If you noticed something about Hohehneim, it's that he still acts like a normal human. He still eats, rests, and usually only uses normal non-stone-enhanced alchemy (you can always tell the difference by the alchemical sparks and whether they are blue or red). The only times Hohenheim ever actually uses his philosopher's stone is for big important things, such as trapping Pride or fighting Father. This is because he is friends/allies with every single soul within his stone, and he refuses to use their energy without a good cause. He is fully capable of just not eating or even walking through the desert without being affected, but he actively chooses NOT to use his stone unless absolutely necessary because doing so would require he draw life energy from the stone and use up the souls of his friends. Like Edward and Alphonse, Hohenheim does not take the souls trapped within the stone for granted, he still treats them as human beings whose lives deserve respect. Also like Alphonse, Hohenheim is letting the souls within him fight back against the one that caused all their pain by using their energy usually only to fight against Father and co. If you listen to Hohenheim's dialogue when he heals Izumi many episodes back, it almost sounds like he's actually talking to himself rather than Izumi. It's theorized that Hohenheim is actually speaking to some of the medical doctors within his stone for advice, then is apologizing to the soul(s) whose life energy is going to be used up in order to heal her (given his relationship with the souls, this was most likely a volunteer).
What I find crazy about Hohenheim's alchemy is that he never needs to move for it. Other characters need to use a philosopher's stone for instant transmutation, but he can do it even without relying on his.
Hohenheim even suffers from presbyopia, which means that he does not want to use this energy to resist the aging process of certain body functions (although he still does not age overall, and there may be some energy calls that he cannot control).
The reason why Roy didn't use his fire in that underground fight with the to-be-Bradleys is because his alchemy is not about the fire itself but more about manipulating the atmosphere. He transmuted the gas to suit his needs (creating a flammable gas "path" towards his target) and create the spark with his ignition gloves (that's why he becomes useless once the gloves are wet, its harder to create a spark that way) That's why it's way harder to use his alchemy to a target that moves very fast
@@ilsrzz135 no, i forgot to add the last sentence LMAO. I like the question of why Truth is seen when people commit the taboo of human transmutation. Truth is like a mirror reminding people who overstep who and what they really are when they play God. To some extent, their punishments are self-inflicted but there's always a point behind them, however harsh they may seem.
It's their punishment, but it's also _the closest thing to what they requested_ When you try to revive the dead by alchemy, what are you actually trying to do? Every alchemist we see collects the materials to make a body and seems to expect the soul to come from outside, but dead souls dissipate and get reincorporated into the flow, they cease to be. The soul you requested could not be found, but all the knowledge to reconstruct it sits on the other side of that gate, as part the collected "all" or "god" that lives there. I think that's part of why Ed and Al both got pulled out when they started to see their mom on the other side of the gate - that's the information they paid for - and also why their tolls were so different - they didn't start with the same knowledge going in, so the amount of prerequisite knowledge they needed to see before "hey wait that's mom there she is" was different too, and the toll is equivalent to the knowledge gained.

You lose more depending on how much of the truth you see, Edward only saw a portion and so he only lost his leg...Alphonse saw all of the truth and so he lost his whole body. Ed gave up his arm to bring his brother's soul back, which was human transmutation again and so he saw a little more.
I assume you have been told already but you have to watch the bloopers after the show. It's jokes and mistakes made by the voice actors during recording.
Al lost his whole body due to equivalent exchange. To equal trishas body mass equivalent it wasnt just Al it was Al + Ed's leg to = trishas body. That is what they sacrificed. It was a shame it was Al but im sure it could have been either or, if they tried to bring back someone bigger or more people theyd likely have lost more of there body. Ed then sacrificed his arm to bring Al's soul back and bond it to the armour.
This is false. The mass of Trisha's body was paid for by the various chemicals in the human body that they gathered. Al's body and Ed's leg were paid as the toll for the glimpse of ultimate truth behind the portal after the transmutation rebounded since there's no sacrifice that can return a totally dead soul like Trisha's. It was in no way payment for physical mass, which the brothers painstakingly calculated and provided already.
the toll of opening portal of truth is something that you desired when opening it izumi desired her kid so it took away her womb, ed desired his mother his family so it took his only family al
Not entirely. Because human body transmutation cannot succeed at all, all the performer can obtain is knowledge, and the price paid is to buy that knowledge. The price comes from the performer himself and does not involve others. IZUMI longed to get her child back, so "Truth" made her body unable to have children again instead of losing her husband. ED longed for strength and independence, so he lost the leg that allowed him to stand. (And in exchange for AL, he gave his most important right hand) AL longed to feel his mother's warmth again, so he lost his body that could feel warmth. ED's desire is not obvious in the show, but he has obviously always wanted to surpass or deny his father's status in some aspects.
