For the very first time, Mixmag Live departed the UK and arrived in the United States. Deservingly, New York City was the first to host Mixmag Live abroad.
Brooklyn's premier nightclub Output hosted Mixmag Live's debut in North America, which honored a league of pioneers not only in techno, but also in music technology.
RICHIE HAWTIN led the charge at Mixmag Live, presenting his MODEL 1 PLAYdifferently mixer alongside a strong showing of talents including house artist Louie Vega, MODEL 1 ambassador Matador and rising star Julia Govor. The party's was celebration of the December Tech Issue which features Hawtin, Matador, Nicole Moudaber, Hito, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Loco Dice, Paco Osuna and Fabio Florido.
Bronx native and Grammy winner LOUIE VEGA's illustrious career spans over three decades and has awarded him the title as a "godfather of global dance music". Known for his mastery of the rotary mixer, Vega's addition to the celebration of MODEL 1 all the more special of an appearance.
Together, the league arrives as ambassadors of MODEL 1 and masters of their craft. It's set to be a special night in Brooklyn for this Mixmag Live celebration of all things music and technology with some of the underground's finest.

The last time I heard it this DEEP I was watching Dj Marques Wyatt Live at Rich's Night club in San Diego. Louie Notorious Vega was stepped up an d played The original Lets Get Jazzy and it was Ovah after that....And sadly that was the last time I ever saw Louie and Marques in San Diego. Please come back and give me life.

If you are a dancer at heart and you love good dance music, I swear, you would probably not even be looking at the dj booth because you would be too busy dancing! I know, because I've heard Louie get down live, and bring the heat!Production wise, I mean, his latest effort is off the chain! The brother has a grammy and is being nominated for another this year. How many Soulful House djs (or djs period) can boast that?I say this because Louie is practically "carrying" the whole soulful house genre! Simple, you can't have modern day House without Louie Vega!

I have been following Louie for over 25 years from the small clubs in the lower east side of NYC. He has always bought the best of the house music and made you dance until you were sore the next day. His talent is one that many respect and know that he will always have a love for the music. Never under estimate the talent this man has.

**NEWSFLASH** Louie Vega is one of the most respected looked up to old-school DJ that made a name for himself in the 90's. Back then when crates of vinyl defined what a TRUE DJ really was. ANYONE and I mean ANYONE that has or has had any sort of significant ownership in nightlife, professionally work in it or even just follows underground trendsetters for joy....all knows Louie Vega is godlike respected.
I am a DJ Gloria from Berlin in Germany and I love his Rec. and I played with him in the Tresor Club in 2000 and now I must ask a question…?… is he still playing??? I hear nothing more over him is he still a life ??? OKAY i just saw him perform live 2/8/19 at the Smart Bar/Metro Club in chicago. OMG he so into the crowd and plays the music accordingly it seemed liked. i wont be able to talk for a week cause i was screaming so loud. he spun for 6 hours straight high energy house music and i danced for 6 hours. i am typing this from my front room sofa but my knees are still in the bed resting. lol. lol

I have had the good fortune of seeing Louie in Rome, NYC and LA. Even hung out with him in the 90s. Probably the best live vinyl mixer I have ever seen on the decks. even to this date, he has not lost a beat!

@Stephen Stephens Yes but it doesn't necessarily change the man's point as Louis was spinning vinyl at Studio 54 before most of his present day fans were even in nappies.

George Hernandez .... first off I would have to admit i don't know as much about Junior as I probably should (I will do my research to radicate that knowledge gap) but I do know enough that although he was great, he's not in the class of Louie. Vega has taken every aspect of dj/producing to a new level of quality...he has zero weaknessess. Junior is Dr. J and Louie is Michael Jordan!

