iso cameras.

      Thanks for the question. As far as I know ( I haven’t ever used Fuji) I think DxO has issues with the Fuji Raw files and is not supported. But I stand to be corrected on this one. I’ll do some more digging about the compatibility.

    One area where I've had a problems is with stacking 20+ stacked images. The lens correction can create artifact/halos when images stacked. As for the subscription issue, one needs to purchase each upgrade so it's not really a buy once thing.

    You mentioned about LR Denoise taking forever - I had this problem (up to 18 minutes for some images!) and it is a hardware issue. Adobe is moving more and more to using the memory on the graphics card for doing the AI/Denoise processing. So if you have an integrated graphics card the LR is competing with all the other functions to run the program. Similarly, older graphics cards (before 2013) work as memory in isolation, whereas newer graphics cards swap their memory with the main RAM on the computer. The answer is to upgrade your graphics card (preferably 8GB) AND make sure you have at least 8GB RAN on your computer. Buying DxO will be much cheaper!

    • @MarkDumbleton
      @MarkDumbleton  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. I now know a little bit more about why performance can be slow in LR with AI. DXO definitely a cheaper option.

    I was a big fan and first customer of DxO, but I really hate their update policy, which makes it expensive to stay updated (same for other DxO products). This said, I still believe it has a slight edge over the LR AI

    The first few times I used PR4 I was sure it used black magic. Makes using ISO 12800 on the OM-1 a breeze and of course as you show here 25600 on FF is now quite usable. Unfortunately its quite resource intensive and many folks who haven't had to use much of a GPU will find their machines lacking. My previous PC had a 2060 with 6gb of VRAM. 20MB OM-1 files took about 1.5 min with PR3. Using PR4 they took 7.5 min. $2,500 of new PC later, with a Nvidia RTX 4000 SFF card my OM-1 files now take just a few seconds.

    Thanks for the video. I love DxO PureRAW 4. The big advantage is the GPU code in DeepPRIME XD2 and the perfect batch capability. For nighttime time-lapse shots with around 3600 RAW photos (Sony a6700, 26 MP), it took around 3 hours on an Intel 13900K + 3080TI. When loading 3600 files into PureRAW 4, the performance of a single core on the CPU is critical, while performing the batch operation requires maximum GPU performance.

    The preview of DXO Pureraw has NOTHING to do with the final image. It is just an approximation to give you an idea of what it will do. Not an actual result. The final images are so much better that it is laughable how far of these approximations are. Annoying that Pureraw 4 still defaults to the older models on Fuji sensors, but it is still the best raw processor around.
