Okay, so last year, I discovered BAND-MAID. They blew me away and I was addicted for literal MONTHS. Such incredible skill and talent all packed into one of the best rock bands ever. They do not have a single bad song. I've always had an appreciation for catchy anime music, but I don't really like anime. That being said, the melodies and vocal hooks are just very well done most of the time and make me incredibly happy. I feel like BAND-MAID has a similar style and they opened up my genre palate a bit too. So this year, I fell in love with Dreamcatcher. I have very little exposure to K-Pop and knowledge of it. I mainly listen to a lot of metal and alternative rock, and I never thought I'd dive into and be so enthralled by something like this because most K-Pop always seemed way too childish to me, especially the male K-Pop, which I just can't take seriously at all. For context, I'm a 27-year-old male if that makes sense. I knew of the name Dreamcatcher and that they were some kind of K-Pop girl group for a long time (similar to how I knew of BAND-MAID, but never listened to them), but didn't think much of it until I decided to just give them a go by watching a reaction channel react to them like a few days ago (that's how I discover new things a lot, haha). Anyway, I was very interested in their style and how they used rock with the pop to make cool music. It went beyond that though. I was absolutely amazed by how talented the girls were at singing and dancing. The choreography is absolutely brilliant and incredibly fun to watch. Their music videos are also by far the most well made and beautiful videos I've ever seen. The scenes, motifs, themes, artistic direction, costumes and outfits, etc. are mesmerizing and beautiful. The production value is off the charts. No heavy metal or rock group I've listened to has made a video that looks anywhere near as good. I do want to say that I'm not a fan of rap at all and at first, the rap in some sections was throwing me off a bit, but after continued listens, it's kind of grown on me, perhaps because 1) Dami's voice is pretty unique 2) It's not in English most of the time, which gives its cadence a unique element that is always unexpected to my ears 3) It's never long-winded or overstays its welcome. It's like peppered in just the right amount for me to like it. Also, and this goes without saying, but the girls are drop-dead gorgeous too, which makes watching them dance and sing all the more better. They are all queens. I can say with certainty that I'm an InSomnia now. These beautiful ladies caught my dreams and I don't want to wake up. Yoohyeon, SuA, and Handong are my favorites.