I had the pleasure of seeing him in Chicago at Smartbar! He did an all night set and it was off the chain! The place was packed. The dancefloor was full. The vibe was beautiful. I'm an upcoming DJ but still and House Head and a huge fan.
Whenever Louis spins outside of NYC,he brings the whole arsenal with him,Neve had a bad night with Louie in over 30 years,he consistently BRINGS it.🙌🏽😎

+Paul Filis - Probably because back in the day Vega used to be an absolutely amazing DJ and then circa 2001 everything became bongo bongo bongo bongo bongo bongo and then lately he just defaults to classics all the time.
The last amazing set I saw him do was back in 2001...a long time ago. This is what happens when you're in the game too long. Vega was massively talented with an incredible discography who's now in his 50's and was just in the game too long. There are now just so many DJ's I'd rather see than him.
Agreed bro. And also he just has not improved since the late 90's. The over use of the isolator, the touching of every knob on the mixer every second even though he's not doing anything, the unnecessary use of 4 cdj's all the time( I can't recall him ever mixing 3 tracks at the same time unless one cdj is playing an accapella that doesn't need to be on melody) and the fact that he hasn't really progressed is why in my opinion he has fallen off. But if you just want to listen to a set of some good house music then you can never go wrong with listening to a Vega mix.
+Will Garcia - Totally agree with you Will. A lot of what they do is unnecessary. Vega and Gonzalez just haven't moved on in a way a lot of other DJ's have and neither have their productions unfortunately. From 1990 to about 1998, they were the best house producers in the world. The only House producer who has a similar and brilliant, extended discography is Kerri Chandler.
If you want to see DJs who are incredible on CDJ's then look no further than Karizma, Terence Parker, DJ EZ etc.Or just people who play great deep house like Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Osunlade, Henrik Schwarz, DJ Spen, Glenn Underground, DJ Spen, Disclosure, Detroit Swindle, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Soundstream, Jeremy Underground, Joris Voorn etc. There are so many people I'd rather see than Vega and Gonzalez now.
On the production front, I'd say the producer that's really excited me in the last 5 years is Lone and one of the most consistent deep house labels is Local Talk Records (DJ Steaw, HNNY, Fulbert, Kyodai, Atjazz etc).
Unfortunately, MAW are just nowhere for me now. I take very little notice of what they get up to which is sad considering how amazing I used to think they were.

I'll agree that this set is exceptional but Vega as a DJ can be a bit of a mixed bag. When he's great, he's truly, truly incredible. His sets between 1995-2001 were some of the best I've ever seen and I'll always be grateful for that. However, when he has an off day, he can be excruciatingly dull to watch. Always technically good but he can be maddening to support. He went through an Afro & Latin House phase between 2001-2006 and was largely pretty dull during that period. Saw many very average sets from him at Southport etc at the time.
As a producer, his best days are behind him but then again, him and Dope were just absolutely fucking ridiculous between 1990-2000. Just so incredibly consistent in everything they did. Amazingly talented.
I feel Kerri Chandler has been overall more consistent as a DJ and as a producer in the last 20 years. Seen Chandler play a couple of dozen times and he's been outstanding each time. As a producer, he's just been amazing for the last 30 years.
Vega's star shone incredibly brightly for a long time but apart from a few tracks that capture the magic of 1990-2000 (I Choose You, Just The Way I Like It etc), he's not at the peak of his abilities anymore. Sill generally very good and occasionally brilliant though.

I can't believe Cielo and Output no longer exist. My first 2 House music experiences. Kevin Hedge at Cielo on a Wednesday night and Danny Krivitz all day set at Output that following Saturday. The Music Gods took great care of me that week in NYC.

No One Does it better than NYC DJ's .... Larry Levan , Shep Pettibone, Kerri Chandler, Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera ( Latin Rascals), Don Matter aka Junior Vasquez and last and should be on top of this list, Frankie Knuckles. Although he became famous in Chicago spinning House ( aka Warehouse Music) let's not forget he came out of the Bronx. Long Live the Real House Music, sound of NYC.

I love watching a Master At Work. Always seamless mixing. 1:00:00 I was living in NYC that night when the lights went out. Gorgeous remix of this classic. I know this was on Atlantic, but it's pure Salsoul. My favorite label back then. Salsoul and Philly Int'l. Thank the disco gods that Masters like Louie are keeping these classics alive.

Wow! this set took me on a journey! It got better and better as the tracks kept playing. GOD i love House music. Music for the SOUL. Those that cannot understand that have never had it touch you. Always liked my NYC dj's but Louie is special. A cut above the rest in my book. So smooth in his blending, vocals, soulful grooves, base drops.... what more can you ask for ;)
